If you are just doing the one transit day through Honduras, it costs 300 Lpa per dog. 525 if not. Can pay with card (even my AmEx worked).

When you finish the immigration + aduana process for the TIP, drive away and take a sharp right on the roundabout. Pull in on the right and it’s the first SEPA building there.

The guys are nice and helpful. They were training a new guy, so the process was a bit slow. Receipts for everything.

We adopted our dog in Mexico and they wanted the Mexican export papers (we never got any…) after a bit they seemed not to care anymore. They needed

-passport
-vaccine card for dog
-vet health certificate from el salvador
-they took a vet health certificate from Mexico that we used to enter Guatemala instead of the export papers

They made copies of everything.

They then proceeded to do a full exam of my dog. Ears, mouth, paws, butt. The whole deal. Took a picture, and we were off!

El Salvador -> Honduras, single night transit to Nica.

After we went through immigration and TIP we navigated to this point. Asked at the green SEPA container office as mentioned in the previous post, but was instead sent to the elevated blue and white offices across the street… they first asked how long we were planning to stay (1 night), so perhaps duration determines which office handles the registration. Look for the blue and white ‘Office 2 - SEPA’ across the street, walk up the stairs and knock on the door.

They wanted photo copies of the owners passport, Honduras TIP, current health certificate and vaccine records (ours was from Guatemala but less than 30 days old and found to be acceptable). If you have copies great, if not they were kind enough to make them. Starting in Guatemala the officials at each entry and exit have stamped a single copy of the rabies certification. He added a stamp to the collection, made a copy and gave back the original.

Took a picture of the dog, asked for 300L (paid with credit card) and sent us on our way with a freshly minted set of import papers to be used for inquiring police officers and upon exiting the country. Very friendly throughout the process!

Exit HON to EL SAL:

Stop here first if you have pets!

Drive past the trucks until you see several elevated train cars on both sides of the road.

The set of train cars on the right is the building that you want. Just walk into the side door, you don’t need to wait at the window.

Show your SEPA paperwork and receipt of payment from entering Honduras and they will stamp you out. No need to bring your animals inside.

Now go to the migration and Aduana office.

After doing your paperwork at immigration you can loop back around to here. Our dog was thoroughly inspected in one building then we went to another building where they took photos of the dog and copies of our vet certificate. Total cost was 280 lempira. While we could pay in USD at the border for TIP and entry we had to exchange for lempira to pay for the dog paperwork. Luckily there was someone nearby to exchange. A little bit of a hassle but overall a smooth process once we figured out where to go.
