Description

On this GPS position you have to drive underneath an impressiv waterfall! This alternativ road from El Queremal to Buenaventura is a fantastic drive thru extremely dense jungle, passing countless waterfalls and tranquil villages. The central part of this 4:30hrs drive is very rough. Tire damaging rocks, washouts and a very narrow, almost overgrown track make it passable only for 4WDs and smaller trucks. Tree branches make it hard for vehicles higher than 300cm. There is virtually no traffic. It's gravel all the way, so even in wet conditions one should get thru. We recommend to drive downhill (westwards) as you get over the rocky stretches more easy by rolling down. /// the main highway between Cali/Buga and Buenaventura is a UGLY drive with a lot of traffic (we counted 300 trucks per hour on our drive up!!!) /// Bitumen and Panamericana drivers be WARNED: if you like sealed roads and swear about potholes DO NOT DRIVE this track, you will not love it!

Latest Check-Ins

we did the road with two big adventurebikes. first part quite rocky and wet but doable, no steep hill. one tree blocked the road, we cutted a tunnel. i would say also possible for small cars with high clearance (and eventually 4x4), but take gear for cutting trees with you and a lot of time....

Report Check-In

I passed from Buenaventura - El Danubio - Cali by motorbike without any problems. Buenaventura - El Danubio is rough, lots of rocks, some landslides and fallen trees. Should be no problem for s 4x4.

Quick update, as of December 2021, this place is no longer accessible by car / van / 4x4. The road from Buenaventura has been abandoned and is now blocked by trees, landslides etc… only passable on foot.
From the east side the road collapsed (see post at location) to the point of only being passable by motorcycles… for now. I anticipate the rest of that road will collapse at the next big rainfall.

I cycled this road with my touring bicycle. The road is paved for about 13 km west of El Queremal, then decent quality gravel until El Danubio. From there to Agua Clara very poor road quality (but the most scenic part with lots of beautiful waterfalls and a few good viewpoints). The bad road quality continues for a few more km after Agua Clara, but they are currently paving the road so I suppose the pavement will eventually extend all the way from Buenaventura to Agua Clara.
