National Forest campground. Not sure this is overseen or observed by the local rangers. No campsite numbers; no payment envelopes or kiosk.
Nice location in the trees; small creek running beside our site. Some areas have a picnic table; a few have fire rings. There is a restroom available, but having a camper, I don’t know if it’s a pit toilet.
Only one other campsite is taken.
Report Check-InI see there have been no reports on this site since 2020 not sure if it had been closed at some point as it is clear that the camp ground was affected by the Dixie forest fire . Anyway it looks like the forestry crews have been in here clearing some trees. The pit toilets are still here but have not been maintained in quite sometime. We stayed one night , there are multiple nice level sites with fire ring and pic nic tables the road in is in good shape I’ll post a photo when I get cell service.
Report Check-InBeautiful. Why would anyone stay in the National Park down the road? Mid-August and there are four campsites filled. A dozen empty spots. Creek is beautiful. So quite. Close enough to road to feel safe. Is this really free? It was for us this one night.
Report Check-InWe found a free spot here after finding all the paid walk-ins were taken at Butte Lake campground during a busy July 4th weekend. What a great spot. And free! Better than the paid campgrounds as you are much more spread out. Fire ring. Cute little creek. Great base of operations to visit Cinder Cone in the morning before the crowd.
Report Check-InIt's a gem. Tranquil with water, tables and fire pits. I'll be back again.
Report Check-InBeautiful location along the creek. Lots of sites to choose from and not busy.
Report Check-InWe were one of only two campers here with DOZENS of spots to chose from. Beautiful location. The only downfall is the bathrooms were pretty gross, i stuck to digging a hole. Right down the road from Cinder Cone Trailhead.
Report Check-In10 campsites along butte creek. No fee, 14 day stay limit. Fire rings, picnic tables, and two pit toilets.
