Gorgeous high-elevation boondocking along Forest Road 5 in the Carson National Forest. It's a wide, well-maintained dirt road that should be passable by any vehicle. Getting off the road to the individual campsites depends on where you pick, but I saw several options that looked like they'd be no trouble. It's boondocking, so there are no facilities.
I was there in July 2017, and everything was remarkably green. There are evergreens spaced around green grassy areas, and a small creek flowing by. There was nobody camped within visual distance of me, but I did see a few other vehicles head further up the road, so there much be more campsites past this. At night, it was very quiet, and in the morning, just the sound of the birds.
Beautiful, peaceful, green and cool (it's about 9,000 ft elevation). And it's free! (-:

No dice. Gate to road all locked up. Really no spots along this road all the way from Taos. Back to the walmart.
Report Check-InTons of spots off of the road. Road is great for most any vehicle until the top portion where big ruts might stop you.
Quiet clean and cut grass everywhere from all the grazing cows. Beautiful
Lovely location, lots of wildlife. Only downside is proximity to track. Small amount of vehicles in day and wind blew up valley so no dust came our way
Report Check-InGreat location, very quiet ! Lots of cows but they are not that loud at night. We loved it!
