Description

A well-established, large campground (2 hectares?) run by a Canadian expat. Cabañas available as well. The bathroom/showers are great, with good water pressure and the (daily cleaned) toilets have seats and paper.

A good stopping point between Puerto Escondido/Zipolite and San Cristobal de las Casas.

Ten-minute walk to the beach and town, which offers basic necessities (groceries, beer, restaurants). This place is also excellent if you are into birdwatching: canoe to navigate the mangrove available.

Joe (or Jose) the owner, is super friendly.
Bring cash….. no ATMs or banks to get cash and all the places here only accept cash

Great camp spot to stop in on. Awesome water pressure. Close to beach. Turtle releasing close buy. Joe (owner) will have a few beers with you and tell you his stories. Fire BBQs available. Can hang your own hammocks / pitch own tents or rent a dorm. Camp site is filled with palm trees.

Report Check-In

I'm reposting as I posted on the wrong campsite.
very difficult to get to with a large rig due to low hanging wires, my husband climbed on our RV to move wires out the way
water and electric at sites, dump station available
beautiful pool for the grandkids, it's just a plunge pool but it was great to cool off and always clean
Jose wanted 450 pesos but we got it for 350 each, we are a 36 ft RV and a sprinter van and they were the same price, we don't have ac so we weren't drawing an excessive amount of electric
very small town, had to drive 30 minutes to do laundry

Paramos aquí dos días antes de cruzar la frontera hacia Guatemala. Jose y su mujer fueron muy amables. El camping es un lugar cómodo y tranquilo con baños y duchas muy limpios. Muy cerca de la playa y el pueblo. Recomendable.

We stopped here two days before crossing the border into Guatemala. Jose and his wife were very kind. The campsite is a comfortable and quiet place with very clean bathrooms and showers. Very close to the beach and the town. Highly recommended.

Report Check-In

We enjoyed our stop here! Joe’s place is very good: memorable shower, clean bathrooms, beautiful trees around the shady, grassy parking spots, a quick walk to the beach. We saw three big lizards which we think were iguanas so that was fun. On Sunday we joined many families on the soft sand beach. On Monday we had the whole beach to ourselves. The waves were big and we enjoyed body surfing them. There were no ants, but there were some mosquitoes. Buy some mangos on the road down - they are delicious!

Report Check-In

Nice site, full hookups 20 amp.
We are driving a big rig, 36 footer class a, there are 2 maybe 3 lots for a rig our size.
Wires are low for class a's on the side streets, I recommend driving to the main intersection, taking a left, and taking the left after his sign. Jose's will be on your right, big gate entrance probably a 2/3 point turn with a class a motorhome.

Report Check-In

Good place to stop. 5 minutes walk from the beach. All the services. 350 pesos with electricity. The bathrooms and showers are clean.

Buen sitio para parar. a 5 minutos andando de la playa. Todos los servicios. 350 pesos con electricidad. los baños y las duchas estan limpios.

Report Check-In

So sad to have this bad feeling with the Owner. We are a Nice family and try to be honest and great with him. But we was rude with us and ask us 300 pesos for the night. We told him we need nothing but because we are with children it is more expensive. It doesn’t change anything. With electricity This is 350 pesos. We don’t recomend because it is far from the Beach and lots of mosquitos

Report Check-In

Beautiful and shady place with all the comfort but… ants and mosquitos are terrible overthere.

Report Check-In

Good stop over between Huatulco and Tapachula before crossing into Guatemala. Large well-kept gated grounds with large trees and cabanas sprinkled throughout. Jose wasn’t as grumpy to us as other reviews suggested he might be, and his dog Snoopy was a nice pal for our dog Hector. 250p total without electricity, 300 pesos with. Bathrooms were very clean and functional considering it’s the jungle, showers cold but great pressure and refreshing. Security lights throughout but with switches so we could turn them off for sleep. Wi-Fi near the house is decent. Only campers here- that’s been the case almost everywhere as we are the crazy ones doing our trek in the off season!

Report Check-In

Arrived about 5pm. Paid $250 as we didn’t need power or water. Showers were clean had good flow but no hot water which was ok for us as 38C heat. Loos we’re clean and had paper. Neither had power to lights. Jose was at his house by the gate when we arrived - interesting character and not one that we warmed to. Quite rude really. But the place felt safe and the beach made up for him.

Report Check-In

Great place to camp. Jose and the guys running the place are very nice. You have all you need; running water, clean toilets & showers, electricity and pretty good WiFi. It is pretty close to the town with a few shops to get what you need

The only drawback for us ( and might be that we were just unlucky on the spot we chose) was that there were TONS of ants.

Note: aside from one really amazing Italian restaurant the town is pretty depressing…

Report Check-In

Great place to stay, with full hook up and grounding and correct polarity on the electrical which is great!!!! No availability to get cash on town and most places only except cash.

Report Check-In

Great, quiet place as described. 300 MXN for 2 in a Van with electricity. Highly recommended: take a tour with canoe through the mangroves, you can rent the boat for 100 and start directly from campsite.

Report Check-In

Site ultra sympa. Calme. Beau. Grand. De belles rencontres ! Plages animées avec beaucoup de 4 roues.

Report Check-In

Great place. Amenities as others have listed. Lots of shade, super clean bathrooms and quiet. Came for one night but ended up staying for three. Joe (Jose) is the man!

Report Check-In

Met with Jose’s sister and Jose himself.
1 bike and 2pp + 1 puppy = 200pesos.
Free electricity on site.
Shower really good.

Its holiday season so pretty full but lot of spots so don’t worry.

Report Check-In

Great place! Only campsite so far in Mexico and Guatemala that is worth the money. Clean, working toilets and great showers. Quiet. Wifi near the reception and pool. Lots of space and shade. Brick bbq s at the sites and electricity . Big rigs can fit too. There are some markets in town where you can buy food.

Report Check-In

Jose has it all! For campers there is the works from full hook-ups to tenting. All sites are spacious.
Those needing a bed can choose from fully serviced two bed cottages, to one bed unserviced cottages or dorms.
Jose's has been the travelers mainstay for years for good reasons.
Come enjoy

Report Check-In

We came in for one night, stayed three. Generous sites (you will not be bothered by other guests), power and lots of shade by mango and cashew trees. The closer you are to the mangrove, the more (biting) insects. Ample water pressure (at natural temperature) on both tap and showers.

We agreed to MXN 200 plus MXN 50 for electricity for the first night and kept paying that price for the next two nights.

Report Check-In

definitely open. so many shady spots to choose from. lots of ants though. we only came for 2 nights but ended up staying for 4 since it was so quiet and relaxing. power, and water at all of the sites we looked at. the bathroom/shower building looks newly constructed and very clean. the whole grounds are clean. best "cold" shower I've had this whole trip. lots of birding for sure. and don't miss the mangrove area out back. they offer a canoe for you to take, but it's extremely heavy.

Report Check-In

This place was only closed during the beginning of covid. It’s open. We stayed two nights here.
There are many areas to camp and fireplaces. The best camping we found for quite a while. There seems to be electric and water for hookups.

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

We arrived to stay here for the night and ended up staying an extra night. The owner Jose is extremely friendly and supper nice.. the beach it’s just around the corner one of the nicest beaches I have seen… it’s very quiet and safe.. I highly recommend this place..they offer water, electricity, wifi. Not expensive at all..

Report Check-In

Wonderful family-run campground 5 minutes walking from the beach. Charged me $200p for one night camping in my truck. Only one here, but it’s May. Haven’t tried the WiFi yet but they offered it without me asking. Two different kinds of mangos are dropping around and they told me to help myself. As many mentioned, birds and crocs abound, so keep an eye on your dog if you have one. Mosquitoes are rough, but that’s practically everywhere on the coast right now. Overall great place!

Report Check-In

Beside clean shower not taking care of the place.Worker on place said José want to sell.Pool not clean at all yarkk see picture

Report Check-In

We paid 225 pesos for one night. Two people in a VW combi van.

Report Check-In

Nice camping with "cabañas" two blocs far from the sea.

Report Check-In

Nice and quiet at night! Lots of shade. Very clean showers and toilets. Lots of room.. dump available for emptying tanks. I don’t think they serve food anymore.. we went and had dinner at el selling a block down and over , right on the beach. Order the camarones narurales..,delicious!!! Beautiful sunset!!

Report Check-In

Nice place, big sites to park. Every site has electricity, water, sewer. Toilets are clean and flush well, shower works perfect, it’s cold but who cares. A lot of birds in the campground trees. Maybe they have to clean up a little bit but again who cares, there are only a few old chairs and tables and that’s no dirt. 250 peso with electricity and that’s a fair price for what you get.

Report Check-In

Nice big place 2 blocks away from the beach with lots of shade and cool breeze. Very clean toilet and perfect shower! WiFi and pool with cool water. Amazing beach where you can walk for hours. Nice restaurants.Highly recommended

Report Check-In

good campground with shady sites (just be careful and don‘t park directly under a coconut palmtree...) and very clean showers and toilets! josé the host was really nice as well. we paid 200 pesos for a spot without electricity. short walk to the 32km beach. recommended!

Report Check-In

I think, the travellers that criticise this campground always stay in 5Star hotels. The place is beautiful, the host is friendly. Showers are great, toilets are clean and the Wifi is OK. You have a lot oft shady space. Water, dumping, electricity and fireplaces available. For a reasonable price. We loved it.

Report Check-In

The place is ok for one night. There are many things around the square. It looks messy. Think the operator is slowly losing the desire. no WiFi. But the shower is great :-) We paid for a pick up with 2 adults and 2 children 275 pesos

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Jose was a friendly man, although our three van team all payed varying prices for reasons we aren't entirely sure of...we paid 250, had water and power hook up, dump station, showers and toilets. Lots of grass and shade, but also a few insects as an inevitable result. There are lime trees on the property just dropping delicious fresh limes all over, very nice.

No real groceries stores in Puerto Arista and very few vegetarian options, so we suggest stocking up before hand.

Report Check-In

Simple, affordable, close to a beautiful beach. Thanks, Jose!

Report Check-In

Dump, water and some kind of electricity available. Our AC could not work and it was so hot! Wifi available near the office but only on request. We got access to the wifi the 1st day but for the 2nd day, we were not allowed to have access because we had a special price! What a strange old man! Beach at 5min walk. Quiet place. Lot of aunts and mosquitoes. Nice beach, black sand. Not much going on...

Report Check-In

Next to last stop in Mexico before entering Guatemala. Was able to get some minor repairs to travel trailer while staying overnight. As described full service for $300 pesos. Used air conditioning without problem.

Report Check-In

This is one of the better campsites/RV parks that we've come across in Mexico. The bathrooms and showers are clean with running water and good pressure, there is water and electricity at each site, and plenty of space and privacy. The owner hates the stray dogs coming onto the property, but he doesn't close the gate- your best bet it to ignore them and avoid feeding them so that he doesn't get mad. We paid $220 for an RV spot with water and access to the showers and bathrooms. Electricity was available for an extra charge but we didn't need it.

Report Check-In

250 per night with electricity, no WiFi. Canadian owner named Jose and his employee Fabian were very nice and welcoming. Not much in town other than small tiendas so stock up before going. A bunch of mango trees on site. Beach is gorgeous, lots of water for showers, good toilets. Great place for a pit stop. Just don’t bring in the stray dogs onto the property (see April 6th post) and the owner will be perfectly friendly!

Report Check-In

Run down, owner is grouchy, town is a dump. Not much else to choose from, so we stayed one night.

Report Check-In

as describded. 250 p for a night without elektricite.

Report Check-In

300 pesos per night for a family of 4. Showers room temperature is not a problem, it was so hot ! Clean bathrooms. You must move to fill up your water tanks or to dump but electricity on each site.
So much mosquitoes and ants.

Report Check-In

We enjoyed our stay and met great people, all the good previously posted is correct. Paddled and saw 3 crocodiles.

Report Check-In

Jose is very friendly and we have not any problem with him. This place is amazing and magic. We paid only 370Mx/ kings bed and bed with solo showers and 250/Mx kings bed and normal bed without shower in cabage. Speciality is that all camp has many grills. On main street at night you can try local food but nothing special. On beach is food more expensive and its not too special. Enjoy

Report Check-In

Good location, we are the only guests, not sure if expanding or contracting, they are working on building new cabanas but maintenance on the old ones are dubious. Bathroom clean with seat, shower with lots of water room temperature. Nice grass, shade, mango trees, coconut palms, bananas plants, lots of interesting birds, short walk to the beach . If you get at the end of the month probably no internet, but there is a good cyber cafe in town. If you are in bbq lots of girlie around not sure where u get wood, probably from the host.

Report Check-In

Very nice. Quiet, relaxing, beautiful grounds, birds abound. Wish we could have stayed longer. Full hookup - water, sewer, electric (even grounded and properly polarized electric outlet!) for 300 pesos per night. Very friendly Canadian host with lots of helpful info.

Report Check-In

Expensive but convenient.
There are Boat-billed Herons in the mangrove nearby and Giant Wrens in the neighbours' trees.
Wifi too expensif (10p/15min, 25p/1h) and restricted.
Better go to the only cyber in town which is fast for 15pesos/h.

Report Check-In

The place is nothing special... far away from the beach and the lagoon. We asked for using the A/C on our RV and the answer was NO. The owner was not friendly at all. We didn't stay.

Report Check-In

We stay here at least a week every year as we travel the mainland. It is one of the highlights of our journey. Every morning, just before the sun comes up, we take our kayak or Jose's canoe and paddle for several hours in the lagoon on the edge of his camp. It is a magical place!! Jose has preserved the wildness of the lagoon on his property and the birds are abundant. The boat-billed herons are thick in the trees. We see skies full of great egrets and snowy egrets. Green herons lurk in the shadows. So many birds! And iguanas. And lizards. Also caimans and crocodiles in the lagoon. It's always an adventure. And in the cashew/palm grove you'll see painted buntings and the rare great wren. The "chill pool" is perfect when the temperatures get hot. The showers and bathrooms are always clean. The cell tower signal is getting better every year so internet is possible with cell phones and USB modems. High speed internet just hasn't made it to Puerto Arista yet.............and that can be a good thing. Take a deep breath, slow down and look around. You'll be amazed at what you find.

Report Check-In

Très bien, nous avons payé M250 par nuit pour quatre avec électricité et eau. Les douches et toilettes sont propres, que voulez-vous de plus. Il y a même des emplacements avec égouts.

Report Check-In

We must have caught Jose on a good day. He was quite friendly. Really nice spot but we were just passing through so didn't really explore around any.

Report Check-In

Grassy spot, with clean bathrooms. There is a pool but there is no water in it right now. Paid 350$ for 2 nights without electricity. There is a small restaurant with cafe and beer. We had the chance to release baby turtles on the beach.

Report Check-In

Not such a great spot. Jose is a kind of grumpy fellow, it is very hot with little breeze and LOADS of mosquitos. Pool is forgettable and we were charged 220 pesos for one night with electricity

Report Check-In

Surprisingly, we had a bad interaction with Jose and he was not friendly. *Note* be sure to 'check in' as soon as you arrive. Even after apologizing for not checking in right away he was still rude to us. His demeanor definitely caught us off guard given the other reviews. Campground a few blocks off the beach. Full hookups available. We paid $175 for electricity to run our fans because it was really hot and humid. Lots of fruit and cashew trees on property. Good bathrooms. No wifi. Stock up on groceries beforehand as the town is very limited. Stayed 1 night.

Report Check-In

Friendly owner; great water pressure. Paid 175p with power for our rig. We did run AC during the day when in rig as it was 100 outside! Beach is amazing and goes on and on and on. Worth the slight detour before going inland. We rented an ATV one afternoon and had fun. Telcel decent but only 3G. We were only campers.

Report Check-In

Turn left onto the main street, go half mile and turn left again at the Garden Beach Hotel. Third time here. Always clean, always friendly. 2 blocks to the beach for 150 pesos or 175 with electric.

Report Check-In

This campground was one of my favorites so far! The 32k beach is incredible and empty, and just a short walk away. The showers are the best 'warm' camp showers I have encountered! This was a great place to stop on the drive north - wish I could have stayed longer. Jose is a great host and his dogs are awesome.

Report Check-In

We camped here several months ago while heading south and meant to check in at the time. It was one of the nicest campsites yet! Great washrooms and showers!!! Nice guy. Definitely recommend it. Paid $250 pesos.

Report Check-In

A well established campground run by a Canadian expat. The bathroom/showers are great, with good water pressure and the toilets have seats! There is a good restaurant on site. A good stopping point between Puerto Escondido/Zipolite and San Cristobal de las Casas. Apparently this place is also excellent if you are into birdwatching. Not much of a town around here, so stock up with the necessities before coming. Joe, the owner, is super friendly. We paid 150pesos per night without electric. Watch out for crocodiles in the estuary behind the property!

Report Check-In

If it wasn't summer and rainy season it would be a great place. There were many mosquitoes and it was incredibly humid days and nights The campground is located two blocks from the Pacific Ocean beach and there is a very simple looking bathroom, but very clean, the showers were cold, but with the best water pressure which you can imagine. The place is quite idyllic located at a lagoon with palm trees.

Be careful when you walk along the beach to eat something. Have a look at the menus and the prices. We have eaten anywhere so bad and so expensive in whole Mexico!
