Tempted to not share because it’s nice an quiet lately - but Flagler Resevoir is very much still open.

- it’s not entirely free - every person should have s hunting/fishing permit or a day pass which can be purchased online for $10. I’ve never been asked to show a pass. I bought one once. Figure I can play the “had bad service couldn’t buy it but will later” card.

The road around the reservoir is closed due to road damage suffered during floods in June 2023. Nothing accessible from the East. West has access to rather nice pit toilets, a couple picnic structures, and ample parking lot space for overnighting.

-be warned that unless it’s actively snowing there will be an abundance of some kind of bug wanting to irritate you. In the spring it was moths, in the summer it was flies, and this fall my goodness, you could wear the mosquitos as a sweater they were so thick.

All in all I really like this spot. It’s rather convenient to the highway yet far enough away you get barely any road noise. I wouldn’t necessarily come here for the camping but it’s a great place to get away and not be bothered.

I’ve camped here twice now on my way to Colorado and have had no issues sleeping here overnight. It can be tricky to find it at night because it’s extremely dark and the coordinates given on here aren’t entirely correct so just be careful of that. Overall super peaceful spot and would camp here again! The sunrise here is also beautiful!

I've stayed here multiple times on my way to Colorado to snowboard. This time the road to the west was in terrible shape. I came in on the east side and the road was fine, but leaving the road was horribly muddy. I came to a stop multiple times and had to reverse then push through. I was really worried about getting stuck in my rwd van.

Quiet spot to spend the night with a sunset view WELL worth the drive off of the highway. As the sun went down, small gnat type bugs were pretty intense so be prepared for that.

Came in the from the west...road changes to gravel about 2.5 from 70. smooth gravel.

Almost every spot was taken on a weekday. unexpected.

quite enough considering 70 is nearby. more effort than a Walmart or rest stop but certainly better.

The water in the reservoir is currently flooding so this place is closed. They are worried it will effect their town soon. Signs and cones up.

Beware. I came back here last night to spend the night and went down the old boat ramp thinking that was the campsite. Do not turn down any shady roads: just keep going until you dead end and damp there. I ended up getting stuck in a huge hole there and had to wait until the next day for a tow and the closest Wench that would do it was 3 hours away. It was a $1500 recovery job and all I can say is thank gos for coachnet and roadside assistance.

Excellent spot for an overnight as we were traveling on I-70: conveniently located with easy access to interstate (dirt road into camp area was very smooth) yet far enough away from loud traffic noise. Vault toilet by entrance was surprisingly clean. We parked by boat ramp for the night with no issues.

Nice place to spend the night. 2 fire pits. We heard coyotes that night but in the distance. The night sky is gorgeous. A little bit of highway noice.

I got too tired to finish driving to Denver, a bit rough gravel/dirt road coming in but nothing too major, just be careful. I read some of the check ins and got hesitant to park here because of the people who mentioned you need a permit but so far I’ve been fine. Pitch black coming in around 9:30 pm. Tons of spots to camp at on the loop, I took a left before the loop and parked down that part of the road at the end. Love how secluded this place is!

Great spot! Passed two other vans on the way in. Arrived around 11pm and set up near the picnic shelter. Had no problems. Very quiet and easy access to the interstate.

Awesome spot close to the highway. Came in around 10pm pitch black and had no problems. It’s a dirt road but a nice smooth flat dirt road. Stars were incredible.

New blacktop on all but the last 1.5 miles. All spots were occupied so I camped down on the old boat ramp. The lake is dry so it's not in use.

When I came in late last night a lot of the spots already had people in them on these separate little roads. I happened to get a field sunflowers. No regrets. No Lake and 2 bars Verizon with out we boost.

Overall a great place to spend a night. Quiet, lots of different places to pull off to camp, and very little traffic. Super smooth dirt road on the way to it, just 5 miles off I-70. We would suggest arriving when it’s still sort of light outside (not in pitch dark) so you can find a spot not already occupied by someone else — we accidentally pulled in around midnight by someone else and could barely get turned around to get out of there! Other than that, a great place to stop. Cell signal, too! Lots of mosquitos. But be sure to check out the stars — no light pollution = amazing skies!!!!

Heavy bug pressure on this early summer night forced me out. Too bad, it's a good spot otherwise. Toilet building is on the road, due west of the marked location.

This was a nice, free camping area. There's a main gravel road going around the reservoir between the two entrances with dirt/gravel roads off of it leading to the different camp areas. Pit toilets are by the two entrances. I arrived after dark and was able to find a site once I realized there were side roads leading to them. Watch out for ticks in the long grass, I found one on my dog the next day.

We had planned on staying here but there was a sign that said you needed a hunting/fishing permit to use the land. We decided to find another spot and stayed at a paid campground for the night.

As described by most. Didnt see anything that suggested having to pay for camp. there are different parking locations and pull offs depending on your preference. Very quiet, dark, off the beaten path; no one here when I pull up.

Nice area with secluded spaces to sleep. I slept here for free. Maybe it’s because I got here late at night but no one bothered me. Cell service was spotty. Where I slept didn’t have any cell service but a few yards up the hill and I had one bar of LTE. Very quiet place, love it.

looks like a nice quiet place but as of 07/01/20 you must purchase a hunting or fishing license to dry camp at state parks in Colorado. according to Google the cost of the license is $95.00 for non residents. there goes the free boondocking in Colorado.

really nice find here. at least a dozen spots, easy to get to with well maintained roads, and extremely clean pit toilets. I was here on a Sunday evening and rolled in around 7:00 p.m. with zero traffic. No noise from the highways. only giving four stars since there isn't much to see or much coverage. just a good place to hunker down for the night.

Quiet campsite. Used the day use area by accident because we got in after dark, but there was no issue at all. We had the whole place to ourselves. Just make sure when driving down the dirt/gravel road you don’t turn to early into the wildlife area- we almost hit the sturdy metal wire they had blocking it to cars. Follow the road straight, a left bend and a bit right leads you straight to the little out house.

Great spot with plenty of parking areas. As far as I can tell there's no designated overnight parking (don't just park in the road...) During my stay in December there was one mega-camper on the east side, by pit-toilet #2. I parked at the west boat ramp near pit-toilet #1, closer to tree town of Flagler. I didn't have any wifi signal, but town isn't far and there's a neat little diner! As mentioned, reservoir is dry, which probably means fewer people / less busy, but there are lots of little pullouts from the main road with covered picnic areas and often fire pits. Most are full circle turn-arounds, too. Only 2 pit-toilets as mentioned, one on each side of the res.

the state park was probably created when there was water. it is still maintained, nice , clean, etc. I find a map, camping is allowed, anyway there is nobody, you will be probably alone at this very nice place, but probably not at the designated campsite because no sign except welcome to the park. the gravel road is very very good even better than many roads

Great dry camping location. More camping sites north of main entrance. pit toilet house clean and well maintained. Dumpster available. Picnic shelter with two tables. Perfect site for camping. No water in the reservoir. Easy drive on gravel road. County asphalt road full of potholes.

These coordinates are south of the camping loop. The ones from this check-in are correct. If you follow the existing spot, the road is very poor and may get stuck (don't ask how we know :)). The loop is to the north of where this pin is located, also north of the day use area with toilet. We parked in a day use area with no issue.

This camping spot is about a 5 mile drive just north I-70 and is a free camping spot. The roads are dirt/gravel and I drove it easily with my 35 foot motorhome and towed car. There is a campsite loop with several spots to camp. The loop road does have some low hanging trees so I just drove on the grass to avoid them. One spot has a picnic table and fire pit. Pulled off of 70 around midnight and found a spot with zero lights. Aired up the bed and hit the sack. Great way station.
