If you are ok paying 35usd for gravel area with no services called Base camp (but nice views), well, ok.
But if you believe you are supporting local community (you mean those hunting inside NP?, or those living around with landfill on their properties and stone age huts?) then you are not. You are only supporting one camp owner and showing him there is absolutely no need for any improvements since people are happy to pay any money for nothing and will even thank him for that.
The owner is so arrogant and explained to us that this is the most beautiful campgroun in Alaska, well, no comment.

The price is steadily increasing since 2019 and what has changed in the campground? What services were added? None. That tells you all.

Btw attached you can see picture of "no camping sign" that is a bit further behind the free parking at visitor info. You can see it is only valid between april and october, exactly when the campgrounds are open! What a coincidence?! So the wildcamping itself is not the problem, but not giving money to campboss is! Lool.

We prefer to stay at the rest area covered in "no camping signs" likely installed by forestry employes after campground owners begging since this places offer more than the campground actually does. (trash bins, clean toilet, picnic table). The visitor parking was also great for night. And we also added few wildcamps from other nights.

Paid USD10 for 24h in the parking lot. We slept in the car and had no problems.

Price is now $35/night. Road is in great shape right now. I drove in a P/U towing. 25' trailer. No problem. Road gets worse as the summer goes on. Well water for campers is available for filling jugs. Told to boil it before drinking because it's not "certified" safe, but locals drink it with no issues.

just paid the $10 for 24hr parking in lot abs stayed in vehicle, plenty of others doing the same, either way Mcarthy and Kenecott are well worth the price of admission

Here is the end of the road, we left the van parked and paid $ 10.00 the day. We Spent The Bridge and Picked Up The Free Van That Takes You to Kennecott Where It has a Mine and Where the Trail Begins for the Glacier. Arriving there, it's 3km to get to the glacier if you have ice staples taking it. The place is beautiful and one of the few glaciers that are free to meet in alaska.

We stayed here one night since there is no other option. At the free parking lot (about 15m walk away from the camp) there are multiple “no camping” sings, and even though there is an ioverlander place registered for that spot, I don’t think locals would be too happy for campers to stay there.
No services at this camp, very uneven, and can ger crowded.
On the other hand the view is beautiful and you are walking distance away from Mccarthy.

McCarthy and Kennicott are amazing and this place has great views. But it’s really just at-large camping. We had a great spot on the north side near the teepee and loved it. But one outhouse for 40+ weekend rigs for $30? We stayed 3 nights but skipped a payment- just couldn’t stomach it.

Report Check-In

Honestly we liked the spot. Yes it’s extremely overpriced ($30/night) but the place is huge and the views are beautiful. You can camp south of the road in the woods or by the river or north of the parking lot facing the glacier. You can go really far (north of the teepee) if you have 4wd. It’s conveniently located to go visit McCarty, the mine and the glacier. I hope the money goes back to the community but I am not sure. We stayed two nights but would have loved staying more if it was less expensive. The pit toilets are awful. Come prepared.

It's a ripoff, IMO. You pay $30 to park an RV in a rock laden field with nothing but a glacier view. Doesn't even have a trash bin. You can dry camp a little up the road in one of several places but then when you drive to the footbridge, they charge you $10 to park a car. Sooooo....they took me for $90.

The place is open. I am there now. $30 tent or RV. It’s really not a campground as much as a dirt road around which you may camp. No amenities. A far away outhouse is all you get. The view of the glacier is pretty cool. No mosquitoes! But other bugs abound. You get only a place to park your camper for the money nothing else. Pretty expensive racket they have going here. Oh and no dumpsters either…!

Report Check-In

There is no free parking after the National Park information site. This parking says no overnight parking. Few miles before this, there is a rest stop but this also says no overnight parking. My suggestion, come the morning you want to explore and day park at the information site. It's still a walk to get to the pedestrian bridge, but better than paying (if you are able bodied) since there is no way to actually drive to McCarthy.

Report Check-In

$30 per night now if you stay/camp with your vehicle. it's in a pretty area, but very uneven ground and hard to level up in some spots. Very few pit toilets dotted around the site, otherwise no facilities (no showers, no plug in, no camp tables or bbq pits etc). Pretty bad value for the money, but no real other choice nearby. The (relatively) flat area with marked-out spaces was reserved for unoccupied overnight parking (ie those leaving vehicles whilst going off on multi-day hikes) cost $10. Not very friendly or helpful staff.

30 $ per site, you can share the cost if your vehicles/RVs fit into one site. We liked the scenery directly at the river. Short walk into "town", good restaurants, nice atmosphere. Live music and events mostly on weekends.

Report Check-In

At the moment it’s closedown, but somebody told us, it has just been sold, so maybe it will open again.

Report Check-In

I believe this is closed right now, but am unsure if it's a seasonal closure or permanent.
