Burtons Shore Beach | Wild Camping

Used to get a basket of clams here on saturday mornings before the house in the marsh was built,and most of beach closed off. Still a decent and rare public place on the seaside to watch a sumrise,catch a few fish or launch a kayak.It has changed a lot,and trash has been a problem here for years ,as well as many like myself who always try to clean up after the disrespectful people who leave it laying here.Its not just campers leaving trash unfortunatly.
If this wonderful little spot ends up closed,it wont happen with out exposure and a legal battle i presume.
The most info I can find on this says that Mr.Burton dedicated this place to the people of Virginia a long time ago.

Adjacent landowner here. While I respect the community and lifestyle of overlanders, this location is becoming crowded with as many as 5 RVs/campers staying and blocking access for locals, as well as leaving trash and occasionally gray water/waste dumped on the premisis. This is unacceptable.
Unfortunately if this issue cannot be resolved, the county will be enforcing no camping. I hope that there can be some sort of communication and coordination to ensure this area remains a secluded oasis without preventing locals from accessing.

As described wonderfully peaceful place down long secluded road. Park right on beach, 2wd fine as long as stay on hard pack. Only one here overnight. Cars pull down and hangout then leave until about 2000, no trouble, no one through night. Some peoples with dogs in morning, very friendly. 3 bars ATT. Rare find on east coast to have waterview that is not private property.

tots gorgeous! the water is so calm that it looks like the edge of the world. saw the sunrise and sunset and it was magical. stayed one night in a car, there was another person there too. no problems. blanch out

Easily in our top 3 park-ups. This place is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful. No other vans/campers during our stay. 2 bars Verizon, 4 bars with booster. 7-10 Mbps hotspot. Some people trickle in and out on bikes or in cars. Had a car stay in the lot with us overnight. Not a huge lot, could accommodate maybe 4 small rigs. Trash cans available, Walmart about 20 mins away for groceries. KEEP THIS SPOT CLEAN SO IT LASTS. It says it all over the concrete barriers outside if you forget I said it!

This place is wonderful. Several locals were here during the evening and then in the morning but all were friendly

Le meilleur spot, tranquille bercé par les vagues et les criquets suivi d’un magnifique levé du soleil. Un peu de mouvement en soirée, mais le calme pour la nuit. Les moustiques sont bien féroces.

lovely place. feels like you have your own beach. sometimes a local come at the beach for a walk or fishing. a local told us to check the hightights.

Really quiet, très tranquille. Éloigné de la route, quelques marcheurs en soirée, qui doivent venir avec leur véhicule avant de repartir. Ne vous stationnez pas trop près de l'eau, il y a une marée et le sable est plutôt mou. Dans mes favoris!

Lovely spot with room for 3-4 vans/trucks. 2wd fine. Mosquitoes aplenty so bring your spray and/or nets.

Small beach far from main roads. Seems to be the place where the locals go when car riding. If you easily feel unsafe, that's not for you, but we found the poeple we talked to friendly.

Nice little beach side spot where dogs are allowed. We had a night there in off season ( may ) not easy to Uturn for trailers or big rig. Be careful of the tides and soft sand. Please respect the secret area.
