Description

Excellent hiking in NP, all tracks start at park entrence (these coordinates show Big Drop Falls):
1) Antelope Track; 45min uphill, last bit steep with ropes, nice swimming.
2) Bird loop easy 45 loop thru jungle vegetation, not many birds seen.
3) the large waterfall loop (very little people do it); walk along the road for 35min to Bokawina falls (nice swimming), then another 1:45 to Beck Falls (the small trail gets worser and worser, sometimes a bit tricky to find / if you loose the trail in a gully do NOT head up, try to stay in the gully). Beck Falls are maybe the nicest, excellent swimming. Then another 15min to Big Drop Waterfall turnoff (good trail). From this turnoff it is 20min on a extremely steep trail (ropes provided) to Big Drop Fall (swimming difficult). You have to descend 190 altimeters! 20min backtracking to the turnoff. From turnoff (good former logging trail) 1:35min to Park entrance. (On the way you can walk down to an old steam hoist, it is only 170mts). Total walking time: 4:50hrs

We recommend to hike the other way round because you start with the hard bit and finish with a swimm in Bojawina falls. If you do so start at the park entrence, take the trail between Maya structure (ruin) 2 and 3, after 200mts take the right trail (16.930802 -88.381976).

Report Check-In

We did the hike starting at Big Drop Falls and ending at Bocawina Falls. Really nice hike with lovely waterfalls took us about 5h. The whole hike is about 15km. After Peck Falls it was hard to find the right trail because of fallen trees. Just stay on the path on your right and you should be good. Park ranger told us they will mantain the trail and put up more ribbons and better signs!

We walked the large waterfall loop in 4 hours + breaks, beginning with the Big Dop Waterfall and ending at Bocawina Falls.
Walk from the visitors centre straight, after 100m take the path on the left side, saying "Big Dop Falls/ Steam Hoist".
Because it was wet and really slippery, we did not go all the way down to Big Dop Falls and only saw a stream passing by, in our opinion not really worth it when the weather isn't good. Peck Falls and Bocawina Falls are beautiful and excellent swimming though.
