Description

Road from Panama City to Colon: Panapass is only for the coredor norte/sur, not for the road to Colon. If you get out of the city without the Coredor norte (*use the Chilubre motorway entrance*), then you will get to a "cuota" road to colon at some point. Here you pay 2,50$ cash and off you ride. We started driving at 6:30 on a weekday from the Yacht Club and got to the Terminal in Colon at 8:15.

This is not the exact location of the tollbooth, it is just info for all, becaus it was impossible to find out if you need the panapass etc...

Latest Check-Ins

PS to my post a few minutes ago: I forgot to highlight that these two toll roads are run by two different entities. While the second one is problem-free, it is the first one that causes trouble.

I went there recently, my only preparation being the map, which showed that going from Panama City (near Albrook) to Colon is best done via Corredor Norte (about 9 km), then highway 9. Both are tollroads, and I didn't anticipate any problems. But I soon found out better.

While there was only one toll station on highway 9 (about midway, costing 2.30 USD), there where two toll plazas on that short CN section, and fully robotised - not one human being. Both times, I was blocked by a closed barrier. Then some scanning (I assume) procedure took place. Then apparently some deliberations were going on inside the automatism, and then the barrier actually opened to let me pass.

Having a bad conscience, I wrote the provider and confessed, asking how to pay my debt. After some melee, they told me I should not have used the CN and desisted from further action in this case.

Which was generous, but leaves the question: How else are we supposed to drive? Or is it really necessary to enlist with them just for this one ride?

...or you do it no panapass style !
1) follow someone very close up to the gate
2) don't hesitate ! Keep following him!
3) enjoy free panapass.

The gate does not close if you follow at 5m.

The free access (without needing a panapass) to this fast toll road to Colon is about 15 kms sth of here at Chilibre, Avenue Madden. You need a panapass even for the 500m of the corridor norte between Av.de la Paz and the turn off to the toll road to colon.
