Perfect quiet spot steps from a lovely beach. I parked in a little pull-out just past the cemetery “parking lot” but before the dirt road turns to sand. Agree you probably don’t want to venture down into the sandy area unless you have 4wd. There’s a sign on a tree with a number to call if you’re stuck on the beach, and a mechanic I spoke to in Massett said it happens several times a week.
If you have an appropriate vehicle there are several treed alcoves tucked away in the bush leading up to the beach that you could set up in. Some locals were camped in one and were having a fire. They told me you can get away with tenting right on the beach too. If you walk to your left once you get on the beach a few 100m there are a couple spots near the tree line that offer some protection from the wind that would be ideal. Lots of driftwood for a fire.
Report Check-InI wouldn't recommend going past the parking lot unless you have 4X4 because its soft sand. Found some agates on the beach. Super cute cemetary. Walking paths in the woods.
Report Check-InSuper quiet. Cemetery is super interesting. Don’t forget to turn off all your vehicle lights and ancillary’s so that you have enough battery power to start your car and make your ferry booking. Your fellow campers are not super happy about being woken up at 5:30am to help you out because you forgot.
Report Check-InAs others suggest it is one of the best spots I've ever stayed in. It is safe across from cemetery. However, if you venture down you may need 4x4. I got stuck in sand but locals are very friendly and towed me out.
Report Check-InOne of my favourite places to camp on the island. Parked & camped at the end of the road on the beach. Some people came by in the evening to go for a walk or drive down the beach. A bit noisy but worth it for the sunrise!! A couple scattered campfires with 4x4 trails around the woods, could also park in there for more cover. No facilities, good for dogs!
Report Check-InNice quiet spot. We parked at the wildlife viewing area before the end of the road. Saw eagles, a sand hill crane and deer. Garbage container nearby.
