Description

Best wild camping spot so far! Like many others we were allowed to park our car just outside the gate to stay there for the night, after joining a tour. It is completely quiet. Actually a quietness that is hard to find nowadays. We woke up with a beautiful moon that was slowly disappearing and making place for the sun. Although there are no facilities, we spend the whole morning looking into the valley and reading a book. Really recommend staying here.

Latest Check-Ins

After the tour at El Pangue observatory, we were allowed to stay here. It's right on the road, but no traffic at night. It is absolutely quiet and dark. The sky is amazing!

We were going to camp outside the gate, but ended up driving a few hundred meters down the road to Mirador El Pangue, which was a nicer view and a bit more off the road. Very little traffic, so even though it’s the side of the road it was quiet from 11-730am. Beautiful - lots of places to pull over on this road. I’d recommend coming when there’s light so you can explore the side roads and find a perfect spot. This will do, though! No services, great view of what I think is Tololo Obervatory.

We stayed there after our tour, close to the gate. It is not perfectly flat but ok for one night. Very silent and the view on the sky is amazing. We were woken up by a group of cyclists chatting around our van. No signal with Entel.

We bought our tickets in town in the morning and got here mid day and parked. (you must buy tickets before 1:30). Super quiet night after tour.

Report Check-In

We spent the night outside the gate after our astronomical tour. We would recommend driving back down to flatter spots, but we didn’t want to drive in the pitch dark. Hardly any traffic passes by in the night and it’s beautifully quiet. Ok for one night after a tour, but not somewhere you want to hang out. We drove a bit down the road to take some astrophotos, but camped outside the gate. Recommended if you do this tour.
