September 2017 - A police officer told us that it is absolutely forbidden to park & sleep in the car in Pacifica!
This Surfers beach is a busy parking lot during normal daylight hours, but becomes an empty parking lot at night. The usual pay hours are 8am to 8pm and free after that, with it only costing about $4 for 4 hours in addition, should you like to park early or stay late. It is between highway 1 and the ocean, so it can be a little loud at night, but safe and clean.
The lot has a common bathroom area that gets cleaned often, and an outdoor (cold) shower used by the surfers to clean the sand off themselves. A beach front Taco Bell is the closest neighbor, with a gas station, grocery store, shopping plaza and McDonalds close by within a 5 minute walk. There are no picnic tables.
Although Police have been known to pass through the lot often, it does not seem like they care that you are parked. Be sure to not cause a disturbance and draw attention to yourself to reduce the chance of being confronted. As per beach regulations, dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Stayed her multiple times in September and October, once for 3 nights in a row. You can park right up next to a boardwalk, which backs onto this surfers beach.
We're always parking at 8pm and up and moving by 8am to abide by the signs and the free parking. Police are known to pull into the lot, but they have never hassled us despite being obviously the only van in the lot. A hit loud at night, but a great place to catch some zzzz's. lot has been reduced by half with construction taking over one half, middle of October.
Report Check-InA police officer told us that it is absolutely forbidden to park & sleep in the car in Pacifica! Couldn't find a place in the surrounding and drove on...
Report Check-InParking lot across from the beach. Need to move before 8 am but no signs that say no overnight parking.
Report Check-InSurfers show up really early; before sunrise, but we were safe and undisturbed for the duration of our stay otherwise. Roughly 45 minutes outside downtown San Francisco, this beach features a beautiful view, with an outdoor shower, bathrooms and potable water. There is also a great thrift store and market within walking distance.
Report Check-InConfirmed. Parked at 8, out by 8 am. Some highway noise from 1, but not bad.
