Description

Checked in 5/30/2022 at 1am. completely empty area. During my travels I've come to notice that trailheads seem to be a good place to camp for the night. Being memorial day, other places marked on this app had multiple vehicles already there. Much less road noise than the other ones that are off the side of I-80. A beautiful view of the stars right before the light pollution of Reno. However, this is directly along the train tracks, and a train does come through multiple times. It's not a long train, and better than hearing semis all night. There was a porta potty and hand wash station. Potty was locked though. Also, there's a sign pointing in the direction of the trailhead across the tracks, but another sign that says do not cross the tracks. I found it confusing and went over the tracks anyhow and that's clearly the trail. Pretty streams.

Huge spot large enough for many vans or to spread out, much larger than the little ones heading in. Flat area with views of the river. I80 is across the canyon and can be heard with your windows open, but not closed. Trains go by just yards away, we only had two around 10pm and one around 7am. Perfect access to the trail for hiking, biking, fishing.

great spot for the night. Reno was proving difficult to get a good spot for the night so this was a great backup for only being 20min outside of the city. train only came by once at night. nice to wake up to the sound of the river. no knock no problems

We chose the trailhead out of the 3 spots along the Truckee. It had the most room and was the easiest to find a level spot.
One loud train during the night but not really an issue for us.
Now on to Lassen Volcanic NP.

Closer to houses than I usually like, but not in direct view. One other van stayed the night, and I didn’t have any issues. The train is very loud, but it didn’t wake me up.

Trailhead parking next to railroad tracks. Checked in 6pm Saturday in our 21’ van; lot was about 1/3 full at that time, apparently people hiking and fishing. No one else stayed the night. It can probably accommodate up to 25’ but longer than that might have trouble turning around. 3-4 bars Verizon LTE. The river below was running high and partly covered freeway noise from across the canyon. We counted 6 trains, including one late at night and one early in the morning, so that is an issue if you need uninterrupted sleep. They do sound their horns when approaching this crossing. Tip: park in the far (south) end of the lot for less crowding and a nice view south up the canyon.

Free. Don’t see “No Parking” signs. Stayed at the trailhead area just before the train track crossing. Pretty big area that could fit about 8-10 cars. One other truck joined later in the night

Right near the train tracks but at least they don’t do their whistle at the location. 3 trains came by from about 7-830p but then only one in the middle of the night. Some traffic sound of the 80 but I had a nice sleep

Couple hikers arrived a little after 7a

No amenities. Next to a river though. T-Mobile 2 bars

The train is sooooo loud. Would not recommend. Stayed for a couple hours and left.

Pretty quiet by the trailhead. A few other cars were there, but they had been hiking the trail and weren’t there in the morning. One train came by in the middle of the night but that was it.
