This is the end of the road! A huge landslide took away about 500 meters of the road about 300 meters down into the river. Happened in January 2022 and according to the locals, the government is working on fixing it and the locals don’t have the funds or materials… so it will probably remain closed for a long time… certainly the remainder of 2022 and probably beyond…
April 2023, closed
Juli 2023 open.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Road is open! But a big construction side with some waiting times in single-lane traffic.
Report Check-InRoad is still collapsed, but possible to go on a good 4x4. RV and heavy campers might not make up the hill to go around.
I was able to get attached to a cable with GSA1200, but wouldn’t do it again. (It was fun nevertheless)
@andreinotes
closed for one year.
encore fermée pour un an de travaux.
cerado por un ano.
For pedestrians, motorcycles and bicycles, it is possible to pass via a small cable car. Prices and schedule in photo. By bike, they only charged us the pedestrian price.
Report Check-InRoad update: we talked to several locals. All told us that this part of the road will potentially be closed permanently. The terrain is very fragile, therefore they are building a new road to circumvent this area. Will take probably several years to re-open though. To get to Lago Agrio/ Nueva Loja you will need to take the southern road through Coca.
Report Check-InRoad still collapsed. For pedestrians and motorbikes there's a somewhat sketchy cablecart. Was able to cross with my RE Himalayan (230kg's) motorbike by hanging it on the outside of the cablecart. Costs 8 dollars. unsure if there's a possibility for regular vehicles to drive. There was a road leading down, but you will need 4x4 at least.
