Latest Check-Ins

We stayed at a place next door to this just along the road a couple of nights before visiting Tikal, we came back to have a beer and see a friend, but when we parked up a lady came out and said we couldn't park there or anywhere along that road, tried to charge us for the other night and seemed pretty annoyed with us. Fairly understandable if they're running a campsite right next door, but just to note in case others are thinking to do the same.

On another note, the bar next door called Mayan Roots is great, good food and cheap beer

I spoke with Yolanda about parking (sleeping in our truck) on her property. The parking is in the front of their property and they have a few dirt spots. She originally quoted Q35pp, but I negotiated down to Q30pp for 1 couple in 1 truck or Q25pp for 2 couples in 2 trucks. They have bathrooms. No showers. No wifi. Yolanda was very friendly. However, Adonis (her son) was very drunk and a bit intrusive. He said we can leave our dog while we go to Tikal, but they don’t have a fenced in area and we were afraid the dog would run off to try to find us. So, we stayed next door at Casa de Doña Tonita (also on iO). I think this spot would be ok generally, we just weren’t in the mood to entertain a drunk youth. Also, the grassy camping areas right on the lake at Casa de Doña Tonita and also at Ernesto’s are more beautiful/enjoyable/spacious.

Stayed here the night before visiting Tikal. It's basically the family's front yard, but it does have a nice view of the lake. Small rigs only and not much flat ground - super nice family and they have some cabins too. No WiFi but clean toilets and showers. In hindsight there's no need to pay to camp on the lake so I would have gone to a free spot. 25Q per person.

We stayed here one night. Payed 60 Q for the two of us. The owners are very friendly and the food was good too. We took a swim in the evening and the morning in the beautiful lake. They told us it costs 5 Q per Person for using the „ramp“, but we didn’t found out where to pay. The wifi was not working.

The official price seems to be 40qz pp now, but we managed to 30. Wifi doesn’t work anymore, don’t know for how long. Nice and friendly people. There’s a nice palapas belonging to the hotel next door where you can chill for 5qz pp. We haven’t try the restaurant but other customers said it’s great (there are vegetarians dishes, btw). Good place for a night before Tikal and in front of the lake but we haven’t been amazed ... maybe because there was a lot a rain the days before and that ruined the trees and grass ?

we stay here with other overlander. Yolanda and her family was very friendly. they offer also food in a tiny restaurant ( we don't try it) toilets simple, no showers. Wi-Fi doesn't work. but very quiet at night and direct on the Lake.

Report Check-In

Stayed at this small family run camp area for 2 nights. Yolanda, Elias and their 5 children are all very friendly and helpful. Camp sites are separated from the lake by small paved road , easy access to lake for swimming and kayaking. Cold showers and somewhat clean flush toilets. Yolanda also runs a small restaurant we did not try. Paid 50Q for 2 people in truck camper.

We spent a couple of nights at this beautiful spot while visiting Tikal. We planned to spend the night in Tikal, but while we stoped in front of Yolanda's place, she came out to say hi and offered their place to stay. They were so nice and willing to help that we changed our plans and spent the night here. We paid 50Q for the two of us with electricity (you will need a long extension). Nice views of the lake and sunset. There are a couple of decks from where you can swim, they charge 5Q.

the owner Yolanda is really nice. the food iw good and with large plates. it was great to enjoy the lake from the pier. the price was 25q pp.

upon our departure we went to pay him 20Q pp and he informed us it was 40Q pp. He had said 40 on our first day but we assumed he was talking about total for the two of us. we told him what iOverlander said and what we thought and ended up paying 20pp. he asked us to correct the price online to avoid future confusion.
price 40Q pp for dry camping. use of toilet and shower and wifi included.
couldn't plug in the rig, but could charge devices at the covered area.
nice dock across the road to hang out on and swim.
nice enough space, nice guy, fine for a night before Tikal.

We absolutely loved this place! The owners, Yolanda and Elias, are incredibly sweet and warm, as are their 3 young children. The original price was Q25 per person, but as we were staying for 2 nights, Yoli was willing to drop it to Q20 per person. Our VW Westfalia fit perfectly in the flat spot available. The bathrooms/shower were as to be expected in Guatemala - a bit dirty and no toilet seats, but who cares. Yoli also cooks extremely well - prices were reasonable and portions generous. It's across the street from the lake, where you can chill on the dock and swim in the lovely water. Beautiful sunsets with a wonderful warm breeze. We also encountered a local named Lou (American, but living here for past 15 years) who was biking around selling his delicious banana bread and orange cake loaves. A super relaxing experience overall.

very friendly and nice owners.
but the best is the lake and the dock in front of the camping: beautiful view and swimming!
biotopo national park near by with some nice trails and miradores of the lake. (40Q pP)

Report Check-In

Cost: 20 Q per person per night
Dates stayed: 6-9 January 2015
Restaurant: Yes, two table restaurant. We had a good meal of local fish caught from the lake
Notes: This is a small family run establishment and they were very welcoming. Adonis runs the camping and speaks good English and will watch your dog when you visit Tikal. We were there with friends so didn’t take advantage of that option. It is across the street from a swimming dock. This campground is very scenic and is quiet at night. It is within walking distance to town for restaurants and grocery. They also have eight hostel beds at a very affordable rate.
Electricity: Yes there were electrical plugs at the restaurant
Internet: No but 3G is available if you have a Tigo cell/data plan
