Namibia
Close to, but not inside the Fish River Canyon National Park (20mins drive). Sites have some shade, Braais, light, water taps and several electric outlets. the tap water is drinkable. Nice lodge with rooms is part of this place. Pool, bar, restaurant, ATM, and gas station. Wifi at the bar is slow, but reliable. Bathrooms in camping area were spotless.
Now N$285 pppn (Feb. 2023)
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Just add that they have a 4x4 drive Garas self drive 35 km to the canyon Lodge , you can see ostrichs, oryx, mountain zebra, springbok, giraf. Lots of quivertrees. There are 2 places for wild camping, but you have to pay at the reception don’t know how much. Entrance is 100 ns pp and 150 ns for the car.
Report Check-Innot bad if you're looking for an overnight stop en route to fish river canyon. pleasant restaurant with fun old car theme.
Report Check-Incheapest campsite is 225. Neither their pricing board nor somebody from the staff has the intention to share this. Bear this in mind. Ask for the sites 13-15
Report Check-InNice campsite with clean bathrooms and hot water. The restaurant has good food and a fun vibe with all the old cars and signage. Staff were friendly. Our campsite had a lapa but not all of them have shade. About R290 per person
Report Check-InVery nice level campsites, a few with shade trees. Own braai, tap and electricity. Very clean ablutions. Fantastic restaurant and bar with a small shop.
Report Check-Ingreat camp! pay 290pp, shade, showers good, everything we'll manteinad and clean.
Report Check-InBeautiful spacious campsite. Clean ablusions. Very nice people. Good restaurant.
Report Check-InExpensive at $270 ND per person but extremely convenient for an early morning or late in the day visit to Fish River Canyon. Really well designed and clean ablutions with hot water showers, laundry and kitchen sinks. We camped at the end of the road and were visited by a mountain zebra at night. MTN intermittent but decent wifi at the restaurant.
Report Check-InNice campsite and clean ablutions, but definitely don't worth the 590$ we paid for 2 people. They know you don't have the choice because you are in a national park and wildcamping is prohibited.
Report Check-InWe liked the open aspect of this campsite. Otherwise as stated re ablutions etc.. Nice quiet place to relax for a few days or as overnight stop.
Report Check-InWe paid N$334-00 for the 2 of us with a Gondwana Card. Otherwise it would have been quite pricey. Cannot remember. Most sites have good shade, braai with light, tap and ablutions very close. 2 @ 3 sites to an ablution block.
Report Check-Incamped here for 2 nights. each campsites is far enough from each other. electrical points available at each site. bathrooms are shared ablutions, but are unbelievably clean and well maintained. wood can be bought from the hotel. great place used it a base for visiting surrounding areas. fuel is available diesel and unleaded petrol
Report Check-InWe liked the campsite a lot. Everything is clean and well organized and well maintained. Water and barbecues at every place. For BigRig, the stone-demarcated access roads are a bit narrow, but doable. Still, the price is definitely too high at N $ 287 per person per night.
Report Check-InBig camping places with a big tree for shade. Light, electricity, water and braai. shared ablution with nice and hot showers. We had a lot of wind, which was a bit chilly, ended up having some drinks at the restaurant, staff very nice.
Report Check-InPrice for camping is N$273pppn, but with a Gondwana Card there is a discount of 40% for SA citizens making it quite affordable. Namibian citizens get 50% off. Gondwana Card really worth it if you are touring Namibia extensively as the discounts at all their lodges more than covers the up-front cost.
Report Check-InThe Canyon Roadhouse is the perfect place to launch yourself to the Fish River Canyon. It's funky and fun and well worth the NAD 273ppp n. Try and order from the Mini menu. we ordered burgers for kids for NAD 55 and they were the same size as the adult burgers (NAD 140)... The only difference is the mushroom and bacon topping...
Report Check-Innow it's 275 N$ p.P.! Very unique place but for frequent travellers during Coronatime and empty Campground too expensive!
Report Check-InWe were not very enthusiastic about this place. Yes the swimming pool is nice but it's quite expensive $N271 p.p.p.n. and ablutions and campsite are not special at all, we have seen a lot nicer campsites for this price. There is WiFi at the restaurant.
Report Check-InAll said before. Still very nice and clean campsite and facilities. Very cool bar. Electricity and shade at the campsites. Watch out for schakals, so they don't steal the shoes you leave in front of your tent.
Maybe too expensive for what you get.
nice place with big, shady pitches with electricity, water and a braai-station
big & clean ablutions
bar, restaurant, pool
100mb wifi per device a day, for more you have to pay
only negativ thing: unfriendly staff
Of course you will find cold beer, charismatic decor and wild oryx wandering through your camp - it is best place to camp in Southern Namibia.
Jump in the pool and splash everyone in sight - enjoy yourself here with no care in the world other than what you’re drinking next and how to stumble back to your campsite!!!
lovely spot - short drive to Fish River Canyon (20mins). The campsite is very spacious with large clean and well equipped ablutions (more than one block). we were at campsite 2 which is super close to the pool, and a short walk to the restaurant which is full of vintage cars - v cool! dstv too for the sports fans :)
campsites each have water, light (but no charging socket unless i missed it!), braai, rubbish bin. 215 $ pppn. staff friendly and nice atmosphere. we stayed 2 nights but i could envision staying more. some nice birds in the trees in the campsite too!
Report Check-InPlace is an institution and you should stop, even if for just a coffee. Food is ok!! Campground is fairly exposed, but there are shaded spots. Nice pool and good ablutions.
Report Check-InA pretty groovy place with funk-so-brother decor with touch of spice. If you get a campsite along the river bed, they are private and spacious and lovely. Great ablutions with hot water and a nice kitchen area.
Would definitely recommend this place - super clean super fun and just super!!!!
Nice place and freezing swimming pool :) Actually if you take a spot without shade (campsite 13, 14 and 15), which during the namibian "winter" or if you arrive late are not bad at all, the price is 145 ppn.
Report Check-InThere are 11 campsites. We were on campsite 10 which has its own small house for shade. Each site has power, water and lights. Campsites are huge and you think you are there by yourself. There are many ablutions buildings, which were very clean and comfortable. We saw nobody at our ablution block even when the place was fully booked. The pool can be bigger (or an extra pool), considering the size of the campsite + rooms. Food is nice. Internet is very slow and not suitable if you want to do more than check your whatsapp. Price is 215 N$ pppn. In our view very good value for money.
Report Check-InNice campsite (nr4) lots off shade. Nice pool and good food in the restaurant. Very special place you must have a one night stopover!
Report Check-InI think everything has been said. My main summary...
Positives - has all the facilities you need from a campsite & close to the National Park.
Negatives - staff unfriendly & it's quite expensive.
(Caveat - actually the first two members of staff at reception and the bar were quite unfriendly, but the campsite attendants and later Marius at the bar was nicer).
Now N$215 pppn.
Report Check-InDefinitely worth a stop even if it's just to look at the old cars and the memorabilia in the restaurant
Report Check-InAs mentioned by others, a quirky stop in the middle of nowhere, great food though after weeks of cooking myself and a cold drink is hard to find in this region so I really enjoyed the stopover before looking for a place to camp wild closeby which was easily found within 10 min driving east. Wifi is free for 30min only and ok to check whatsapp but don’t try send pictures or upload a website, its too slow.
Report Check-InNice and spacious campground, 190 pp. 12 very large sites with trees, braai and tap water. 4 ablution blocks. Really nice pool area with sun beds and tables under the shade. We preferred this campsite to Hobas and /Ai-/Ais. The roadhouse with the many nice old cars, advertising boards and car related antiquities is lovingly made with loads to look at. We had nice waitresses and also no music. The food was really good and much better than we had elsewhere (e.g. real camembert on the burger instead of a slice of processed cheese).
Report Check-InThis place is definitely going for the American route 66 style roadhouse/diner theme. They definitely nailed it on the rude staff, terrible music, over-the-top capitalism and kitchy/tacky souvenir crap everywhere. Sorry, but it's not my taste.
Fortunately, once you go out back to the campsite it's quiet and peaceful (there were oryx wandering around at night and in the morning). Pitches are well spaced, light/electricity/tap/braai at each, ablutions are lovely, and there are some walking trails you can explore. N$175 pp.
Report Check-InVery crazy location in the middle of nowhere ! This place is a must !! The Food in the restaurant was delicious and the whole Place is decorated with much fancy stuff, old cars in- and outside. Ablution was good, WiFi very slow, but that was not so important, we just enjoyed the silence at night - Thumbs up !
Report Check-InPrice is now 175N$, only a little bit of shade of a small tree at the campsite, pool is really nice and always cold though. The wifi works but slow. Restaurant in comparison with the camping price quiet cheap. I really enjoyed the decoration and all the old cars
Report Check-InWe stayed here a night on route to FRC. The stars are spectacular! You cannot see such good stars at Ai-Ais as there are too many lights. The food at the restaurant was very good, I recommend the game wrap. Bathrooms were clean and we had a jackal walk through our camp. Wifi in the restaurant but I never tried it. Worthwhile place to stop, even if just to eat. Showers are great and hot, braai at every camp with electricity and water.
Report Check-InPaid N$160pp/pn. As stated prior, shade trees, spotless ablutions, good but not great restaurant. Camping is a good option here as the rooms are way overpriced.
Report Check-Indesert-campsite in a fancy roadhousestyle, close to the fish river canyon, nice ablutionblocks, braai, pool, good restaurant, shop, free wifi, 150 n$/pp.
Report Check-InClose to, but not inside the fish river canyon national park. Sites have some shade, Braais, water taps and several electric outlets. Nice lodge with rooms is part of this place. Has a pool, bar, restaurant, ATM, and gas station. Wifi at the bar is slow, but reliable. Bathrooms in camping area were spotless. We paid R150 per person per night.
Report Check-InHad a nice lunch stop over here. Very uniquely decorated place with a lot of old vehicles, quiver trees and old signs.
