Description

This is the entrance to the salar and the flamingo lake. We made pins on the map to find the way back, because we heard people got lost.

Latest Check-Ins

Open today. Was just driving around the fingers. Some 'hidden' overlanders behind the rocks and a tour bus driving through to the salar.

Report Check-In

Didn't go in because you see thd landscape from the main road, but no closing sign. Tour buses vom SPdA went in.

Report Check-In

Seems to be open. Nobody around and a tour group had just driven around the rock fingers. Not sure about access to the salar from here.

Report Check-In

We arrived at the salar and on our way back out there are rangers telling us that this park is closed and ask us to leave very nicely. There were no road blocks. But it’s okay to visit the stone fingers

Report Check-In

Tour guide told us, Salar de Tara is closed. Just went in to see the rockfingers.

Confirmed, this is the proper entrance to the Salar, about 200m off the road you’ll find the park sign board. We roughly followed the road shown on maps.me, recording your trail with Wikiloc or similar strongly recommend. This is a fragile environment which is being destroyed by too many tracks, try to keep near one of the more major ones. Mainly firm surface, with a few patches of deeper sand, limited corrugation. Absolutely no one there when we visited so if you get stuck or breakdown it’s a long cold walk out at high altitude. Be prepared. Salar and scenery is fantastic.

A very beautiful place. If you want to go until the salar de Tara, a 4x4 is needed because it is sandy in some places and the altitude is around 4600m. We did it with our 4x4 van with a low clearance (in comparison of real 4x4 but higher than a car). There are tracks everywhere. The road on maps me is fine but it is whiteboard. There are lots of tour which went to the salar de Tara for the lunch. The best is to follow one of them. You can ask for that, they are helpful.

Report Check-In

as described. just follow the tracks (there are many of them but most lead to the laguna)
once at the laguna be aware of where you are allowed to go. stones means not allowed to go....
