Description

Place is now 20sol for 2ppl for the museum.

A rustic campground in Tinajani Canyon. Basic amenities, but the price is whatever you volunteer (we paid 10S for a night). Very quiet and great views of the canyon. Worth a visit.

UNREAL PLACE
The road is super smooth and flat from Ayaviri
Vicente the owner is super nice, we paid 20 soles for two of us and he let us park/camp next to the museum. No the museum is nothing special but the circuits he and/or the local people have constructed make the 20 soles you pay seem cheap. The entire canyon is from another planet. If you have a sunny day swim in the river it is incredible.

Report Check-In

We stayed here 2 nights and we paid 30 soles per night for 2 people in a van. The owner was nice, shows us the museum very proudly. The shower and toilet are quite good, hot water also outside in the sink. Beautiful landscape and very quiet. Dogs, horses, lamas and cows on the property. We hiked circuito 1 and 2, takes more or less 1 hour each. It’s more scrambling up and down than hiking, but well prepared paths. It’s not cheap but we enjoyed it.

Report Check-In

We enjoyed the beautiful landscape here. Explored the amazing rock formations which you can reach by stairs in steep parts. We also made circuito no. 2.
Bathroom is clean and you can enjoy a HOT SHOWER (solar). Even outside, there is a sink with warm/cold water. The owner was very kind! We paid S30 all included, even the museum (kind of funny;-)). In the morning, you can get fresh milk, if you like. Enjoy!

Report Check-In

Very nice canyon and very peaceful und silent place! Really worth to visit

Report Check-In

Easy to reach, even in rainy season, very good unpaved road. We parked at the roadside opposite the farm, where circuit n°1 starts. We had to pay 5 PEN per person to hike this circuit, because we passed the property of the farmer. Understandable. Circuit n°1: best walk counter clock wise, to start with the rather difficult part. The farmer wasn’t friendly. He told us we had to park at the official parking lot, where we also could camp (for which he asks money, we are not sure if it’s his property). He told us, if we would leave the car at the roadside, campesino’s would throw stones to the camper ... we didn’t like his attitude, because he is the only farmer around this place. So we didn’t move the camper. It started raining, so we had to leave the other 2 hikes for the next day. At that moment he again asked 5 PEN per person ... although we didn’t have to pass his farm. He said all the hikes are on his property ... we doubt if this is the truth. Peruvian people that also were visiting this place told us he only owns very limited part of the place and certainly not the hiking trails at the opposite of the street.

Report Check-In

We had to pay 3 soles / person to do the trekkings. The farmer is not too friendly. But the circuits are really beautiful. We had the circuits 1, 2 and 3. We recommend it.

Report Check-In

Super bien sitio, vengan pero... Es bien frío durante la noche,, necesitan estar equipados. El sitio es hermoso

Report Check-In

If you want to waste money in a fake museum I recommend you stay in that place. All treks are free and you can camp for free near the Bridge. I do not recommend this place, the bathrooms are very dirty and offers nothing you cannot find outside.

Report Check-In

Absolutely beautiful location. Safe and spacious flat spot for vehicles or tent. Vinciente gave us a tour of the museum which includes photos of the 4 trails, artifacts, and a small room full of stuffed birds and animals from the area. Parked by the picnic table shelter and used the red brick baño that has flush toilet, and sink. Did not use cold shower. Stayed 2 nights for 30 soles. Hiked both days which were sunny but still needed to carry a sweater. Circuit 2 is across the main road and a bit to the right. Good signage to mystical caves and a mirador. About 2 hours. Lots of farm animals to keep you entertained.

Report Check-In

Great hike up into the unique rock formations and past caves to a mirador. About 1 hour round trip. Very quiet night. We gave the lady S/10 propina. Toilet with no seat or paper, cold shower, and big sink for washing dishes. Very friendly dog!

Report Check-In

No fix price anymore! Only donation! Gave 10 Soles! Very nice scenery! Quiet!!!

Report Check-In

so the cost is not a donation anymore he wants 20s per night, which i think is a lot and twice the amount we paid elswhere. nice scenery though.

Report Check-In

museum is now 20sol for 2ppl.
nice landscape and a good place to spent the night.

Report Check-In

Tour is definitely not option, but friendly owner. We planned on staying two nights but were sick of the altitude. Seems like nice trails - he will open up a flush loo and shower (cold) for you but to us the pit toilets were cleaner. The Flush toilets were disgusting. Good place to stop pre border. Gave 20 Soles donation.

Report Check-In

Perfect spot to spend a night or two. We were greeted with the museum tour, I don’t think it’s optional. The animal exhibition was a bit odd, but worth a look. The owner was very friendly, and we camped by the museum under the shelter. There is a washroom with shower, and a big sink for dishes or laundry. We really enjoyed the Tinajani Canyon. Lots of great trails to hike with very unique scenery. The cost is by donation, we paid 25 soles for two nights.

Report Check-In

A great place! We were welcomed by the owner. He showed us his museum - which is great. Although the animal part is a bit morbid... The price is up to you. There is a shelter against the rain and a fairly new toilet (not just a hole) and a shower. The scenery is stunning and the trails are great. Recommend!

Report Check-In

when we arrived, the owner showed us around in the museum and explained the 4 different hikes you can do in this beautiful surounding.
we paied 10 soles for the two of us in the camper incl. the museum (altough we couldn't really say no to the museum explanation).
the trails are very well maintained and have signs- so it's worth the volunteered money.
we didn't use the smelly pit toilets and didn't find showers.
had a very peaceful and quiet night - well worth a visit!

Report Check-In

We actually stay here and paid, we had rain and the little roof help a lot. They have now new toilet with shower. For us worth of money.

Report Check-In

Nice place on the way Puno -Cusco.Even if you won't stay a nigth there, it's a very recomended place to visit

Report Check-In

We didn't camp there (we went to the wild camping spot 500m down the road) but we hiked from this campground to the top of the canyon. Nice views from up there. We volunteered 5 soles at the campground after the hike since they did some work on the trail (stairs across the rocks...)

Report Check-In

The canyon is really impressive! nice area to walk around. the owner let me park inside the gate at the hospedaje which has less wind than the other spot. you do need to cross a little river to get to the hospedaje but was fine for my VW van (you don't need to cross the river if you stay at the "normal" spot). Museum is a bit weird but the tour only takes a few minutes. friendly people. gets really cold at night. donated 15 sol.

Report Check-In

Not too impressed with this campsite. The toilet is a small hole in the ground, it's clean but no seat. Views are nice but the same views you'd get if you free camped. The shelter with tables is nice, and the small museum building provides shelter from the wind, but they do take away from the view. Would be good for motorbikes and smaller vans, big rigs could probably free camp and have a better experience. We volunteered 15sols after he showed us the museo but he seemed disappointed by it, although I think more would not be worth the facilities. The best part was his dogs haha, they are a lot of fun to play with and watch.

Report Check-In

Just a wonderful and peaceful place. Not closed, but very safe. The owners are very nice persons, they have lamas and other animals there and take care of the small nice museum with animals found dead in the area and of the canyon paths. Perfect for motorbike (can park under the roof) and tent. Small clean wc. A lot to see around there! Take food and water with you. Off road, but very good.

Report Check-In

Muy Lindo! It's a very quiet and tranquil spot to spend a night, and felt very safe. The canyon begs to be explored, but as we are still aclimatizing we were not up to it. It's worth the detour, it felt like a national park. I'm amazed noone has mentioned the impressive room of apocalyptic stuffed animals in the museum! Haha. We paid 20sol, which felt generous.

Report Check-In

Nice canyon. Really worth a visit. Highly recommended. And so quiet. We liked it and did a short steep but scenic hiking trail.

Report Check-In

Very nice place. The artesanias are rather expensive. He wanted 130 alles for a Bag and a Cap. We have him 100, what was too much!!

Report Check-In

a nice place between bizzar Rocks. the owner is very frendly and give us a tour in his Museum.

Report Check-In

Nice campsite and friendly owner. We volunteered 15 soles for the night and parked under the shelter for protection from the rain.

Report Check-In

15 soles for two to camp. It is essentially a volunteer amount after you check out mini museum. It is not free camping, an amount must be given. He also has a small shop where he sells hats and ropes and things that he makes. We bought an alpaca hat for 17..lots of cool hiking around. The family is very friendly. His name is Vincent or Vicante. There is also a hospedaje with two room options. They look nice. And outhouse out the back. We are here in end of August and it was wicked cold at night but shorts in day. Our water bottles froze.

Report Check-In

Great place!! The elder man and his wife gave us a warm welcome and told us to set up our camp anywhere. Definitely stay here!!!

Report Check-In

Bonito sitio para pasar el día o dormir, anuncian paseos a caballo y hay baño

Report Check-In

Nice place for overnight stay. Tables available.

Report Check-In

Yes, nice spot to overnight. Impressive views all-round.
Worth a walk up to the "Eglisa" formation in the cliffs across the road.

Pit toilets, shelter shed, no drinking water but river for washing.
Basically free, but old couple are happy to show you the micro-museo which they appreciate a few soles donation.

Couple of nice dogs from a nearby farm need to be chased away so they don't offer to stand guard all night.

If you are not in a hurry you can continue on the road and do a huge loop south and then around north to link up with the Puno Cusco road just north of where you left it.. Good road but can be isolated and goes up to 4800 metres.
