Description

Nica run tour operator with cabins and camping in a lovely field on the river. Henry is the local owner and the operation is managed by Brian, a Brit who is here to help Henry grow his business. Camping is $5 pp and there is a lovely shower, flush toilets and the campsite is quiet and serene and right next to a swimming hole. You can hike to a stunning mirador or take a tour of the canyon: jumping, floating, hiking, swimming, take a horse ride or just relax at the river. Tours are very reasonably priced, we did the 6 hour for $30 including guide, snacks and lunch. Horses are $15 for a 3 hour long and scenic ride. Booking online is recommended. Very responsive to email.

We contacted Roybin ahead of time to make sure he was open & had space. He was quick to respond. We met him near his business at the Somoto Canyon Tours. See photo of the signs. He had us camp at his family’s little finca nearby with locked gate. Roybin & his brother Johnny are very kind & helpful. I got to practice my Spanish with Johnny. Roybin speaks a little English.

Probably enough space for 2 vehicles to camp at finca. Trailer could back in the gate or turn around on grass area in front of finca gate. Not exactly level but rocks, wooden boards or maxtrax will solve that issue. Funny metal outhouse. Outdoor rustic private shower. Water spigot on site & plenty of fruit trees. We got to see the huge mama pig & 6 little piglets-so cute! Johnny rounded up lemons for us that were green & looked like limes. We made fresh squeezed lemonade that afternoon—yum!

This camping spot is right on Pan-American hwy but fairly quiet at night. Some trucks go by but it quiets down after 10pm. Nice cool breeze at night. Not humid when we were they. Paid $20 for 2 people in Toyota 4runner. Worth it to be only 3 miles to El Espino border crossing. This sets you up for easy early morning border crossing.

These brothers are guides in Somoto canyon. They offer hike, walk, & swim tours that looked really fun. If we had more time, we would have joined them on a fun canyon tour.

Great little finca. Camping enough for 2 CARS. Not flat, you'll need to level out. Not much bigger. It's a working farm right off of the panamerican and just a couple km before the actual Somoto canyon tours office/ homestead. There is water and a pit toilet. You can wander the entire finca. There's not much traffic out on this stretch of the panamerican, so it's pretty quiet. They allow pets on the tours.

took the tour with Johnny and had a great time. it can be cold so get ready and dress appropriately. he first walked us a few km up river via the road then we had a fun time swimming and hiking the canyon back down river to where most tourists come. if you take the tour, you can definitely see more interesting parts safely (or do it yourself if you want). see attached photo for my Garmin route tracking.

camping: we chose to sleep with Pancho, the overly friendly donkey in his field, it's much quieter and secluded but you also have no services (not worth paying for IMO) but the family let us camp there free two nights in exchange for taking the tour.

We stayed here for one night with a 24 foot after touring the canyon with a guide. We paid $ 25 per person for the tour and $ 5 for the overnight stay. Very friendly team, very good restaurant, very fun canyon ride, doable by everyone if you can swim.

Really nice and welcoming family. We slept one night and did the tour with Elmer. Really nice. Worth it.

GREAT place to stay before/after the border!!We’ve stayed here twice and just love this family!!!

We’ve never dealt with Henry only his brothers who are very friendly and kind. Once we camped in their cow pasture and another time up by the cabinas and restaurant where the families hang out.

These folks rely solely on tourists to feed their families and tourism has nearly collapsed here after last years unrest. This is a gorgeous, safe, peaceful area with wonderful people and the canyon tour is so much fun! By far our favorite place in Nicaragua!

Camped and had such a blast on the tour. $6 per person to camp (kids 50%). Tour $25 pp (kids 50%). We took 3-4 hour tour with kids. Wear swimsuits.
Henry and his family wonderful, even let us watch World Cup at his house.
Bathrooms and showers nice.

We came here after the border crossing, and the Soriano family, who runs the business, is really, really nice.
We did the long tour with them (25$ / 750C per person for 6 hours, with guide, life jacket, shoes, snack and lunch), and we could stay for free with our campervan at their property (not in the campground).
We highly recommend it !

Great place to stay right before crossing to Honduras. We did the tour with them, paid 30$ for the 6 hour tour and they did not charge us for the two nights we spent there. Nice toilets and showers. No wifi or phone service (Claro). Really nice people, Henry is trying to make a difference in his community by creating jobs for the locals. Great guy.

As described. Came in low season and have a full camper so no need for showers/washrooms/cooking facilities... was able to negotiate a free night of camping into the deal as we signed up for the 6 hour tour for 2 people ($30 each).
Took the tour with Elmer (Henry's brother). He's a great guy, attentive to safety, and lots of information about the area. Enjoyed the tour thoroughly. I'm not sure what the $10 tour gets you at the other locations... probably just the short ride on inner-tubes. Ours was the full floating/hiking/climbing/jumping experience. Reasonable physical ability required, although they can arrange for a simpler and shorter version if you need. Lunch was provided after... was good, not great.

Wow, loved it. All of it. The Somoto Canyon tour with Olvin was great! We did the Long Tour for $30 dollars each. Includes transportation, snacks, big lunch. They have rooms to rent on the hwy where you check in, but camping is 1k down the hill in a big flat grassy area on the river with flushing toilet and shower. Cold, but far from freezing. $5 per person. I would go back just for the camping! Dog friendly. Our dog is too old to do the tour although they said he could. They had a lady in town watch him. We left him in a fenced area with water and shade for the day. Very nice. I wouldn't count on electricity. It worked the first day, but not the second.
