NOTE SOAT insurance no longer available as all vehicles are covered by a new system funded from registration payments. Info is that foreign cars are covered at no cost. As of August 2015, no separate insurance is available.
Possible to purchase SOAT insurance for Ecuador here. They only sell in 12 month increments, short term not available. Requires copy of import document from aduana, title, and passport. Cost was $55 for a 2001 ford van.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
They told me the same, but at the border they said that vehicle insurance was not included. A local told me that personal insurance is included but if the police come to an accident both parties go to jail regardless of fault and you have to get a lawyer to resolve the issue, so it is normal to agree costs between parties and pay cash!
