Description

MTC shop where you can buy a sim card. At the moment big queues everywhere for sim card registration, didn't want to wait, just adding the place.

We waited in line for 6 hours. So if you don’t desperately need internet right after the border I‘d get it somewhere else. There weren’t even that many people in line but it took approximately 30 minutes per customer.

there is always a huuuuuuuge queue in front of the mtc shops... like min 2h! an alternative is to buy a TN sim card to the guy in the streets, they don't require activation! then you go to the pick n pay nearby to buy a data bundle. we got the Fiva plus for 40$ which give you 5G + 250 minute + 100sms. The guy who sells the sim card helped us in that process. The network of TN might have a less good coverage than mtc but you don't need to wait hours to activate it and the bundles are cheaper.

I tried the below comment trick with no luck.
We have to queue and have our SIM card purchased to the guy outside, took 2 hours 30…
No need to go to the police station, they managed with only our passeport.
20NAD for the SIM card, 65NAD for 3Go avalaible 7 days (super aweh).
You can buy up to 5 on the same time and active them when you wish.

Some shared advice :

In Namibia, you are supposed to register SIM cards with the police and with MTC. It makes for a very long process since you end up waiting at the police station and the MTC store. I’ve heard of people waiting up to 8 hours to get their SIM card working.
However, this can all be skipped by buying a SIM card and voucher codes from the guys outside the MTC store. They all said it wouldn’t work because it has to be registered with MTC. They were wrong. Simply put the SIM card in your phone, add the voucher codes (the instructions on how to do this is on the voucher card) and dial #682* to buy data (I found their AWEH SUPER subscription to be the cheapest for the most data).
The difference is simply that when you activate everything, the network your phone is on says: MTC - Please register SIM.
This changes nothing. We have been using our « unregistered » SIM cards for a few weeks and we get perfectly good 3G, 4G or LTE.

Hope this helps !
