Description

After talked to the Tourism Police at the main Plaza he said we could camp wherever we wanted to, but he recommended us this amazing spot. No amenities but the view is great! Very windy on the evening and some kids came to drink at night (it was weekend) but not too bad... Free.

I'm on a bicycle and I pitched my tent here for the night. First I asked some police officers if I could camp at Mirador Salto del Mico (which is also on ioverlander), but they said they don't allow camping there and instead told me to come here. It's very visible but it was fairly quiet, and it felt safe enough. One other overlander was there that night.

Perfect place to visit the village of Barichara, in 5 minutes we are in the city center. We were there on the evening of January 1, so it was not really quiet. The view of the valley is wonderful!

Report Check-In

Perfect place to camp, very quiet and safe. High chance of meeting other Overlanders as well.

Friendly locals.

Very nice place to stay overnight. We stayed in town for 5 nights but preferred the upper wild camping spot next to the church as less people came by to take pictures. Overall very safe and friendly locals.

Very nice place to stay in Barichara ! Beautiful view on mountains ! We stayed 3 nights here, very safe and peaceful. You can walk easily to the center (5mn). No water tap. Claro 3G doesn’t work very well. We took shower at the “Hospedaje Aquí estoy bien”, very close and very nice place. The lady is very friendly, hot shower for 8000 COP/pers.

Report Check-In

we stayed here for some nights without any problems. sometimes really friendly locals came to ask us about our car and our journey. 15 minute walk to the main square.

there is one supermarket in town (D1) but they dont had any water bottles 😀

Hermoso spot! lugar tranquilo y seguro. Nos quedamos dos noches sin problema. Lugar 100%recomendado!

Report Check-In

We stayed 4 nights here from Wednesday to Saturday and were alone. However we moved the van every morning to park in the city and came back here in the evening. No one told us anything, police even passed by.
Amazing spot with mountain view.

Report Check-In

The police -not as welcoming here as in other villages- asked everybody to leave after they probably thought the place was overcrowded with five vehicles, some of which had been around for a few weeks

Report Check-In

The most popular sleeping place in town.

Reseau tigo ok

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

We stayed 5 nights. There is no claro 4g signal in this part of the town (Tigo worked ok). We parked insted in front of a house to avoid the mud (we went on rainy season).

Report Check-In

Perfect place to enjoy a fantastic view.
Very quiet . Felt safe and left the camper there while trecking on el 'camino del Rey" to Guane.

Report Check-In

Absolutely amazing spot, perfect for staying overnight. Silent but still close to the center. The police passed by several times, but didn't say anything. This town seems to be very safe!

Report Check-In

Excellent place. Amazing view, close enough to the main square to get by walking and far enough not to be bothered. At one point there were 4 overlanders there.

Report Check-In

Correct location.
Entering the town from San Gil tarmac road all the way, pass the fuel station on your l ft, enter the first square with tourist information, take the left down the steep hill, swing around to the right, then keep going straight up the hill. At top of hill take the hard right up the hill, almost doubling back, then first left and after 200m you have arrived.
Locals in houses very friendly.
When leaving either head back to San Gil or be prepared for a rough, long gravel track to Santa Isabel. 4x4, I did it in a MAN big rig, not recommended.

Great place, very quiet, as all the beautiful town. And awesome views.

Looks like a sweet place to park for the night if you just want to check out the town in the am and pm when the light is best.

We stay 3 nights here. Amazing views, near the main street and the people of this place is incredible.

Report Check-In

Still a very good spot to wildcamp. Clean, leveled spot incl some streetlights and with a great view.

Report Check-In

Very beautiful view. No facilities but very quiet and safe.

Report Check-In

This is an awesome spot, but there are no facilities. It’s directly in front of houses and where children play, so not really fair on the residents to use the area as an outside toilet.

Report Check-In

Awesome wild spot, beautiful views, felt very safe, locals that live in the houses here are lovely, perfect location - just a short walk into town from here.

Report Check-In

we spent 4 nights. Very quiet, very safe and a lovely little town

Report Check-In

Got here in the late morning, beautiful views and was dry. Did hike to Guane and then it rained. Yes it's red clay/mud when wet. When coming here the coordinates took us out of town onto the highway to Guane so if you leave the cobble street and hit asphalt you're not going to find it. It's a big open area with a million dollar view in front of a row of homes.

Spent a couple of nights here in our camper with the family (3 kiddos). Beautiful view overlooking the valley and mountains. Felt safe, as did in the whole town. Beautiful area. Did the walk to Guane, start of it just down the road.

Report Check-In

This place seems like an overlander hotspot - so many checkins! Perfect option, even if you are not so keen on wildcamping, as this town is so tranquil and safe. No toilets, but I'm sure we were not the first to take a stroll down the cliff a little bit! Lol. Give a smile and wave to the locals living in the adjacent houses - I'm sure they appreciate knowing that the people stealing their view are friendly :)

Report Check-In

The views from here are great! It was too windy and dusty when we stopped by with the intention to camp here for the night. Instead we ended up camping at the Gravel Lot behind the Capilla de Santa Barbara also in iOverlander.

Report Check-In

Report Check-In

Beautiful and flat spot overlooking the valley below. Same thing - friendly police stopped by twice and said it was totally safe to camp there. Unfortunately, because it was a Friday night, there was some loud music from a bar nearby and a couple of loud drunks walked by around 3am but it was more annoying than worrisome. Free!

Beautiful place to stay 2 or more days. Great weather, and and amazing view. Very quiet at night and safe

Report Check-In

We camped here for 2 nights and really loved it! the views are great and it is flat. It was a little windy and there were a couple of big thunder and lightening storms, which meant the red clay we parked on turned into red mud! It was fairly quiet-with a little music from a nearby bar, but we slept really well and felt very safe. No facilities.

We asked the police at the plaza, and they escorted us to the lookout. They insisted that the place is 100% safe. We stayed there three nights. Without problems. The views are great.

Feels very safe, great views. Take Carrera 4 and turn up Calle 1 to get there, then a left on one of the roads to the end. The parking area is behind the buildings.

Great spot, great views. Quiet, 5min walk to town centre, free.

Lovely vistas, quiet place to camp. Wind died down nicely after the sun went down,

Report Check-In

Beautiful view, gets a little muddy in the rain (red clay).

Report Check-In

Not windy while we were here. Just a very nice breeze. Excellent view! Locals pointed us in the right direction. It seems they are used to overlanders camping here.

Report Check-In

We stayed two nights here and did some van maintenance during the day.

Report Check-In

Great spot, just at the edge of town with a spectacular canyon view. Quite overnight, did seem like it could get a little breezy. Some traffic coming by but never felt out of place.

Parking on a cliff at the end of the beautiful colonial town of Barichara. Beautiful view into the canon and quiet at night. No facilities and free.
