Well established horse ranch, backpackers and campsite. Lovely, friendly owners Steve and Lulu will make you feel very welcome. Overlanders themselves, they have just completed a full renovation/ upgrade of the campsite to make it more "overland vehicle" friendly. Newly built ablution blocks with two hot/ cold showers, communal kitchen area with simple gas hob and fridge/ freezer for campers to use. Spacious camping area with nicely positioned level plots spread down a gentle slope, under trees so lots of shade and looking out across the mountains and adjacent to a stream. Big rigs may struggle to get onto campsite but there are plenty of other spaces to park under the trees, alongside the site itself. Khotso has over a hundred horses and specialises in a variety of horse trails. Lots of nice walks around farm and slightly further afield, some great hiking in the Drakensberg mountains ( e.g. Garden Castle and Cobham KZN reserves). Typical, friendly backpacker style atmosphere with good, hearty breakfast and dinner available if required. Very easy place to stay for more than just a few days. We paid 120ZAR ppn including electricity and wifi. We were visiting Sept 2016.
What a nice place! We loved our time here. A huge farm where you can wonder around. Surroundings are stunning. Steve and Lulu are lovely hosts. We spent Saturday night at the barbecue tasting Steve great (and famous) bread. The last morning we had a coffee with Steve and Lulu, sharing stories and left with a list of nice places to visit in SA.
Report Check-Inlovely place, nice campsites, done by people who have a clue about camping! Especially the outdoor-kitchen was well appreciated by us as we had 2 days of rain. Nice big living area with fire when it's cold and wet outside, owners very friendly and helpful. Recommendable and the money worth.
Report Check-InAs others have said, this was one of our favourite campsites in South Africa. Lovely, peaceful surrounding. Nice, super helpful and relaxed owners and staff. Some great activities on offer too (we did the horse trekking and tubing both of which were really fun, as well as our own hiking in the local area) and super amenities, including a much welcome outdoor kitchen and cosy living space. Would definitely recommend a few days here.
Report Check-InAs described before, this is a lovely place. The owners Steve and Lulu are so friendly, and are overlanders as well. We planned to stay 2/3 nights, we stayed 4. We really liked the vibe and the nature around is just amazing.
Report Check-InAs described, a beautiful campsite situated in a beautiful landscape. Things to do include hiking, horse riding, river tubing, cycling, etc. Very friendly management and staff. Ablutions neat and clean. Would have loved to have stayed longer, but the world is wide and life is short! Recommend.
Report Check-InProbably one of the best spots in South Africa.
It's our second time here (been also in June 2021) and we came back. Our initial plan was just a stopover but we stayed for 6 nights.
Place is lovely, staff are amazing!
Lots of hiking trails around, and fun activities as well!
Very recommend
As the comments belwo the spot is beautiful. Sam welcomed us. The have some lovely dogs and some horses.
The Campsites is on a lower level than the rest of the area. So in the evenings and the mornings there is still no sun at the site. This might be a bit of a disadvantage during this time of the year due to the coold. We decided to drive off one hour later that we can eat breakfast in the warm and let the tent dry from the sun
As overlanders we loved the place. The campsite is nice and green with clean ablutions, hot showers and a private braai at some of the sites. The camp has a clean and spacious communal kitchen with a strong 3 burner cooker. Good WiFi is available at the main building which is also the perfect hideaway if it rains. There is a fire burning and the backpacker atmosphere is laid back and friendly. Owner Steve (with a rich overlanding experience) and the staff are super helpful and will point you in the right direction if you have any questions about hikes in the Drakensberg area.
Report Check-InEverything still as said before. Really nice spot! If you are not so into horse riding you can also enjoy the waterfall pools nearby and take a hike to the highest point. The view is amazing!
Report Check-InNice campsite in wonderful landscape. Good, clean and spacious ablutions/hot showers. Fast Wifi inside the main building which has a nice communal room. Good kitchen block in the middle of the campsite. 120 ZAR pppn. Would definitely go again!
Report Check-InThe perfect place to chill after a week in Lesotho. Beautiful landscapes, friendly people, breakfast and dinner possible (we had a nice braai for 130 pp). New, very nice ablution block, fast WiFi. Natural pool with small waterfall pretty close by (15-20 min walk). We extended our stay to 3 nights because we liked it so much. Price 130pppn.
Report Check-InVery nice and friendly place to stay. we have a big truck and they find a other way to arrive in the campsite.
Report Check-InNice campsite with a warm atmosphere. The landscape is stunning, do a hike up to the highest point. 140 ZAR pppn

Report Check-Ina really good and fine place, owners Steve and Lulu are great! a must go for every overlander
Report Check-InWe planned to stay here 1 night due to the Sani Pass, but stayed here two nights as we liked it so much. Situated on a horse ranch you will find this lodge with camping, dorms and rondavels.
Campsite has grass spots, with braai, kitchen and abulation blocks (hot and cold water). For the colder nights you can chill in the lounge near the fireplace or make you use of the kitchen inside.
Internet is available, but low/average speed. But there is much to do as the area is perfect for hiking or get on one of the 100 horses and do a day tour.
Price:
R120 pppn for camping
Awesome place, no changes to the below. Spent 4 nights, good location for sani Pass excursions or gateway to Lesotho
