Kings Point public picnic area and bathrooms . What a great spot for a night (or two!) With possibly the nicest public bathrooms we have ever seen. They are super clean, have hot and cold water and have a sauna feel to them.
We parked at the bathrooms and had a beautiful view of the water, access to many picnic tables and there’s also a little cook shelter as well.
It’s right next to the Whale Pavilion which has a full-size humpback whale skeleton inside. $5 entrance fee.
There are a few cute little shops in town but not much else. We found this place quite by accident and enjoyed our stay a great deal. Some locals ( old men) gathered in their cars right beside us last night but after their chat it was quiet all night despite being right on the main road through town.
There’s a little wharf for gazing at the water, fishing etc and some garbage cans as well.
The RV park just up the road has a dump station and water fill.
There is NO overnight parking on the pavement in front of the museum and washrooms. However, parking is ok on the gravel over by the town picnic tables and the sign with all the distances to other places.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Stayed at this location as described in previous comment (not next to the whale centre, we stayed down the road on the gravel next to the food truck which has closed for the season. Parked in front of the colourful City sign). Quiet night, we weren't bothered by anyone. Public toilets by the whale centre were open all night, and they were by far the cleanest and most stylish public toilets we have ever used.
Report Check-InThis area IS open, despite what others have said. There is an area of picnic tables next to the whale skeleton museum along with washrooms. There is a "no overnight" parking sign posted by the town.
Just before it and one building away, there is a gravel area with a boat launch, town picnic tables and a food vendor. This area is NOT posted as "no overnight" and you can stay there overnight as we did. You can still walk over to the washrooms in less than a minute.
You can stay overnight anywhere in Newfoundland on crown, or public property unless a municipality has posted "no overnight" signs. You can verify this with any RCMP (police) officer.
There is an excellent craft shop across the street that has the work of several hundred newfoundland artists. This is one of the finest art shops you will ever see and it is absolutely stuffed with items.
The whale museum is worth a look. The skeleton display is excellent.
