Description

Moderator Note - there is another municipal campground on the North Eastern corner of the city. GPS: -54.781070, -68.271420 No facilities but nice trees, river, playground and relative peace and quiet during the week

Now that both formal campgrounds in Ushuaia have been closed down, this represents just about the only choice other than paying the high entrance fee to enter the national park and use their 'free' campsites which also have no significant facilities apart from drop toilets.

NOTE that there are toilets here but condition unknown.

Although far from the center, it is a great option to stay in Ushuaia. Quiet place by the river, many travelers, especially Brazilians, stay here. There is no water or electricity, but it is possible to use river water, which is drinkable. Next door is the train station, which is very warm and during the day you can use the bathrooms.

Very quiet night in flat grassy place. Many BBQ. Near railway station of old train. Start at 9am with train hissing. Many places for many big rigs. Tent ok. Nice view. And was not so crowded

Report Check-In

Free camping with a lot of space, but it is very busy. Toilets near the entrance but only one out of four open that wouldn’t flush. Phone signal is good

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Viel Platz, fast alles ziemlich uneben, bei Nässe zusätzlich schwieriger Platz. Nicht wirklich schön hier. Kostenfrei.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Ideal to get ready to go to the national park in the morning. No facilities but enough space for everyone.

Report Check-In

beautiful place..the Pipo river runs and there are grills but it is forbidden to make a fire due to fire risk. It has bathrooms and to draw water. many motorhomes...

Report Check-In

We only take a lunch here but it could be a nice place for a night : it is flat, next to a river with BBQ places.

Report Check-In

Free and safe, as there are always other RVs staying here. Police passes around once a day at least.

Report Check-In

nice place, if you have a self-contained camper. There are 2 vault toilets which are the nastiest toilets we‘ve ever seen. Barbecue places, no other facilities.

Report Check-In

Lovely warm filling-the-stomach lunch in the cafe of the Estacion (lentil stew with meat and basket of bread and butter)

Report Check-In

Really crowdy during the day on the week-ends, but everyone leaves at night and it was nice and calm.

Report Check-In

free municipal campsite. wc. river. grass area with barbecue. possibility of putting tents or vehicles of any size. from the end of the world train. there is a kiosk in the station.

Report Check-In

Nice free campsite with an amazing view!
Very many locals at the weekend, when the weather is good. We made the mistake to park directly at the river. So we were sorrounded by very loud music and busy children playing etc the whole next day. Stay a little far away from the riverbank and it should be better on sunny days/ weekends. Otherwise a very nice spot! (Stayed here 2 nights)
PS: But our favorite, because a lot more quite and sheltered, was the other municipal.

Report Check-In

Very spacious campsite on the banks of the Pipo River, it has natural water from the river and it is possible to use the bathroom (disabled) by flushing with a bucket of water. Free and reasonable Wi-Fi at the End of the World Train station.

Report Check-In

Nice and green place. Next to the train station. Many fire pits and many overlanders. Toilets available. Free.

Report Check-In

Free camping in a grassland next to the river and the train station. It's quiet, calm, safe and pleasant place. The view is beautiful. There are firepits but no facilities only hidden chimicals toilets that we didn't see. You can use the toilets of the train station during opening hours.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for 2 nights. The view is cool and better then the other municipal campside. We used the toilets of the tourist train in the morning. We found the campground toilet on the day we were leaving, did not check it. Be aware that the tourist busses for the train arrive at 8.30. Save and nice place to stay. Police drove by a couple of times. And the horses are really cute.

Report Check-In

Tranquilo e silencioso. A polícia passa fazendo ronda durante o dia e a noite.

Report Check-In

Super quiet place to stay for a few days, although there is no shower or power, it has a beautiful view of the mountains, lots of space and bbqs. We spent five days here.

Report Check-In

não gostei.
duas tomadas para luz apenas cpm baixa amperagem.
não pode ligar nada que tenha resistência.
muito descuidado.
é uma pena.

Report Check-In

Safe and pleasant place. A little out of town, next to the train station. Protected from the wind, but humid. There are restrooms and once a week city hall employees collect the garbage and fill the water truck for water. There is 1 electrical outlet. There are no showers. Free.

Protegido do vento, porém umido.

Gratuito.

This is one of two municipal campsites in Ushuaia. I would not call it an established campsite... It has BBQ places and one toilet without running water. No shower. At least it is for free. It is a pity that there is no established campground in Ushuaia with facilities. (especially as it is THE destination for Pan-American travellers) If you don't have a shower in your vehicle, you need to go to YPF to have a shower. (the one in the center has no shower, you need to drive further out of the city.) As it is very close to the train station, you can also use the toilets there. They are very clean and open from 9am to 5pm. There is a really nice view to the mountains from this campsite. Be aware that there are a lot of wild horses... Take care of their dung, when you leave your vehicle in the morning. 😅

Report Check-In

very nice place. no shower only at gasstation.one toilet but no running water. a lot of places
a lot of horse and dog poop.

Report Check-In

Entrada gratis.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Beautiful camping in the middle of the mountains. It's got water, but it's not drinkable. Clean bathroom without shower. It's free

Report Check-In

Excellent point. A beautiful view of the mountains, protected from the wind. We got an outlet near the toilets.
Beside there is water for bathing and utilities, we were told not to be drinkable.
There is only one outlet working, but with the use of power strips it is possible to put up to 6 cars on the power.
The only cons is being far from the city, but it is compensated by the landscape and tranquility.

Report Check-In

Free camping, with beautiful landscapes! There are bathroons, with no showers - during the week, they let just one cabin open, in the weekends they open one or two more.
Energy just near the bathroons - but pay attention because the energy can shut off when it’s full of RV’s using it.
There are several barbecue spots, and flat areas and it’s really near the National Park entrance.
We stayed here for 3 weeks and it was peaceful (excepting during the weekends) and really safe.
You definetly will get visits from zorros and horses during the night :)
4G Claro coverage.

Report Check-In

Incredible loud music and light shows on a Friday night by other campers. We left at 3:30 am.

Report Check-In

This campground is open. But there is nothing, maybe toilets, but I wasn't there.
BBQ is possible, no wifi, electricity near the toilets. You have to pay nothing.
Next campground to the park

Report Check-In

good place to spend the night when you dont want to pay or you are too late for the national park.
very good protection against the wind with a roof tent.
despite what written in comment toilets clean during our stay.

Report Check-In

We did not find this place inviting.
Sorry Ushuaia but you can do better.
We moved on to the NP which actually has inviting campsites for free, of course you need to pay your entrance fee first.

Report Check-In

At the end of Jan 2020 this place was great. Toilets clean, loads of flat space (great for kids), really quiet and felt safe. Lovely view of the mountains, and close to N.P. gate. A short drive into town- come equipped as there's nothing else here. Train station closes at 5pm.

Report Check-In

Vast space with installation for barbecue, near by the river and surrounded by the mountains. Very close to the park de Tierra del Fuego. Toilets available. Free for tent, van...Busy and loud during the weekend. But definitely worth to spend a couple of nights.

Report Check-In

Super quiet and during the day the toiletts were cleaned every hour.

Report Check-In

good campsite. we stayed here for3 nights (including new years eve), can be noisy at place cause de local(regeaton sounds). i recommend.

Report Check-In

didnt use the apparently gross facilities, but found this is a nice, wind sheltered spot, quiet, with level places and a good vibe to it. nos gusta

Report Check-In

It's a great place, quiet while week. At weekend lots of locals, more party noise, but peaceful. There are toilettes, we don't use. We saw some stuff to clean toiletts every day. We enjoyed the place, no food supply.

Report Check-In

If you’re doing like we did and are currently driving all over Ushuaia looking for that special spot, to no avail... Stop. This is that spot. Quiet, spacious, and close enough to town to be convenient! This spot doesn’t check all of the boxes, but in our week in Ushuaia we were unable to find a better spot for us and our kids. Highly recommend!

Report Check-In

During the week no locals, so very quiet and nice right by the river. No facilities, but one open toilet (but only water to flush, not in the sink). Right next to the trainstation and close to the park‘s entrance.

Report Check-In

Stayed here after sites in national park were closed due to a “vicious fox”.

Good spot next to the river, there were a few locals playing music but was quiet after 11. Toilets can be found by the side of the sports field, they were in bad condition when I arrived at night but there was a cleaner there the following day.

Report Check-In

Nice spot with a river and mountain views. Popular with locals so don’t forget your earplugs for the booming music!

Report Check-In

Great place to stay before entering the national park. We do not need bathrooms or shower, have everything in the motorhome. Free, grills available, nice views. Saturday night here much life, but isn't this the essence of traveling? We are stunned that a place like this is available for free.

Report Check-In

Very quiet and nice spot with BBQ. Close to Ushuaia downtown and the National Park. From there you are at the railway station, nice steam Loco.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Not bad for just camping for the night seeing as how close it is to the city. Bathrooms are definitely a no-go, so you need to utilize other options for that. The campground is situated in between the train station and golf course, so not a lot of privacy, but it was quiet at night. Fire pits available for grilling. FREE!

Report Check-In

C'mon guys. This is a free spot with view on mountains, a small creek and some trees and a place to make a fire. Be happy about it. It's actually good enough!

Report Check-In

Did no bother about toilet and facilities. Just glad to be outside town. Park entrance of 350 pp just to much to rush in for the night.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

We stayed beside the train station on the BBQ area right on the lake. You can use the bathrooms of the train station preferably when poeple are around.

Report Check-In

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

Most disgusting toilets ever. Whilst this the only free option in the area suggest you stop at gas station / restaurant etc and do your business. These toilets are a no-go

Report Check-In

We had a visit from the police just before sundown, he just wanted to check our plates (Chilean). He also crossed around a few times checking on campers, seems secure. Average place, condition as you'd expect for free camping, toilets (untested) and BBQ stations. Noisy locals in the evening as usual playing the same dance track on repeat at full volume.

Report Check-In

Nice spot with bbq . we stayed 2 days, view on the mountains . its dirty and noicy on weekends but if you Go near the river that great.

Report Check-In

Nothing Special. Run down, no baños. The only good aspect is that it is for free.

Report Check-In

There are some big concrete bbq stations near a forest patch. It's a bit of a neglected place surrounding a soccer field and people just leave trash laying around after their weekend bbq. If you don't care about making a fire there are some nicer spots near some trees and a little river. The toilet building should have a bio hazard sign on it and is way beyond the possibility of cleaning. Everything is overflowing. Don't go near it! We had a good time here nevertheless. If you turn your view towards the trees it's ok and a free place to stay.

Report Check-In

We joined three other overlanding groups here to have a fire when it was not permitted in the park. It's great that a free camping place is provided so close to town (10min drive). Rubbish bins and toilets provided.

Report Check-In

This isn't so bad. Next to a nice river and wasn't too dirty when we were here. It's just far out of town, especially if you're not heading to the national park (dog).

Report Check-In

Given that this is one of the very few places around Ushuaia available for camping, a little bit of rubbish (not evident when we were there) is irrelevant.

Rural area, nice views, next to train station going to National park.

No facilities.

Report Check-In

This place is a dump. There is rubbish everywhere and no facilities.
