Description

Very kind Ecuadorian owners, Juan y Juanito Elias. They're living in Riobamba but you can easily contact them via whatsapp: +593984784330. It's a nice quiet farm with cows, horses and 3 dogs. There is a flat green area for camping but also 3 double rooms for rent (in- and outside hot showers & toilet). They also have a huge secure area for camping and big campers in 5 min walking distance (bathroom planned). Juanito also can organize hiking and horse riding to different places like, for example, "El Altar".

Seems like a nice place. But it is not big rig friendly, we unfortunately damaged our roof when entering (3.5 meter tall truck camper). As there are many low hanging tree branches. We also couldn’t fit at the camp space next to the house because of the low hanging cables. So we received a very uneven spot. It was so uneven that our fridge stopped working and we had to leave. We asked for another spot, but it looks like they do not offer the big rig friendly spot (as someone below mentioned) anymore.

Nice place owned by a beautiful family with so much loving and caring for travelers. The hot showers were great, bathroom was super clean, you can connect your house to electricity power and internet was good. they offer a saloon with stove and tables for you to cook, have your meals, and work if you need to. Also provided a nice wood oven to keep us warm in there. We spent a week here with sr. Juan, Juanito, their lovely family and dogs. Felt right at home the whole time. Juanito took us to see the Chimborazo in a clear sky afternoon which is possible by a 5mins car drive. Paid $5 pp day.

Report Check-In

I am probably repeating what has been said over and over again - this place is wonderful and the friendliness of its owner is unique. You will feel genuinely welcome when you arrive - and you will get all the help and support you will need. There are very very few places like this in South America and I would argue even globally. They love overlanders and take pride in hosting them.

Report Check-In

It‘s a really good place! Nice peoble and gras on your ground. We really enjoyend to stay here! At evening you can stay in the shared room with a fire.

Report Check-In

What an awesome place! Owners are so kind and they provide everything you need. Indoor communal space is a museum to travelling the Pan-American Highway. There is an awesome story told about this place and the overlander mural on an Expedition Journal podcast with @beoldlater. Heard it a few years ago while preparing for our trip. Realized it was the same place while sitting at the picnic table looking at the mural. Ask the owners about it!

No one is wrong when saying that the Juanes are super friendly people and with the gift of service. the site is very comfortable, safe, quiet, we only stayed one night but it was worth it. We were 4 campers and space allows it. Recommended site for every traveler who is in Chimborazo, it is worth every dollar.

We contacted Juan while on the road a few hours away. He responded immediately via WhatsApp saying of course we could stay the night. What a great place to stay around Volcán Chimborazo. There’s room for a handful of rigs. No height restrictions. We drove our 158” wheelbase sprinter in with no problem. There was a Ford Transit there as well, owned by a wonderful Argentinian fellow. We stayed for one night, but we wish we had more time to explore the area around the volcano. Mountain biking and horse back riding. Juan is into mountain biking. Anyway, we had super hot showers, clean bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and a stove that we used to cook pasta for us and soup for the kids. We used our own plates and utensils, but I’m sure they would accommodate you with these things if needed! We just had our own from the camper. We used their pots and pans. The stove is in a larger room that is also a great hangout space with dining tables. Pictures of all the other travelers and friends line the walls. Very comfy hangout. $10 for our camper and us. They also have a washer and dryer to use! Juan and his family are so kind, really genuine, and we truly would have liked to stay had we not needed to push on to the coast. Thanks!

one of the best stops on our journey. juan and juan elias (father and son) welcomed us to their farm. they are both so amazingly friendly. juan showed us where to park to get the best wifi signal (fast wifi). he showed us the large comfortable common room for cooking, eating, getting web work done. the room is covered with his awesome photos of the area and all the rad overlanders that have visited. he mentioned he wanted a mural on a wall, so we decided to stay a few more days and paint a mural for them. the whole time they treated us like part of their family, they cooked for us, and we shared beers and wine day and night. several other travelers visited during the few days, all excellent people. such an enriching experience for lasting friendships. they are looking for more murals — juanito’s wife would love a mandala!!! so if you’re an artist and do that kind of thing, it’s an excellent canvas. hot showers (ask Dolores if you can’t get it working), beautiful organic vegetables, awesome farm with cows, chickens, geese and dogs. wonderful people, peaceful and amazing place.

The place is wonderfully quiet and very nice. We are standing on a small meadow next to the house, surrounded by flowers. In the house there is a large cozy lounge with a gas cooker. The owners are especially warm and helpful. When the Chiborazo is exceptionally cloudless, Juan comes and drives us to a lookout point. He takes us into the city, and because we have serious engine problems, he telephones with various workshops. We can highly recommend a stay. We came as guests and went as friends.

Great place to relax, message before arriving as they are sometimes in Riobamba. Highly recommended!!! we had a wonderful evening with the friendly owners Juan and his father. He took us to his favourite place to see the sunset at Chimborazo. This view will never forget. We tasted the fesh warm milk of his cows - wonderful. They love to welcome overlanders.

Report Check-In

As explained by everybody, Juan's family is a great host, which is one of the good reason to stay here but not the only one! Facilities are also perfect and clean. There is also a farm with many animals, including cows (To see the milking cows) and horses (Juan always ready to propose a walk to kids). But it is also very close to national park of Chimborazo: ideal to reach there for a day trip: much better to sleep here at 3200 meters, which is much less cold, and very helpfull to acclimatize for a walk to 5000 meters (absolutely necessary for kids!). Obviously, we also stayed longer than planned. ..

A safe, relaxed spot to stay with unmatched hospitality from the warmest, kindest family. They have a fantastic common room where you can relax.

What a warm and friendly family to stay! Juan and his parents are such nice people and we really loved staying here for 3 nights at the grass field next to the finca. From here it is really nice to make a daytrip to volcan Chimborazo and spend the night here again at a reasonable altitude. They really took care of us so well providing us with organic veggies from the garden and glasses of coca cola for our headaches after Chimborazo. The friendliest family we’ve met in Ecuador so far!

Awesome people, great place to stay. we stayed two nights using some veggies from their garden, hiking the nearby hills and cooking in the common room in the evening. Juan was so friendly he started the fire in the oven just for us on both evenings to get us warm. Great place! 15$per car per night.

This is a wonderful place for many reasons: the most important one is the family. They welcomed me with open arms and open hearts. I was treated like a member of their family. No trouble was too much . They spoilt me and were also most helpful when I had problems with my car. I got lots of information about the area and useful addresses.
Camping facilities are great: a flat space, a big room where you can spend rainy days or dark evenings, with a fridge and gas cooker, very clean bathrooms, hot showers, a place for washing clothes.
And if you don’t ‘t feel like cooking they offer nice food and drink.
And you can sleep in a very comfortable room .

These guys here are incredible gentle and helpful. The banos are clean, a good hot shower (let the warm water run for a minute, then it starts to be warm). Grassy plane ground for camping even for bigger rigs. They have a big "tourist salon" with a free four flame stove. Payed 15 USD pn for two people an a car.

Love this place and the people! We really felt at home staying here and it was so nice to have our own comfortable space to relax (and cook and WiFi) after months on the road cycling. The property is beautiful and the family is sooooo sweet! We planned to stay for one night but stayed for three. Also I recommend taking ‘via Flores’ from
Ambato to get here because it’s a beautiful quiet road that takes you right past Chimborazo and the views are amazing ;) Muchas gracias Juan!

Camped here for 3 nights - probably the nicest farm in South America! Lovely, friendly owners who repeatedly went out of their way to help us and make us feel welcome. Several great day hikes in the area with views of Volcán Chimborazo. Easy to get to by bus - just ask to be dropped off at the intersection and catch a local bus the last 5-6km up to San Juan. Loved it!

There’s so much to explore in the area—Chimborazo, biking, hiking, horseback riding, paragliding— Juanito is set up to get you on your way with whatever experience you’d like. This spot had a great kitchen/bathroom/shower setup, and all right on their little family farm! Even with their three dogs they accommodated our two dogs (one not so social) very well. We left feeling like family, and will definitely be back again one day!

What a lovely family!! We felt so welcome here, seriously this was by far the most lovely people we have met in our journey.

The camping is a grassy leveled area behind the main house. They have a little cabaña if you want to stay inside, with a oven for pizzas. The bathroom is clean and the shower is hot. They have a little room where you can wash your clothes or dishes if you want. When we were there they set up a little stove with gas so we could cook our meals. Very nice!
