The "argument" has apparently been settled. We asked a friendly young man who lives in the house above the pool if we could swim and spend the night there and he said no problem as long as we didn't leave any rubbish behind. As if overlanders would do something like that... so we enjoyed a wonderful swim and had a great spot with a fantastic view.

This place is permanently closed.

Report Check-In

Closed - not allowed for tourists - conflict between 2 communitys.

We arrived around 4pm and there was a (drunk) man, I don’t think it was the dad mentioned below, because he wanted money and wasnt really friendly. First he said 20 BOL, than 10.
There was also a couple from netherlands and she told us, that he touched her breast. Later he also touched my arm, even my partner was next to me. Careful solo female travellers!

Around 7pm a ranger came and told us, that the place is closed (due to a conflict between 2 communitys) and that we should leave. We told him about the guy who just collected our money - he filmed us explaining the situation, told us to leave and looked for the man (who was gone at the moment).

We decided to stay, because it was already getting dark and we also had some beers.

Next Morning, at 6 am another ranger came. He knew that the other ranger sent us away yesterday and wanted us to leave immediatly - otherwise we should pay a fine.

So unfortunatly the whole pool is closed- Even if it doesnt look like this or a drunk guy is collecting money - its not offical! Respect the locals and go to the other hot springs!

Apparently closed!

We camped here and spend the evening in the pool. There was a men, who collected 10bol for the 4 of us and said it was okay to camp here.
After a couple of hours a ranger appeared and told us that the pool is closed due to a dispute between two communities. We told him that we paid and the other guy told us it was okay to park and he left.

The next day a ranger showed up at 6am and kicked us out of the place. Very beautiful but strange place.

The men, who collected the money also touched a woman inappropriately, which gave us an odd feeling also well. There was no family in sight.

This is definetely in my TOP 10 campspots after a year and a half travelling. Just a dream camp. You can level with rocks in front of the cristal clear pool. Temperature is great, I would guess around 35 but there are 2 hot springs in the pool by 38 or 40. The gentleman living in the house came to say hello and sit with us for some time but asked nothing, he also commented people camp here. I would say that sharing something woulf be nice, maybe leave what you can't cross to Chile. Enjoy this wonderful "attraction" campspot!

What a great place! There is a family of 6 taking care of the place. 4 children aged ~4 to 14. We let the oldest boy use our starlink and you should have seen the smile on his face. Gave bird whistle gifts to the others and any food we thought might be confiscated in Chile to the mom. If you pass this way, please give them what you can. They will be grateful.

We spent a very relaxed afternoon and evening here.

Enjoy!

Report Check-In

Maybe it used to be as hot as the paid one, but it's not any more. Still nice, but worth the dollar to go to the paid one unless it is full of people already.

Report Check-In

We slept a night here one night and enjoy the hotspring.

I will tell our experience- yours may vary widely.
The lower road was blocked but is now passable. The pool is complete and holding water. Clean and refilling steadily. There is natural algae growing on the sides and steps.
We arrived at 4:30 and found a flat place to park. We entered the pool and stayed until the sun was gone behind the hill. It was amazing to watch the flamingos move closer and see the colors in the sky.
In the morning (around 9) a truck dropped off a family and they entered the rock house. The man came over to say hello. He asked for nothing except that we do not leave trash. They used the pool and the house. We gave some toys to the kids and then left.

Quiet night- but many tour trucks passed at about 9pm and again at 6am.

Absolutely no services. No cell signal. No bathrooms- make a plan for your poop. No trash cans- take it with you.
Perhaps if we can leave this paradise unspoiled, it can continue to be used by us. Respect the owners and the natives.

Report Check-In

Closed. Road accesses blocked. Pool destroyed.

Report Check-In

This pool looked really amazing, very close to the lake, infinity border. But it edge is broken and the way to reach it is blocked. We asked some locals, and they told us this is was because a "fight" for the pool property between two villages.
Sad, because it seemed to be a very beautiful place, and there is still hot water in the pool.

The pool is empty and a little scary looking. Maybe it’s different if/when the laguna water level is higher. As of now though, I’d argue this is closed!

Report Check-In

Still free. Some local people, who where hanging around in the wind shelter tried to charge us (: but after a small talk they said that this pool will also belong to the paid Aguas Calientes closed by soon.

Unfortunately they destroyed the natural pools to build a bigger, concrete one using the same warm-water stream. Still beautiful, but a bid sad.

Report Check-In

Beautiful hot springs (infinity pool with view on the turquoise laguna with flamingos. Unfortunately it was quite windy when we were there and the aguas termales are rather warm than hot - but that’s complaining on a high level ;-) Not many level spots to park.

Report Check-In

Tue to Wed we were the only ones here, except for Vicuñas and Flaminos. Spent the late afternoon and the next day until after lunch here. SIMPLY PERFECT.

(Changed this from „Attraction“ to „Wild Camping“ with warm showers - hope that is OK and enables other overlanders to more easily find this spot.)

Report Check-In

On Saturday the place was packed! Not with the tour groups but with locals.

Report Check-In

A Ranger came by and told us to leave within 15 min or we have to pay a fine!! So we went to the parkinglot of the thermas!

Report Check-In

Still there, free and absolutely amazing! One of the best wildcamp spots ever!!

Report Check-In

Awesome infinity thermal pool. We had a blast, still free. The paid ones were packed and we had this place to ourselves. Camped just across the Laguna.

Report Check-In

Drove by it on the high road. Looked nice and still void of tourists. Looks to be still free and remote!

Report Check-In

Stayed here for a night. Quiet and level spot and the thermal bath is just a bonus. For now it is for free but it looks like they are building a place to charge/for tour jeeps. But then again, who builds an infinity hot pool in the middle of nowhere just for fun? ;)

Report Check-In

Looks like construction finished. They built a good size infinity-style pool, very pretty. Nobody was there to charge me or to make me put on swimming trunks, though the sign from the construction are still up - safety helmet and safety clothes are mandatory. Lol.
Several Jeep Tours drove by on the upper road but none of them stopped here.

Report Check-In

Looks like this is no longer going to be a free hot springs... came past on easter Saturday ready for a wash and there's a tented workforce of about 40. wheelbarrows, pick axes etc. Definitely building something!

Report Check-In

Less deep, less hot, no sun in late afternoon. We prefered the other one. And in fact nobody made us paid. May be after 4 pm, there is nobody for that.

Report Check-In

Nice little pool with „warm/hot“ water :) - enjoy!

Report Check-In

Beautiful spot all to myself in the hot water. Recommend checking this place out!!!

Report Check-In

Stopped by but pools were only warm and not very deep. View of lake was beautiful.

Report Check-In

Looks like these hot springs are given up as well as the road to it. But you can easily walk down from the new road to bath in the last remaining about 30℃ 50cm deep pool big enough for 2-3 persons.

Report Check-In

Exactly what we needed after 4 days on the laguna route without a shower. It's just one small pool big enough for two and not very deep, and just warm enough to be comfortable for 20-30 mins in the cold wind. but still it was such a treat being in hot water with views of the snow capped mountains, the laguna and a few flamingos! And we didn't want to join the crowds in the other hot springs up the road. Think you could probably park and camp here, the closeby ranger station looked closed when we were there.

Report Check-In

beautiful! we tried to camp there but a 'ranger' came along and told us we need to sleep either at the offical springs or another refugio..
