Careful if wild camping south of galton gate. We camped about 14 km south of gate, where the fence ends and there are a few scattered houses (we stayed about 1 km from the house) but was disturbed about 130 AM on a Sunday by a bunch of very drunk guys from the hobatere camp or conservancy (they proudly flashed the logo on the jacket). They kept talking in circles repeating themselves and in the end wanted food and money. We had to come down the rooftop tent at 2 AM to pass them some, and they still continued pestering us and went away eventually.

Price now is N$ 150 pp per day for foreigners (or n$ 100 SA, N$50 Namibians) + N$50 for the vehicle. Comes to N$ 350 per day.

Road however is being maintained and mostly in good condition.

They close at 5pm for entry, same as the shop where you might get a map.

Report Check-In

Like stated before but to be emphasized are the very corrugated road conditions throughout the whole park. To us this spoiled a lot of the fun visiting the park. We needed to focus on the road instead of the wildlife viewing. If you love your car you might consider a guided tour instead of a self drive.

Report Check-In

This gate is open and western part of the park is really beautiful, although the bad road conditions (very bumpy road). Impossible to get a map of the park here and you have to pay in cash, no card.

Report Check-In

We got to know from one officer, that in the 24h-permit there are always 2 hours extra for free, means you can stay 26 hours in the park. Checked this information with three other official people.
