Description

It's a huge parking lot. No car as we stayed here. There is a police station (and nothing more) so we asked if we could stay. No problem so we parked directly in front of the guard house.
The parking lot of the big shopping mall nearby closes at 1am. So we had no chance there. One walks in less than 10 minutes to Flores and for a Saturday night it's now super quiet. We stayed in Santa Elena because our rig weights 8 tons. We saw a little sign at the traffic lights where you would pull in to cross the bridge saying 3,500 kg max. We are slightly over that ;)

Big parking lot where you have a nice view on the lake. Pretty quiet, nice wake up with the sound of the birds and had the visit of a pig eating the trash!

Report Check-In

Large free parking with access to the lake but I won’t swim here. Felt safe. Can be noisy as it’s next to a landing strip for planes and helicopters.
15 minutes walk to the beautiful town of Flores. I recommend to go at sunset!

Report Check-In

We stayed here 3 nights and was very quiet we even inflated our kayak and used it at the lake access at the end of the parking lot police were super friendly and told us our van is safe and secure if we want to walk to the island.

Report Check-In

We stood here for 3 nights, ideal for exploring Flores, in walking distance.Laundry about 300m away
and for visitTikal 60km. Quite during the night until 7am, then the airplanes start from the appropiate airport. Felt very safe.

Report Check-In

very good and secure place!! super to go to the Island per foto, 10 min.
talk with the Police men, very frendley!!

Report Check-In

We spent 2 nights in this public parking lot. Ideal for exploring the small island of Flores on foot. Minibuse and larger vehicles are not allowed on the island and it is also not recommended because the streets are narrow and there are only a few parking spaces.
This parking lot is usually empty, in the evening a few dogs and children who play. But the parking lot is directly under the approach path of the international airport. About 10 planes a day that fly very low and therefore very loudly over you. It didn't bother us, but if you are sensitive to noise, it may not be the place for you.

Stayed one night to visit Flores.
It’s in walking distance around 15min. Night was quite and good. Only if you get close to the fence, the dogs are going to be angry and loud.

Partly flooded at the moment in the far side to the lake (must have rained a ton in the last weeks). Everything is in walking distance around.
Remember to bring your passport if you head to the mall to get a SIM-Card 😄

large clean parking lot, safe - asked if we could stay overnight - friendly police ladies had no objections. Quiet apart from the fact that the airport is quite close but there was only 1 plane landing in the evening.

Great spot. Free. Very safe with the police station right there and you are right on the water. Walking distance to Flores island and groceries. You can also get a SIM card and airtime at the nearby Claro store. If you want third party liability insurance, that is available at Seguro Todo Riesgo. See the post for that nearby on IOverlander. Great first stop in Guatemala.

Great place to park overnight when visiting Flores. Families park here in the evening when it’s cool to exercise and let their kids bike around. Quiet and safe at night. Spent two nights here. Unsure about the bathroom/shower facilities because we didn’t ask. But the gate was locked most of the time.

Report Check-In

Good parking lot to stay overnight more overlanders here. Toilets are from the pool, but no running water. Only buckets to flush

Report Check-In

Great spot, safe and quiet, showers and toilet are clean but no water so you need to use the drum filled with water as you enter to flush.
We took a bucket and just used the cubicals to shower.

Report Check-In

Great spot with water! The guard very friendly, near to flores island

As the description says you can still sleep for free. We visited other overlander points around and this is the most comfortable and very quiet, the only thing is that there are no showers, the bathrooms are dirty and the pool cannot be used. Just a good place to spend the night safe by being next to the police station.

Report Check-In

Quiet parking lot by the lake, right beside the sports Center and a police station. Policemen were very friendly. Restrooms and showers right by the municipal swimming pool, but not running water when we were there, so very dirty and smelly. No charge. Plane landing at the airport nearby in the morning. Very quiet and felt safe.

Quiet with occasional airplane landing overhead. Free pool and broken showers. Well water available. Police station helps to feel safe.

Asked the guard if we could park here (and stay overnight) since our rig is to big to go to Flores. He had to ask his supervisor. Came back and asked us to park in front of the guard shack, but in the middle aisle. They were also adamant that they were not responsible for anything.

Guard was very helpful in suggesting things to see in the area.

Report Check-In

Good Place to stay. Talked to the Security guard who said we should park directly infront of his house so he can watch our car during the night. Felt very safe and a 10 min walk to flores.

Report Check-In

We asked the police and it was ok to stay. A few airplanes in the morning.

Report Check-In

Great place to see Flores. Speak to the guys working there to check todo bien but they were happy just said not to park to close to the lake due to alligators! We walked to Flores from here, actually parked and slept right by the booth. FYI it is guarded all night and even let me use the loos at 12:30 as I was desperate and nowhere else was open! Free

Got noisy around 7 a.m. due to traffic and some religious shout and sing event at the convention centre. Free.
