Description

This is a great spot on a ridge where you can see the city valley on one side and endless rolling hills on the other. To get here you simply take Shaw Mountain Road to the top of the ridge and then a left on NF-374. At just under half a mile on NF-374 you'll see a turn-off to your left.

There is a slight incline here with a pretty decent size rock in the way, you definitely need 4x4 and a lift to get over it in order to get all the way up to the camp spot. It's only about 300 yards up this turnoff though so you could park off to the side of the trail and trek your gear up. We were in a leveled truck with rock sliders and we definitely landed on the rock when going over it, but the only "damage" was to the sliders.

From the top of this little hill there is a nice flat spot for a tent and a great view on both sides. This area is fairly heavily trafficked for off-roading vehicles, so lots of ATVs, dirtbikes and Jeeps go by on NF-374 during the day. Once night comes though it is peacefully quiet. Plus this spot sits above the trail with some decent coverage from shrubs and trees, so you are far enough away from the 4x4 action to avoid the dust kicking up into camp. Also, I did get 2 bars of Verizon coverage here.

Report Check-In

Excellent spot! Be prepared for a little incline hike up to the spot where it is semi flat with a great fire ring.
