Latest Check-Ins

As it was saying before.
Avoid this park. Pay a lot and see nothing, ok Zeze flies where there. The route near the river was closed and it’s allowed only to drive the transit, a horrible stony and pumpy treck. Costs $ 65 to go through. Don’t wast your money!! From north better take the 05 through south Luangwa.

Report Check-In

We drove from the Great north road through to Chifunda camp (which is worth the stay) but the transit definitely wasn’t great. We didnt see a single animal driving through here and paid the ridiculous rates just for transit.
We have been to plenty reserves in Africa and this is probably the most boring one.

It does however provide access to the pontoon and the other side of the river has beautiful reserves such as the Luambe and plenty beautiful local villages to drive through.. that made the price worth it for us

Report Check-In

Pontoon is not working at the moment. Crossing the Luangwa river was okey, a little bit sandy. People were helpful and showed us the “highway” through the river.

We drove from Samala camp to Chifunda bush camp. The drive itself is scenic and you see lots of different vegetation. We payed $65,- for two persons and a foreign car. Just before the actual entrance of the park we saw elephants and in the park lots of tracks and elephant pooh but unfortunately we did not see so many animals in the park. We crossed the river with the pontoon and saw hippos, elephants and other animals from the side of Chifunda bush camp. At night we heard two Leopards roaring.

Beautiful Park, don’t agree with prior comments re it being barren. Perhaps it’s about expectations? Pontoon crossing is open June - November and is operational now. We saw puku, impala, elephant, warthog, hartebees. Lovely drive up escarpment. Road condition good - max 3hrs to Mano from Chifunda. We weren’t told we could not stop and the rules said nothing about this. You have to stick to transit road unless you are staying at Buffalo Camp - this is due to the Southern Section being reserved for walking safaris as guests of Buffalo Camp. However, if you take an escort game scout from Chifunda camp at SE entrance, then you are allowed to drive North and South along the Luangwa River inside the park but you’ll have to drop the scout back at Chifunda pontoon before transiting. Scout cost is apparently to be agreed between you and the scout - we did not have time to do this but it’s a great option if you are heading North into the Park in the morning from Chifunda. Note: you have to pay to transit.

Report Check-In

Not worth your money except to get to the Great North Road from here and Kasanka NP.

Report Check-In

USD 25pp plus 30 for a foreign registered car. Park is barren of visable wildlife and not worth the money at all. You are not even allowed to stop your car!
