Description

A small pizzeria a half minute walk from the beach with a large area for camping; tents or vehicles. There's decent washrooms with showers, though we didn't try the showers. The pizzeria has wifi measured at 1.5Mbps, and the staff were very kind, offering us bug spray. The price per night is USD$6/person.

We stayed on New Years Eve and I think we were the only non-locals. At the beach too there seemed to only be locals with very few, if any non-Ticos.

Although the campground is between two roads, it was fairly quiet. My girlfriend and I would stay again. In my opinion this is a far better option than the Congo campground in Playa Hermosa if you want cheaper and quieter.

We stayed here one night after crossing the border into Costa Rica. Tania in the restaurant was very friendly & checked us in. 5,000 colones per person. Location is on curve in road so there is loud moto/jake brake noise but quiets down at night. Nice breeze & playa is across the street. A big truck pulled up & 10-15 guys got out. Seems like they work somewhere else then live in the metal containers onsite. The couple of camping spots are not very level but we leveled out ok with maxtrax. Water & electric nearby. Tents & platforms available up on little hill. Banos clean, TP, hand soap, 4-5 showers in each men & women’s side. Ok location for a night.

Marco is the best!! Nice and purely helpful guy! Organized us a diving trip including a lift to there and even so much more. Camping is good too! Did not try the restaurant but looked and smelled superb! Always busy with customers speaks for it as well!

everything is as described above except the price, 6000 columns or 11 dollars for 1 tent, 1 person,1 bike

Very nice place to camp with a moto. Marco, the site manager, is very friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. On-site restaurant is tasty and moderately priced . I found the showers and toilets to be very clean.

We spent here 1 night, which was ok. Paid 5000c/ppn. Toilets and showers bit old and run down but quite clean with tp and soap. Good WiFi. Beach is very close but nothing special. No high restriction at entrance.

Stayed one night, the Camping is located next to a police station and opposite the entrance to Playa Panama.
Originally wanted to stay at Playa Hermosa, which is the much nicer beach than Playa Panama, but the Camping & Hostel Congos there made a not so well maintained impression, rather muddy and is about to get sold.
So, we decided for Camping Papgayo, which offers friendly staff and ok maintained facilities, as well as a snack bar (no pizza). As of midnight until 5-6am there was hardly any traffic. Before and after there is quite some traffic noise, especially as they accelerate after the curve and uphill.

There ground is gravelled, so not muddy. Wifi is strong.
For one night it is ok.

Perfect spot for a night when crossing borders. They have wifi and the beach is very close. Easy to find too! We didn’t use their bathroom. There are a lot of construction workers staying there right now in some little container houses at the side of the parking lot probably because there is a construction close to this spot.
Would stay again!

Nice folks who work in the restaurant and accepted payment for camping (5,000 colones pp). Dinner offerings on the menu were good and food was tasty. Nice terraced tenting area in the trees. Howler monkeys slept above our van in the parking lot. Bathrooms with many cold showers were cleaned each morning. Across street from tranquil waters at Panama beach with its black sand. Not many options available in this developed area, so will recommend this one for an overnight. We stayed here two nights and will return our rented van to Liberia Airport (30 minutes away) following our three-week camping tour of Costa Rica.

Nice place 5 minutes from the beach Playa Panama. Shower and toilet are very clean. We paid 5000 colones per adult and 4000 for kids. We can take electricity for 5000 colones more.

This place was awesome! The owner Marco is super nice and accommodating. There is a restaurant onsite, there are 2 pre-erected tent camping spots above the parking lot if you don't want to camp in the parking lot. There have been camp fires up there. The restaurant has good food, the bathrooms and showers are clean. There are outdoor as well as indoor showers. There is a pila in the tent camping area to wash dishes and clothes. They have electricity at some sites and at the covered tent camping area. They currently are housing workers for a nearby project, they get up early so if you're a light sleeper and not used to waking up early (5:45 am) you might be displeased. The showers are cold water showers, but refreshing. It's located right across the street from the beach and the police station. They have their own water treatment plant that they use for their gardens. The wifi is super fast. I registered 102Mbps download speed. The trick is to connect to their 5G network. They are pet friendly, but... there are skunks that roam the property at night. If your animal likes to chase other animals, you may want to keep them inside. Our dog likes to sleep outside when it's hot and she doesn't chase things, so she was fine. We felt safe and had no problems. The cost is 4,000 colones per person per day. Highly recommended!

Very nice place near the beach. Nice people and also small restaurant with also shower, toilets, and free wifi. 2 nights, very quiet... Only birds and sometime monkeys fare from the place.

Good for a one-night stay and passing on the next day. Do not expect a genuine camping feeling, it's just a small restaurant, with some place for your tent on the other side of the parking lot. Lots of temporary placed cabins for construction workers for a project nearby, which also use showers/toilets/restaurant.

we landed here while waiting for our luggage to arrive in Liberia. a perfect first night in Costa Rica. nothing more than a place to park have showers good food and cheap beer. it's just across from the police department and a block from the water. good Costa Rican breakfast in the morning with excellent coffee.

we stayed here in our camper van while we awaited luggage to appear next day in Liberia at the airport. it was a perfect first night in Costa Rica. about 6,000 colones a person to stay. wonderful food, cheap beers, breakfast and coffee was fantastic. cold water showers or a delight in the morning. Hosts were very with their time. this was a bare Bones place to park, but right across the street from the beach and the police department. fairly quiet despite proximity to the road.

Pizzeria?
We arrived tired and had hoped to be able to eat dinner here. No such luck, there’s not a restaurant here but a concession type stand. Not clean at all (facilities or grounds) and very noise from road traffic. Hosts do not speak any English.

We arrived around 5pm and first they wanted $20 and later agreed on C6000 for the night (rooftoptent + 2 persons). Man at the site was watching tv with the volume on ‘let the whole neighborhood know what I’m watching for free’. Luckily he turned it down when we asked him to.
We walked around to check if we could camp somewhere else. We tried at the restaurant across the street, but unfortunately this wasn’t possible.

The campsite isn’t anything special. As described earlier it’s between two parts of one road (circling around the site) but it’s not too busy, although it is also under a flying route of the nearby airport Liberia. No extreme noise though, only now and then a small plane. No planes at night.

We had a drink (no food) at the restaurant which has the sweetest lady who speaks a little English and with every word you don’t know in Spanish she will teach you.
WiFi at campsite is really bad, it connects but nothing happens. So consider it: campsite NO WiFi.
At the restaurant it’s fast though.

Showers are not extremely cold but not very clean as weren’t the toilets: 1 out of 4 was clean. We didn’t use electricity so I don’t know about that.
We only stayed here one night but wouldn’t recommend it at all, only if it’s for when your passing by and really need a stop. Also mosquito paradise! No guards at night but it’s safe.
