Description

This is just one of many possible spots to camp for free. You can camp whereever you want in this forest. We saw around 40 motorhomes at different spots.
Follow country road 270 from road 285 to get there.

At the trailhead to Browns Creek, there is a pit toilet. The hike to the lake is 10km one way and 800m high difference. Took us 7h, very nice.

Very nice view, no problem with our RV for the way despite a little rain. lots of locations we drove a bit to get a spot but it was worth it.

Report Check-In

Large space away from road with two large fire rings but sloped and a challenge to level. Chosen for good service on Verizon. We didn't have service closer to the creek.

What a great place outside of BV and Salida. Big views, lots of options, level areas, cattle on the road, some traffic to the trailhead near by, mountains, ponderosas. Loved being here. I couldn't leave so i set up camp with a tent and explored the towns during the mornings and came back afterwards.

Incredibly sweet spot! Drive along 270, 272 or 274 and there are quite a few camping areas on either side of the road. Peaceful. Graded road. Pack in/out. No generators. Gorgeous here.

Easy access for big rigs before browns peak trail head. Multiple established sites far enough apart to feel private. The trail is very pretty and moderate 6mi hike to falls. Verizon 3 bars LTE

As others mentioned, nice area to camp with a lot of options down the road for sites. I would definitely recommend getting there early on the weekend as it gets pretty full. Unfortunately we came in on Saturday and had to drive a ways down the road where we could find a more secluded spot. The road is fairly rough but definitely doable. We saw a lot of big RVs and even 5th wheel campers going down the road. Access to Browns Creek Trail and others which were nice to explore. Stayed here 2 nights.

Great spot with a lot of option regarding where you want to park and privacy. We passed a few other campers but there was more than enough space down the road. Nice and quiet and a beautiful location in the woods, especially in winter. Man made fire pits, no toilets but you can drive back to the trail head for pit toilets. Full service LTE ATT.

Lots of dispersed camping in Brown’s Creek. Most of it is directly off the road, which can have a decent amount of traffic. But some sites are a bit off the road.

Trees are tall but not incredibly dense. Basically the only water source is Little Brown’s Creek right next to the trailhead. Campsites on either side of the trailhead, but a lot of the ones on the southern side are on a rougher road with less trees.

Large daytime parking area and toilets at trailhead. Hike to waterfalls is about 3 miles and 1,000 elevation gain. Continue up another 3.5 miles and 1,500 feet elevation gain to get to the lake. Can backpack in the area and park at trailhead.
