between beaty and Vegas. Watch out for the sign "big sand dune". follow the road and you will find plenty of space on both sides. no 4wd needed. too windy for tent. no shade. beautiful views. quiet and hidden from the main road. Good VERIZON Signal.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
very convenient for a night, didn't
go all the way back to the dunes since the road was a total washboard and we were only going to stay one night.
Don't stop at the first site you see. The dirt road is in great condition, no washboarding or holes. The further you can go the quieter of course, and you can get pretty close to the dunes. It's pretty cool to watch the dunes buggys climb the sand dunes, we were jealous that we didn't have one!
We found all the ground was pretty firm, just a slight give to the sand, and we were fine in our 2wd Savana. This place was pretty clean when we were here, just a few broken bottles in the fire pit. Be sure to pack out all your trash and bury your "waste" deep so no one else has to deal with it.
Enjoy!
Report Check-Inspot in the desert! didnt get bothered, someone could probably spend a lot of time here.
Report Check-InAs the other descriptions, this place is lovely!! Easy in, easy turn arounds. We are in a Overland Unimog flat towing our Toyota FJ Cruiser and Gad not issues at all. We got here an hour before sunset and not a single vehicle had passed by! Nice temps this time of year!
Report Check-InGreat spot to pass a night, nice cool temps for us in November & the most beautiful sky I’ve seen yet. It was STUPID windy though so the van was a rockin’.
Report Check-InGood accessible spot on BLM Land, it isn't a certain spot, just park anywhere in the surrounding. Be sure to stay in a nice distance (50-100 Meter) from the gravel road and on the side the wind comes from, otherways every passing vehicle will pack you in a cloud of dust.
Report Check-InAwesome spot to camp. Quiet and beautiful. We came in Sunday and Monday so we only saw one 4 wheeler. We camped the last day of March so the temperature was still cool and pleasant.
Report Check-InThere are many spots to camp along the dirt roads in this area. No 4wd needed. Not hot in November! Also no wind when we were here.
Report Check-InThere are two roads that are signed ‘Big Dune’. From Vegas, it’s the second road. We only went .7miles off the highway and found a good flat spot for our none 4wd van. We could see the freeway, but couldn’t hear the vehicles.
At the time of our visit, it was windy with temps that were very pleasant at around a high of 70F and low of 40F.
Pretty sure you could get a fairly large RV into and out of here with ease or trailer RV.
Camping in the desert along the Road to Big Dune in the Amargosa Valley. No shade, very hot, 42°C at 8 PM, 36°C at 1 AM, 32 at 6 AM.
Report Check-InReally cool place! Make sure you check out the big dune while you’re there!
