One additional here: the ferry is a great option if you want to see the meeting of the waters without paying for a tour. You’ll get a great view from the upper deck as you slowly pass it by. Only 5 BRL to cross as a pedestrian. Don’t take the speedboats, you won’t see anything.

Update on the BR319: like said below, rain will massively influence the trip. We did this trip mid-june, so technically outside the rainy season, but it still rained nearly every day. Humaita-Manaus (680 km) took us 5 days. So here our findings:
- probably best not to do this road by yourself in rainy conditions. We luckily met other overlanders at the start of the road, we have towed/winched/dug/pushed each other out of the mud multiple times.
- the first part and last parts of the road are mostly old broken up tarmac/hard underground, but with massive potholes, so no problems there but you just don't go very fast.
- there is a part of about 80 km in the middle where it is soft, so with rain it gets these super thick muddy patches which you get stuck in. In dry conditions probably fine.
- bridges fortunately were no problem, all were strong enough. No repairs needed.
- we expected more options to winch ourselves out with trees etc along the road. In reality there weren't any big trees near the road, only electricity poles, which looked weak and rotten. So if you go expecting to winch yourself out on a tree or something, it didn't really seem an option. We winched ourselves out attached to our friends car.

Altogether a very fun but tiring experience (we have never been so muddy), just make sure to stock up on food and water and enjoy :)

We drove down this road 319 from Manaus to Porto Velho. The first 100 km are in a perfect pavement. Where the pavement ends is the last gas station and from there 453 km off road. This road is used from heavy trucks, buses and regular cars. The road condition are extremely influenced by the weather. Only some rain is critical. Be prepared for about 3 -5 days.
