Namibia
Belgian Vital runs this campsite where overlanders with foreign number plates can stay for free, pool, free fast wifi, great bar, lovely staff, clean and good ablution, electricity on site. Camping spots are small, but big enough for big rigs. Just right next to each other, with no view.
Great place if you are looking for an overland community.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
I'm here right now having diner with te lovely owners Vital en Marian. I can absolutely recommend going on the quadbike, we've seen springbok and 5 giraffe. It was amazing. One of the highlights of the trip
Report Check-InWhat a lovely place! Still free for overlanders if you use the bar/restaurant. Really good and fast wifi at the pool / restaurant area. If you manage to drink a bottle of Jägermeister, you can label the bottle and immortalise yourself in the bar. Also other challenge: if 2 persons manage to eat a 61 cm diameter Partypizza it’s free of charge (otherwise 50€). Food is good, Pizzas have lots of fresh toppings, nice burgers and salads, well spiced, but it’s not the absolute worlds best :) Really funny and nice staff. GO HERE!
Report Check-InStayed one night here and would definitely stay more if needed.
Still free for long time travel overlanders. Our licence plate is Mozambican and we were still provided free camping, since we are for one year on the road now. They only ask you to at least eat something in the restaurant, which seemed tottaly fair.
Lovely place, very cozy, pool available, free fast wifi.
You can get to see porcupine there.
Report Check-InStill free for overlanders. Clean ablutions, nice animals, good food & baverages
Report Check-Instill true, we camped there for free while consuming food and drink. clean and nickel wifi
Report Check-InA campsite with many but often controversial comments!
Our experience for our stay of two nights:
- well maintained, nicely laid out, all one needs is there in very good quality
- No camping fees for overlander with overseas number plates … a generous offer … and returning this favour by means of a consumption at the bar/restaurant and with that paying for the camping infrastructure provided and consumed sounds to us like a fair deal.
- Security: we had no issues during our stay, but on the back of comments made, we always locked up everything when we were not near our vehicle; at night a security guard was present
- Noise: it was dead quiet during the night (apart from barking dogs in the far distance) and very quiet during the day … but our stay was not over a weekend and it was (very) low season (maybe one or two other camper)
- Very friendly and welcoming staff and owners Vital and Marian, all very professional yet still charming and hospitable
- Highlight: the sundowner quad bike ride!
To summarise: we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would anytime come again.
spacious and sheltered location
but a lot of noise beyond their control (music from the village bar + work in the morning).
nice walk on the site and we also recommend the rock engravings site.
we also tested the Ann's lodge a few kilometers away and just for one night we preferred the ann's lodge: better value for money.
Oppi-Koppi is NOT REALLY FREE for long-term overlanders with non-African license plates. There is no camping fee, but you are expected to eat at the restaurant.
Report Check-Infree for abroad cars!!! amazing place. we stayed for free 4 nights with shelter, water tap, electricty, guardian, lights, table, braï, hot and clean showers, free wifi in the bar/restaurant/pool, swimming pool, one ostrich in the park, lovely 2,5 kilometers hiking trail in the property ... friendly staff who asks only a picture to be in the overlanders book !!! incredible to relax and chill.
Report Check-InStill free for overlanders unlike previous post. For 'regular' tourists indeed 200pppn. Really nice place!! Also do laundry, 200 for a load
Report Check-Inlovely campsite! we loved it, friendly owner and lovely staff. very good and delicious food at the restaurant. very nice hot shower, and clean ablution and proper campsite with shaded area. this camp is an absolute must. and it is for free for international travelers.
Report Check-InSo great to back here 9 years after our long trip all around Africa! Very friendly staff, nice bar and restaurant, swimming pool and good showers. Good WiFi at the reception and restaurant. Water+sink and electricity together with a little table under a shelter for shade at every site. Funny ostrich that likes to dance whenever you pass by. And all that…still totally for free for all overlanders with their own vehicle! Perfect place to meet other overlanders. Big thanks to Belgian owner Vital & family for the unseen hospitality to all overlanders in Africa!
Report Check-InThe owner still welcomes over landers with a complimentary campsite. Let’s all support him by using his restaurant and bar. Beautiful facilities and incredibly friendly staff.
Report Check-InNOT FREE. I was asked for 200pppn (in my foreign vehicle) for camping.
Said no thanks, cheaper places around and walked out.
Amazing place to stay for overlanders. Don’t know what to add what’s not already written before.
Lovely owners. Wifi fast. Ablutions one of the best. Campsite awesome. Food delicious. Beware of snakes! We encountered two during our stay.
Report Check-InFREE FOR OVERLANDERS!! Seriously, we stayed for free. Super nice people, the staff is very welcoming. The pool is refreshing and the Wi-Fi is fast. Great place to stay if you’re entering the park at the Gibson gate. I highly recommend this place, not just because it’s free. Make sure you include a small donation to the place for letting you stay! (I mean really, who does free anymore??)
Report Check-InVery nice place. Campsite is still for free for overlanders. Food is good and pool is nice and clean.
Report Check-InWe were here as 'normal' campers between only overlanders. Small camping spots but with good facilities. Places are very close to each other so you here everything. Camping is close to the road in town and I think something like a bar in town cause there was voices and music during the night. Pool area looks nice. Wifi fast. Restaurant good atmosphere, everyone is eating there so I guess it can't be so bad, cappuccino was good.
Not our campsite cause we like the feeling of being alone with a nice view. If you want to meet some overlanders this is your place to be.
We arrived at sunset After 10 Hours of driving.
This ist like a oasis in desert. In Night ist was absolutly calm. Swimmingpool was clean. We did. Not use the Restaurant because we had to eat all the meat we had to cook at the veterinär check Point 😂😂. We paid 200pppn.
This is the best Point if you Need some luxury After a lot of Afrika 👌
Great place to stay with welcoming and helpful owners. Delicious food (game fillet), good coffee and pool to cool down in. Shaded areas with sink and power at each campsite. Clean ablutions.
And yes free for overlanders. But probably good to support them by having a meal or a few drinks.
We stayed for 2 days. Campsite is neat and well run as described below. Restaurant and pool area with free WiFi and lots of hornbills. Vital and his wife were really friendly and helpful
Report Check-InVery clean campsites. Ablutions clean. Very quiet. Overlander trucks stay for free. Nice pub. Good food. Big rig friendly.
Report Check-InIn spite of Corona everything still the same. Free for overlander, good food, fast WiFi.... not issues.
Report Check-InVery Nice place to stay and to recover a bit from all the dusty roads. Haven't met the owners as they went back home for a holiday but the manager is a really nice guy! Knows a lot about the area.
Report Check-InGreat place to stay! Lovely people.
Our expedition comes to an end after 1,5 year exploring Africa.
Just to be sure, that nobody miss this beautiful oppertunity.
We have a 40 ft container, with 2 overland bikes, 1 overland vehicle.
We are looking for the last passenger, -> one overland vehicle/car.
This is a great oppertunity because this would be the cheapest option to ship your car, because we share a big container.
Does somebody have plans to ship their car from Cape Town to Montevideo?
Shipping date: Oktober 2019
Arrival date: first week of December 2019
We will ship Marty (our Landcruiser) with Duncan, owner of African Overlanders.
He will arrange everything.
It would be great if we can share !
Please contact Duncan or us for more information.
Chris & Inge
Report Check-InLively location, great facilities, free for foreign over landers ... it seems churlish to complain but as I spent more than the equivalent eating and drinking I feel I can say ... this is the rudest campsite I have been to. The staff are lovely but the owners and manager clearly have no interest in guests if they assume you don't speak Afrikaans ... which unbeknownst to them I do!
It is also apparent that their security issue is not resolved, I'm not surprised as there is no security or gate, I overheard the owner saying ,(in Afrikaans) that a few days prior someone had tried to break into a cottage! So take a stop here but be secure.
Referring to the comment of the attempt for robbery on 12 January. We just spoke to Vital the owner and asked him about this. He acknowledged the event and claims that the robbers have been caught a few days later and are still imprisoned. We felt perfectly safe here. Really nice campground.
Report Check-InGreat Campsite with friendly people. They offer free camping for Overlanders. No issues with security on my visit.
Report Check-InNot much to ad, stayed two nights, great pizza, pool and spacious campsites!
Were on foreig licenseplates so thanks for the free stay’s!!
Nice campground. Internet was slow - no big deal mobile cell was faster. Nice 2.5 km hike.
Report Check-InIt is still a nice place with very good good, but....
During the night 2 people went into a French Camper van at Site 2. They could kick them out.
We did not hear that at site 7.
1/2 an hour later they came into our car while we were awake!!!!!
We had to fight to bring them out . We made lots of nice with a Sirene and a working blink light. They were still outside. No night watchman at Oppi Koppi and the owners did not here anything. At the end 2 other campers came to help us and the blacks went finally away.
This was a very frightened experience. The police next day was not very intetested in. So be very careful even at campsites
Nice campsite, very well equipped: roof over table and bench, water and electricity connection in each spot. Clean bathrooms, quite warm water. Restaurant pretty big, pizza 5 times thicker than the Italian- after two slices you are full, but tasty. We have waited 1.5 h for our meal. In the night loud cause there was party at the bar even if we were quite far from the restaurant.
Report Check-Ingreat place. nice campsite and restaurant with the best pizzas since we have left europe. free for overlanders
Report Check-InPleasant place. Free for overlanders. (150pp)The Employees are very kind. The village has no interest. Just a rest campsite before to go somewhere else. Not a lot of shadow. But is there here on this part of Namibia?
Report Check-InAwesome very good priced ,food excellent ,staff friendly thank you
Report Check-InGreat overnight lodge, the camping sites are very neat and comfortable and we watched the porcupines come out at night to enjoy their snack. Wifi good around the bar area
Report Check-InAll as stated below. Great place and free for Overlanders with foreign number plate. Sandy campspots with kitchen block and braai. Free descent wifi and nice pool. Abolutions are clean, but hot water is gone at the end of the day. The food in the restaurant is average and could be improved.
Owners and management are friendly and helpful.
Report Check-InGreat camp ground. Still free for overlanders with foreign number plates. We had a nice rest here over Easter and we stayed all 3 nights for free! Pool and bathrooms are great and clean. We loved that almost every campsite has its own little kitchen with sink and everything. Free wifi, braai, wood for sale for 30N$, but you can also bring your own. Nice and cheap restaurant- try the rump steak! Burgers are also ok. We will definitely come back!
Report Check-InVital and his team is really very good. The whole place is more then clean, feeling like home! Very good meals for small prices. If you are an overlander more then 3 months on the road and with foreign car plate, it’s free to camp, otherwise it’s 150nad pppn which seams more then fair.
Report Check-InTh campground is ok, some are better than others, the pool, the bar and the surroundings are great. Unfortunately the boss and his partner where really unfriendly, we had the bad feeling to not be welcome at that place. The price was 150 pppn. We were friendly and happy to discover that place but the people where seemed annoyed.
Report Check-InStill free for foreign vehicles, so I wouldn’t complain even if there was something to complain about. Luckily there isn’t anyways, ablutions are great, campsites are well-equipped with light, braai place, electricity etc, pool, bar and restaurant all looked great, wifi available. A word of advice: Try the Pizza Challenge in the Restaurant. It’s a 60cm pizza and if 2 people finish it in below one hour, it‘s free. Margarita works best ;)
Report Check-Infantastic place. free for overlanders. great restaurant and bar, nice pool area.
Report Check-Inone of the greatest places we stayed on our 4 months long trip.
Report Check-InGreat place with nice athmosphere. The owners are really cool couple and the staff is very nice as well.
Report Check-Ingreat place. everything as good as described.
i was supposed to stay one night but at the end I stayed one night more.
Report Check-In110 pppn if you are not overlander.
warm showers. beautiful pool, bar, restaurant. on each pitch, braai, roof, table and chairs, water. good stop.
Keep your stuff well locked up, reports of theft. Very nice place!
Report Check-InFantastic place!! Great if you are in a non-African registered vehicle as they offer free camping. It really is a nice place with a good bar and basic food restaurant, the pizza are huge and great value. Due to an issue with our truck, made worse by local garage we ended up staying for 9 nights (all free of camping charge). Even using the restaurant and bar more than we usually would have, it was still very cheap! Nice 2.5km walk out the back of the campsite. Yes the ablutions are small but despite it being very busy some days this wasn't an issue for us. This is the best option in Kamanjab.
Report Check-InWe had a very warm welcome. We were allowed to stay for free for 2 nights and a 3rd night was not a problem. We ate some pizza, which was oke and had a few beers. Very reasonable priced restaurant and the campsites are really nice.
Report Check-InThe gave us a warm welcome too. Campsite was perfect for us. Free Wifi, nice Bar. We ate in the Restaurant, unfortunately it was not so tasty (Burger okay, Pizza not so good). However, it's just awesome that they let you stay at this great Place for free.
Report Check-InIt's hard to be critical of a campsite when you can camp for free, but there is very little to criticise over in the first place as this is just a great campsite! Friendly reception, great pitches, clean ablutions (though the showers could use some restoration). The sheltered kitchen areas with potable water from the taps and poweroutlets are great! Very quiet at night. I was warned on arrival there have been some reports on stolen cameras etc. from cars, so always lock it when you are away. Restaurant is atmospheric and friendly. Cheap food and large quantities but not very tasty.
Oppi-koppi is for sale so who knows how long this great place stays for free for overlanders?!
Friendly with plenty of facilities. Wash and toilet block was too small and crowded even with camp only half full. Everything clean. Found a local asleep in our camp when we got up in the night (campsite 7) but he hurried off - bit disconcerting but no harm intended. Some Friday night bar music in distance but didn't keep us awake. Animals roam through low fence. Can make short hike direct from camp
Report Check-InOne of the best campsites we have stayed at. Overlanders still stay for free, cheap restaurant and great food. Wanted to stay longer
Report Check-InReally lovely respite! some sites have kitchen area some don't - we have opted for no kitchen as more private and abolition block not really far enough away to change our minds.
Report Check-InAwesome place for Overlanders. Lovely set up with nice pitches, HOT! showers, food is really good! The bar is a dangerous place to be, as it leads to crazy hangovers in the morning. Great place, great people... And FREE camping! A definite must!
Report Check-InFamous with overlanders. Sandy terrain with large pitches between cottages. Well maintained ablutions. Overlanders stay for free. Run by Belgian couple, former overlanders. Short walking distance from village.
Report Check-InThe perfect resting place after discovering Northwest Namibia! Good vibes, wifi, swimming pool and a great pitch at the campsite for free (for foreign overland vehicles that is). And the food is good and not expensive. We will be back!
Report Check-InWent there again and it's still free for overlanders and everything else is as stated earlier, had to sleep two nights in one of the airconditioned bungalows due to illness which are really nice as well but of course a bit pricy
Report Check-InBelgian Vital runs this awesome campsite where overlanders with foreign number plates can stay for free, pool, free wifi, great bar, lovely staff, electricity, great and cheap restaurant, cheap meat market just down the road, perfect place to rest and recover
Report Check-InGreat place to stop over. Good ablutions; bar and restaurant; character ostriches wander around bar area and porcupine visits at night time. Free wifi.
Cost:excellent rate for non African reg vehicles
Report Check-InPower, water, free wifi, swimming pool, restaurant and bar, a place to do dishes, nice toilet and shower facilities. Nice and relaxing place.
80 per person or FREE with a non African registered vehicle.
