Description

Deleted. No problems at this location. Not necessary to add all checkpoints. We stopped for a Police Control, before the toll station, the first thing the Officer said, that we drove without light (of course we did not), I showed him the light switch ON, but he didn't care! After we showed him every single document we had, he started with a new problem, the red/white reflectors! So we said that they are in the back and the sides are not necessary, like the customs at the Border told us (anyway the Policecar had no sticker at all!!!). After that he checked the lights in the rear and came back with still the Light ON issue, so after 10 times saying we drive everytime with light, he walked to his colleague. The other cop came and let us drive after 10min stupidness!
We heard about that issue before so be careful here and at the Panamericana, Cops do the same show there! Keep an eye on your light switch or cover it, don't turn the engine off-the lights will go off as well, Don't get out of the car, it's a law that this is not necessary! Good Luck and safe travels!

No probleme here. Police officer was very nice. He asked if we have seen accident on the road and gave us traffic informations for our road.

Report Check-In

We were pulled over right after the toll booth(heading East). After showing all of our documents (licence, TIP, and insurance) we were told that the tinting on our rear windows is an infraction and that we need reflective tape on the sides. The police officer showed us the rule book with the fee of S340...then he walked away...then said we could pay the minimum of S55 here. We asked for the ticket and said we'd pay the fee at the police station or our embassy in Cusco. We were stopped for about 10 minutes. In the end we paid no fee and were not given a ticket.

Report Check-In

no police of any kind at this spot for us. no other checkpoints anywhere for several hours.

Report Check-In

I got stopped for passing a bus at a speed bump at a double yellow line (as if anybody here paid attention at anything painted on the road here). I was polite, chatted, thanked him. He said it’s an infraction and he will have to write me a ticket. None of us ever mentioned money. I waited patiently. He came back a few times checking my documents and telling me about the ticket, but never mentioned an amount. Of course I would never ask, just waited for the ticket. Never questioned the infraction nor admitted guilt. Eventually he gave me back my documents and told me to drive on and be careful.

Not sure how it goes when others pay bribes. My third time stopped in Peru but the Police never were the first to mention money, so I never had to pay. I would never pay anything other than an official ticket at a police station, so I never paid anything.

Please don’t support the bribery system and it will save you and everybody else on the road money and time.

Report Check-In
