Description

Laguna Antacocha is a popular place with climbers. There are several routes up the 250m wall. But it also offers plenty to non climbers: the view of the cordillera blanca is great. The lake is 30min up an easy dirt road where you're most likely going to be alone for the night. Camping here is tolerated and considered safe by local mountain guides/climbers.

What a nice place! We were there all alone on Sunday. The road is easy to drive for all vehicles. But it's a gravel road. There were a few dogs there but they were all lovely. Enjoy the silence!

And just to add, the dirt road up is fine for any vehicle. It's better then 3N even though it's dirt

You can use Organic Maps for the right route. Place is great. Spent 2 days here. Lots of space, very quiet, a few locals on the weekend but mostly have the place to yourself. Developed trails around, and great views. Some friendly stray dogs, no issues with our dog. Very minimal Claro service depending where you are. Highly recommend if you want some time alone.

To get here dont follow google maps. The road seems quite new so it isnt in maps. Just follow the laguna signs. When you are at the laguna you can decide if you want to camp at the laguna or with 4x4 you can climb the hill following the pachacampa-sign. Lots of hiking possibilities. Great views and super silent. One of our favorite camping spots!

Peaceful camping spot. Nice views of the snow-capped mountains. Super beautiful when they reflect off the lake in the morning. Warm during the day, but chilly when the sun drops. There is a structure up on the hill where a woman sometimes sells lunch plates for 5 sol - highly recommend trying it! The only issue we had was a wild dog (or coyote?) that came to our camp after dark. Every time we tried to shoo it away, it would sneak back over. This was a pain because we have our dog with us and didn’t want an interaction. Otherwise, awesome spot!

Oh and - Google maps won’t take you the correct way. Once you leave the main road to the gravel road you’ll get to a small village where the road splits. Keep left and follow the signs for the lake.

Peaceful stay at this laguna. The dirt road gets challenging/narrow at some spots but doable going slowly with 2fwd van. I wouldn't recommend when it rains. The water faucets don't work anymore and there's no pit toilet. Some small garbage around probably from the weekend. Didn't see any climbers on a Tuesday night.

Great area for coupe of nights, we spend a few hours around, have more time definitely stay for night. Very friendly locals

Gorgeous view. Very peaceful silent camp. 2 water faucets a short walk up the hill by the sign for "servicios higiénicos". Pit toilets. One of our favorite wild camps of the whole trip so far! Great rock climbing - bolts are a little old and rusted but are all there. (We only did the 4 pitch climb on the left side to the summit, and the 2 pitch climb in the center).

Great place with an absolutely beautiful view on the landscape.
Not so quiet on days off.
Climbing routes are good, although better have a 70m rope.

Great location right on the lake. 30 minutes on the good dirt road. Just pick a spot and park your rig. There is some good climbing here a short distance from the parking. The climbing routes are long and require at least a 70 meter rope or can even require the use of a double rope. Two ropes here is best. Beautiful views and very quite. Sunday can bring a local family or two, but just for the day. You will be all alone for the night. I have added the climbing route map and rating guide to the pictures, so check the pictures for climbing information. Fairly good Claro reception here.

We stayed 4 nights here. Very quiet and beautiful. Good for dogs also. The road is doable with any 2wd. We camped over the lake. Continue up from the South side of the lake and turn right to flat spot just behind the rocky hill (off road but easy). You can watch the climbers, lake and beautiful Cordillera Blanca. Sprinter 4x4.
