great place. you can rent a canoe, we wanted to go to the end of the lake with it. the owner asked 60 sol for each 15 minutes for the three person canoe. it is nice but that is too expensive.

It’s just a dirt road, nothing difficult. We camped at the entrance (to acclimate), so we were the first to go up, which was very nice. Amazing lake.

Amazing lake. One of the most beautiful we’ve seen. Note: if you are driving your own vehicle up to this lake, we advise to arrive before 10am. Not many people during this time. However, don’t plan to start to leave until after 1:30pm. Before that time, you’ll likely run into all the tourist vans coming up. And because the road is narrow, it’ll be tough for you to drive down while they are driving up.

Amazing views, road is good until the park entrance and then it gets very rough… locals drive up in small cars (there was a Toyota Camry up there) so it can be done but… all depends on how much you like your suspension… catalytic convertor and all the other things hang out down there! It was tough for us on the big bikes, physically especially coming back down. But worth the trip up. It’s amazing up there!
Tour groups go up in 2x4 sprinters and similar… it’s just a rough ride.

Great views, even with clouds. Nice scramble through the rocks to go further up. Took a taxi as road up there is rough.

We decided not to drive here. A taxi can bring you up to the trailhead to this hike in Pueblo Paron OR bring you all the way to the top. It's a lovely hike, we would say intermediate in difficulty, a mix between marked trail and walking back on the road. Once at the Laguna, you can take the trail around it to take in more beautiful views of the place. During the wet season, try to get there earlier in the morning, it cleared up around 10:30am. We recommend it!

We did both, Laguna Paron and 69, both very very beautiful. The advantage of this one is that you can go up by car if you don‘t have the time to hike. We paid 120 Soles for a Taxi, the driver took us up there from Caraz, waited one hour and then took us back down. Stunning views, amazing place. A lot of flies at the lake that try to get into your ears and nose.

Simply stunning. We stayed here overnight and we thought the best light and colours were midday/afternoon. Spectacular place!

Please, go. And if you can, spend the night up here. The drive itself is beautiful. Slow, but worth it every curve. We went on a Tuesday and got to the gate too late, 3:30 pm. We wouldn't have enough time to go up and down, as they close at 5 pm, we were not prepared to camp. It was raining and we almost didn't go back the next day. I am so glad we did. We showed up a little earlier, but now prepared to spend the night. It was already amazing when we got to the lake, at around 4 pm, but a little cloudy. It started to rain and it was very cold, so we decided to pay 10 soles/person for the bed. Mario, the ranger, was extremely kind, made us a fire while we enjoyed a nice talk. The next morning, OMG. It was totally clear, we could see everything perfectly, including the full reflection of the mountain on the lake (before 9 am, after that, the sun goes too high for any reflection). If our trip ended today, I would be happy. First 5 star rate I give on iOverlander!
