Chile
(Jan 2020). Modern new refugio, with bright windows, pit toilet, table, benches and loft for sleeping (3 sleeping bags). No water. There was an extra old shelter 20m west, on the E side of which one could pitch several tents. There was a lean-to where one could store one's bikes.
Note: I confirmed the location of Refugio6. It is as shown in table at left. The location specified on Dec 8th 2019 (-53.32103, -68.83145) is incorrect. This was the location of Refugio5, which no longer exists. It was likely moved to its present location, 1 km E of the old Refugio5, to be visible to folk traveling N-S on Y891.
(Original entry). We stopped here when it got dark. There is a grassy path going away from the street for about 50m. Visible from the road but almost no traffic at night and therefore very quiet.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Okay state, both the toilet and entry door are there and working. There is one bench left, most of the windows are or boarded up, wind proof. No ladder to the sleeping platform.
Rubbish inside but still usable. You can try to climb on the platform or sleep on the floor.
Report Check-InFound the Refugio in good condition. The pit toilet was clean and in a usable state. I used the small bench to make the access to the top platform easier. Calm and refreshing night before a long day to Rio Grande.
Report Check-InNice and clean. Reasonably warm and fully wind protected. Still no ladder to top floor but you can climb from the table.
Report Check-Inwe passed 3 shelters of this today and this one was that one in the best condition. unfortunately the ladder to the first flor is missing so its bit hard to climb up but its possible. we cleanded it a little bit. would be nice if everyone who come here can clean it just a little bit to keep that nice shelter as good as it is. thanks
Report Check-InFine for a night. I slept on the ground floor. I have no idea how you could climb up to the mezzanine without the ladder, as the table is not directly below it. Maybe a much taller person could do it! Window is fixed, although just with corrugated metal and plastic, not glass. Very little draft comes through.
Report Check-InPerfect refugio (as mentioned window is repaired). Only the ladder to the secound floor is missing. But if you managed to cylcle until here you most probably will be able to climb up (over the table). We had a very nice night.

Window repaired and place cleaned, ok to sleep inside. There is still a table
nice Refugio, quite clean, but the wood stove is missing now. still quite warm
Report Check-InI was on a solo bike tour from Ecuador to Ushuaia. I spent the afternoon here. Nice refugio. New design. Clean. No bugs. Loft with space for 3 sleeping bags. Table. Benches. Wood stove (the only one since Porvenir). Broom. Door & many windows. Pit toilet. No water. Old shed with lean-to next door (rain shelter for bikes). Located 100m E. of junction of Y-895 & 257-CH.
Report Check-Inthe refugio is in great condition, very clean, we had a great night staying here!
Report Check-InThis place is in wrong location - it is located at -53.32103, -68.83145
Report Check-InThis place is incredible ! brand new refugio with garbage cans, toilets, table, fireplace and mezzanine to sleep. Very clean and comfortable. please keep this place clean!!
Report Check-InDidn't stop and just drove past but the road is definitely open (surface still bad!) and the 'bus stop' or tin shack is still standing.
Bit of a bleak place to stay for a night but looks like it would serve its purpose.
Rather unhelpful / confusing marking a place as 'permanently closed' when there is only temporary work being done btw
Report Check-InThis place is no longer accessible since they are laying a new road surface.
