Description

This is a really neat remote campground in the Custer National Forest. There are two or three sites here with a very modern pit toilet. Official sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Photos included. Recommend stopping first at Red Shale Campground and getting a paper map, since there is limited cell service in most of the forest. I got one bar of AT&T, and occasionally none. My friend was on Verizon and got about the same. Note that there are additional nice sites in the immediate area around the campground as well (that’s what we did) and you can camp there because you can camp anywhere on the national forest land. The whole area is beautiful and quiet, and very striking because the area was burned from a forest fire a few years back.

Beautiful spot. Camp sites are nice and spread out. There was a forest fire so in lots of places you can obtain VERY dry pine, great for a big hot fire. Very clean pit toilets.
