Great spot to spend the night. Sort of a wild camp amongst the trees watched over by the police department. Donations appreciated. Mostly quiet with plenty of birds.

it's alright kinda overgrown and muddy but good for an overnight stay! ✌️

Nice city free dry camping. Many pullouts along the Yellowstone River. No facilities we could see. Many campers. Road and train noise. Good cellular. Pretty River.

Perfect spot for a night! Bunch of spots and quiet except for the road but it’s not noticeable.

This is a great find so close to the highway. I think that we are the only ones here on this mid-March night. Very quiet. We decided on a spot on the east end and the toilet here is locked, we didn't check the one on the west end.

Report Check-In

Stayed on a weeknight. Plenty of open sites but the best sites (on the river) all taken. Vault toilet in the stretch further in (the more southeast of the two markers on the map) had plenty of toilet paper but was pretty nasty, though no smell.

Stopped for dinner and on the way considered spending the night but decided to keep going once I got here. Vibes felt off, seemed like a lot of long term folks. Some good spots, some bad. I stopped at the first open one and had no view while cooking but a short walk led to the river. Road noises and people walking and driving in and out. But all vehicles can fit, lots of short vans and long buses.

Great find! I’ve gone past on the interstate for 50 years and never heard of it until I overlander. Strong Verizon signal.

Report Check-In

Right on river bank, has fire ring and picnic table. Windy in the winter. Cars driving in and out infrequently.

Report Check-In

Amazing place! A lot of campsites and they’re spread out so it doesn’t feel crowded at all. River in front of it. Good signal for Verizon with data. Fires rings and picnic tables. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Great Place to camp for handful of days. I’ll update this listing in a little while with a more complete review. Amazing place

Tons of spots available. Also quite a few people, but very well spaced apart. Great location, easy to find.

this place is so great! cant believe its free! we camped at a pull off spot between the actual two campgrounds. theres a trail that leads right down to the river where we spent the whole day. we went exploring down the little creek and saw some deer!

City run free campground. Large well spaced sites with some on the banks of the Yellowstone River. Others are under large shade trees.

Nice place! I stayed here for 6 days.

Water, cleanish, bathroom, grocery store is an easy walk, river to cool out in.

Fairly quiet inside park. Holds plenty of people but lots of places to choose from.

Nearby train is loud but they did not bother me.

nice spot by the river but I had to clean up trash around our site. 😢
It is so much better to enjoy camping in nature without trash!!

Report Check-In

Great free camping spot with riverside spots and plenty of large and small spots. Bathroom are nice and are maintained frequently. The town of Columbus is near by for supplies if needed.

Report Check-In

Really enjoyed this campground that is run by the city of Columbus. Bathrooms in the front camping area was clean with potable water and good lighting. The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings. Lots of high cotton wood trees for shade. Lots of grass and sites are near the river. Great place for tent camping!

Apple maps will lead you down the wrong road. Don’t take 3rd ave. Keep going 0.3 miles and enter in at the upper entrance! There’s a sign before you cross the bridge.
Awesome spot! A ton of other campers if you keep going down the loop there’s more spots that a little more private! Individual campsites with fire rings and picnic tables ! Awesome spot for being free!!

Both campgrounds are connected, once you drove through the first one and alongside the golf court, you reach this loop, nice old trees and boat ramp as well as a water faucet (non potable, but fine to wash dishes) and pit toilet. Free, but there is a donations box if you would like to thank the volunteers that keep this place maintained.

Report Check-In

Nice spot. Some train noise from afar. Not bad. 11:00pm & 4:30am. Did here pops that sounded like shot gun fire somewhere close even into the dark. Mystery. Some snow when we arrived and about 5” more during the night so tables and fire rings not used. Would stay again.
