Description

This seems to be a closed campground and picnic area. Nice trails with info signs. Grills. Palapas. But the lagoon has held more water than planned so you cannot drive to all the areas. Still there are flat places to park and the ocean is beautiful here. Birdwatching opportunities abound. Burrowing owls. Rabbits. Etc.

There is a surf guide book for Baja that describes the area from Colonet to san Quintin as very dangerous. As the us and the bus mentioned. It says no problems ever if you stay in a secure place like in front of the ship wreck. It’s only $5 a night.

Warning: this stretch of coastline is notorious for robberies / sexual assaults on campers in the middle of the night. You will be fine at any open campgrounds / cuatro casas hostel area, but wild camping in this area is very dangerous. Meth is a bad problem in this region and the average income of these rock pickers/farmers is like $10-$15 a day, you are asking for it wild camping in these spots.

This place is empty. No one in charge. Only men picking up rocks from the beach. We didn't stay.

Cool spot as described. There is an old man that came out and stared at us the whole time we were there though. I waved four times. When we left though we did notice the smell of skunk and a fenced-in area.

We stayed here for one night. We could not really reach the Palapas, as the area is a bit flooded right now ;) However, there are plenty of flat spots around. It was a little smelly right at the ocean, but a little further in, it was absolutely nice. No one bothered us, some workers drove by.

Looks like official campground, but there was nobody there when we visited and stayed. Nobody who would collect money as well, so we are not entirely sure about the cost - possibly due the offseason. Nice sunrise. Nothing fancy, but the camp if 10m/30ft from ocean ;)
