Latest Check-Ins

prices have gone up -200 pesos per person per night. easier access to cantina. cantina restrooms now accessible from the restaurant side. hot showers are upstairs in the dorms. let them know about 10 minutes before you want to use them so the water can heat up.

Report Check-In

Latest update. Campground still open. 150 pesos per person. They will probably not come collect.

But the police might come by if you are camped directly on the bluff (on the left side of the road)....and attempt to charge you 150 pesos per car. Just tell them that you paid the campsite already 150 pesos.

There are 3 or 4 new cops here, and they are trying to make some extra money.

I dry camped right on Point 2 for two nights, 150 p/n per person. The cantina is open, but fenced off such that you need to walk all the way round the back side and either go between the barbed wire at the gate or go all the way around to another gate. The ladies at the cantina are very nice and helpful. Downstairs bathrooms are closed, but upstairs bathrooms are open and included in camping, as is wifi, which works best in the middle of the night when no one else is using it. No cell signal. No hassle from anyone. Surf was really small and according to locals, the sand has washed out from points one to three and it only breaks when it's bigger and low tide. Still, a peaceful spot and nice people.

Second time at Scorpion Bay. This time the campground was much less populated. Still $150 pesos per person. Showers and bathrooms in the cantina. Pay in the cantina for camping. They will give you a thing to put in your car windshield saying you paid. If the waves are firing, this is such a great place to surf. If not, walk on the beach, get wifi in the cantina, read a book..

This spot seems to be a confusion for everyone as to what is going on. When you enter the area you see a scorpion bay camping sign with spots on the ocean side and road side. As you continue down the road what I assumed to be the restaurant is on the right. There is a fence separating it from the road at the point. The point to the lighthouse had a few people spending the night and after the light house is the start of the fancy houses in a no camping zone. We stayed at the campground on the ocean side and weren’t bothered. Nobody came to collect pesos and the “restaurant” didn’t look open. The second night the police came by at 11pm but headed to the point passed the fancy houses. They passed by again around 20 minutes later to go back to town and didn’t stop. We spoke to several of the expats in the area and nobody seems to know what is happening with the campground and if it still is a campground or it is being re-zoned. The spot is nice but there are no toilets that I could see

The highway to San Juanito from ciudad is paved the entire way. There are a few spots where there are big potholes, or it is down to one lane due to erosion or sand. Near town there is a bridge that is out. It is marked by orange rocks but is not very obvious until you see the detour

we've been here about a week. $300 pesos per night total for the two of us. since the land dispute the exterior bathhouse is closed. they closed two dorm rooms and you can use the restroom in those instead. wifi and trash included. very sad to see how the property dispute is hurting the campground. cantina workers are super nice and the place is a gathering point for the community.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for three weeks and we had a awesome time. The fence is nearly finished, therefore if you want to drive to the Cantina Cafe just stay on the main road in San Juanico after it gets gravel again. You will reach the cafe from the inland. To reach the campground you have to drive back to the village and take the road that’s close to the ocean. But if it isn’t necessary for you to drive to the cafe, just drive to campground first and walk to the cafe to pay (still 150 Pesos per night and person), there is a pathway for pedestrians. The Wi-Fi at the cafe is fast and the showers are hot.

Report Check-In

We were told by long term campers that as of today (12/20/22) people were no longer permitted to camp on the ocean side of the road running through the camp, or anywhere surrounding the cantina. And that police would be coming by in the evenings to make people move, with a plan to fence off the whole area surrounding the cantina before Christmas. Fine by us, except that the spots inland are totally covered with prickly balls. No bueno for our two 4-legged friends as they couldn’t even hop out of the car without their paws getting stabbed :( headed down the beach instead where there’s ample free camping and sand.

Report Check-In

Open camping on the bluffs overlooking the bay. Restaurant and bar. Surfing, kite surfing, wind surfing.

Report Check-In

Great spot on the cliffs overlooking the surf.
Spent 3 nights. Wind picked up and were stuck in our camper one day with windows closed to stop the sand blowing everywhere.

Report Check-In

This place is great, it’s cliff side camping above the surf break with bathrooms, cold showers, trash cans, and a restaurant open breakfast lunch, and dinner. Slow internet as well, no charge. Good for paddle boarding too.

Report Check-In

The drive from the south is fine for the first 50km from Cd Insurgentes but then terrible pot holes. Be careful.
Reaching here is so worth the drive. Empty, open, barren, beautiful. A little tricky to find but follow the main road through town. Camping on the bluff over a rocky bay. Only 8 of us here.
Big open showers, trash, cantina.
150 pesos per night. Dog friendly.

Report Check-In

Great place. Wish we had stayed longer. Everyone was super friendly. Let’s all aim to keep it that way!

Report Check-In

Beautiful bluff top spots overlooking the bay. Road is easy access, sandy. Showers, toilets and wifi available at restaurant. No c ell coverage on Verizon. Charge 150 pesos per person.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for one night. Nice view and the cost was 150p per person per night. If you want a hot shower, then it is an extra 50p.

Report Check-In

Awesome spot, please support them even if it is a bit more money than what you’re used to paying in Baja. Condos? No thanks!

Report Check-In

Not a good swell but friendly people. We had a good time but internet was not good enough so we could work while waiting for a swell. It’s very confortable. Pay at the restaurant particularly if you don’t eat there so you pay for garbages cleaning, showers (mostly cold) laundry. There are some palapa but it’s 30$us. But if you don’t have a tent and don’t want to camp out it’s a decent alternative to hotel (fresh in winter at night!) for surfers.

Report Check-In

Really nice dry camping spots up on the shore overlooking the bay. The ladies at the restaurant consistently put out amazing meals on seperate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and there are cold showers included, there is a nice private bathroom, with sink, toilet and hot shower available for 50pesos. They do charge 150 pesos ($8) per person for camping which seems fair enough considering there's wifi, they need to truck in the freshwater and haul out your trash. Talked with a few campers who were quite proud to have camped without paying at the restaurant, not cool.

There was no cell coverage while we were there, and there in no ATM in town, so come prepared.

Report Check-In

slept here one night. asked around about payement and got all different answers.
But there are sighs around saying that the cost is 150 pesos (doesnt say per car or person) and you have to go pay at the restaurant. anyhow, we just camped for free ;)

Report Check-In

Nice facilities and a good location for the surf. But can't really say 150 per person per night is a fair price. Its pretty steep.
There are signs all over the camping area now that state the price and that you should pay in advance at the resturant.
Better to pay 20 pesos for the shower and sleep at the iOverland spots near by on the beach.

Report Check-In

Stayed here for a week.
Beautiful place. We did not pay on arrival (150 pesos per person a night) After two days someone came to collect fees back dated from when we arrived. There is no atm in town so we gave them our remaining pesos which was not enough for the two nights we had stayed there. The guy collecting the camp fee said he would come back the next day to collect the remaining fee. We stayed another 5 days and he did not return to collect any more fees. After talking with other long term campers, it is legitimate that you must pay, however the guy collecting the camp fees only comes around about once a week. Some people can stay for a week and not be asked to pay, and others will be asked so it ia really hit and miss.

Having looked into it, the restaurant pays a lease for the camp ground. The restaurant provides clean toilets and showers and wifi (very slow). We were told if they are unable to maintain their lease, there is a company waiting to take over the lease and are planning to build 400 condos.

Each to their own but perhaps if you stay there for more than a few days and use their facilities, maybe just offer some pesos before you leave if you havent been asked to pay a fee.

Report Check-In

Absolute beautiful place!! Don’t be scared off by the signs saying it’s 150 pesos a night per person. The guy from the restaurant has absolutely no authority to charge anybody as long as you are not using his amenities. We stayed 2 nights and never showed our face at the restaurant. No one came asking for money, probably cause he knows he can only charge for when you use the bathroom/ showers or wifi.
No waves at all. Hope you will have more luck!!

Report Check-In

Absolutely loved this campsite! You are perched on a cliff above point 2. Great view and people watching from every campsite. There were about 10-15 other rigs up here when we visited. Which was nice to have other people around. We did not get charged anything. I used the bathroom a couple of times and no one asked for money. Don’t get turned off by the sign asking for you to pay at the cantina, almost everyone we talked to did not pay. There are so many great surf breaks, all within walking distance. Could happily stay here for months. Easy walk to town from campsite. Very safe. Farmers markets are in the school every Friday morning. Worth going to get fresh produce.

Report Check-In

We did not stay.
They wanted to charge us $150mxn PER PERSON, not per unit.
Talking to someone else there, the showers are cold and they limit the wifi.
We went down a little south of town and stayed for free right on the beach.

Report Check-In

Lots of campsites on this side of the bay. We paid 300 pesos for the two of us, with nice flush toilets at the nearby cantina. I just had the most delicious fish tacos! Plus the Margaritas are high octane! The people who run the cantina and campgrounds are really sweet! We came south from Campo Kuyima, about a 3 hour drive on dirt/ rock roads. We turned right to get here, once we got to town.

Report Check-In

Awesome spot! Camped along point 2. No one collected money from us the 3 nights we stayed. About 5 other groups camping along the point, spread out though so we had our own space. Great surfing - we have 1 board but rented 1 board from the El Burro restaurant in town for $250 pesos/day. Probably could have negotiated that lower but didn’t. No cell service at Scorpion Bay and though finding reliable WiFi in town. We bought fresh lobster from the fisherman down at point 1 - $200 pesos for 2 lobster. Overall, great spot to spend a couple days (or more!).

Report Check-In

Famous, well-trodden surf spot and camp site. We camped near the restaurant and were never asked to pay. We went in, ate, paid to use the bathrooms, but never we’re asked about camping fees. Maybe the policy has changed? All in all, perfect spot if you want to surf this magical wave.

Report Check-In

We camped in our van on the cliff side directly in front of the surf break, from what I can understand the restaurant only charges if you camp near it or near the bungalows. Loads of people camping along the cliff edge and point, I doubt anyone here pays anything. Absolutely beautiful spot, watch the waves from your window and enjoy the serenity! I recommend this place even if you aren’t surfing just for the views and amazing parking :)

Report Check-In

Amazing wild spot for surfing. One of the best in Baja for sure.

If you are coming from the South, don't follow Googlemaps, turn left on the Barrancas exit and follow the San Juanico signs. The road is completly paved.

We stayed here for 2 weeks and nobody came to collect our money. Some friends went by the restaurant to eat something and the guy told them to pay for the camping, so our advice would be avoid the restaurant if you, like us, think that the price is too high for what you get!

We asked if we could pay a smaller fee for the use of toilets and showers but they said no. Since we have our own toilet in our camper, 150MP/per person per night is simply ridiculous just for parking, comparing to prices in the rest of Mexico.

Besides, you are camped next to a small public dirt road that leads North of town, to different surfing spots and privates homes, so it could be public land. We think that's why they don't come to collect the money, maybe they don't have the right to, or who knows. Anyways, the place is gorgeous!!!

No cell service around, just some Telcel signal in front of Hotel 7 Puntas / Lupita shop but no internet. They offer slow wifi in town (20 minutes walk) and international calls at a small shop called Diconsa.

Every friday there is a farmer's market by the school.

Also, if you need to refill your propane gas tank, you can do it at Camacho's, first road to the right when you get to town, there is a small tienda in the corner.

Report Check-In

This place is just an awesome spot for people who surf! The surf spot is just perfect for beginners but there are also many locals people coming here and it's nice to meet people.
It's 150 pesos per person but nobody when to collect the money. You can see the sign to your right when you enter in the property. We also saw a whale while paddling here!

Report Check-In

Fits the bill! Nice bathrooms/showers and slow wifi available at the Cantina (rumor of good food too); spot is situated right on an amazing beginner longboard spot; watch your stuff though, theft of non-locked/unattended gear the last few evenings, police patrolling more frequently as a result-- we've had no issues personally, and have felt very safe

Report Check-In

Restaurant charges 150 pesos per person, but they don't seem too interested in collecting the money. Cold showers, clean bathrooms. We parked it what it seems like outside their property so I ended up paying only 20 pesos per person for the use of the bathroom

Report Check-In

Best place to learn to surf, 4 + point breaks progressively more difficult as you head out of town. The restaurant on point break 2 charges 150 pp per day if you camp on that point. Otherwise all free camping along the coast.
Bring sone serious shade structures. Bathrooms for free from restaurant on break 2, and showers for 20 pesos. They also have wifi.... But not really functional. Another small tienda in town has better wifi, brick building.
Only gasolina in town, no diesel!

Report Check-In

plenty of free camping with view of the surf. pick your point and camp in front. can get crowded with a good swell. free public restrooms and showers for campers. restaurant close by.
*Update* The restaurant charges $150 pesos a night. Has internet, and owns the Bathroom/showers. We never went in there, and no one came by to collect money, so we may have been camped just outside of there property, but there is no way of telling. If you go in there they will happily take your money.
