Description

Open all year, this is a truly amazing campsite by the Zambezi River, right on the river so you are surrounded by animals all the time. Hippos and herds of elephants, even walking through the camp. At night we could hear hyenas and leopards. Ablutions are simple but clean and very well maintained. There's solar power at camping spots (they sometimes turn the generator on but it's not too loud) and great place to wash the dishes. There are many barbecue grills. You can store some food in their fridge to be safe from some hungry elephant at night. The 'Chili Bar and Cafe' area is really comfortable with few sofas to relax and free Wi-Fi. There's a very small pool but if you go during the week there's a good chance that the main house (Muchichili Safari House) is not booked so you can use the amazing pool there (300m away). Camping rates start at $15 pppn - self-camping, $30 pppn -rent-a-tent. They also have chalets. and an en-suite family room.

We recommend you give Ruth, the general manager a call at least 48hrs in advance before you arrive, if you want to eat at the cafe and if you want to use the plunge-pool. Phone/WhatsApp +260 975 777885

A very nice campsite just at the edge of the river, that’s sooo cool! We were witness of hippos, elephants everywhere in day and night. The pool is still empty and it’s now 15$ppn. The Airtel connexion is bad. The ablutions are cosy, well done and really original.

Nice little rustic camp right on the river. It’s quite basic but that being said we parked under a tree, on grass, with a fire pit, clean ablutions, hot water if we wanted and access to the lodge pool. So maybe not that rustic 😜. Had hippos in front of us and listened to lions roaring all night. Ruth the host is wonderful.

Amazing camp site!! Hippo’s saying hi every 5 minutes (beginning and end of day), lovely quiet place, nice trees (so definitely shades, don’t know who wrote there are no shades but our solar panels didn’t load as we parked under a tree lol). Sun places as well. You can rent a tent or a small hut to sleep. Clean kitchen space same as the outside ablusion - which was clean but very nice hot showers while standing in the sun 🥰 elephants stopped by near the camp site which was lovely, unfortunately we didn’t get as luck as some pictures I saw from people on Instagram with elephant NEAR your car. That was my dream (check out their location on Instagram to see these posts)

Absolutely lovely place to stay, lovely and welcoming staff and they even arranged WiFi for me as I had to work

Lovely spot as described by others below!! Don’t expect anything fancy, but enjoy the affordable spots close to the river and the wildlife walking around freely. Ruth is fantastic and the other staff is very welcoming and helpful as well.

Expected much more from the previous reviews. Very arbitrary place on the Zambezi. Dry grass, no shade, clean ablutions. Firepit is a small ring of stones and wood is 100KW a bundle. No wifi. Very bold elephants through camp at night.

Report Check-In

Very peaceful place.
The hippos are quite loud at night and we were waken by lions at 6AM !

The camp pool was empty so we could use the one from the villa, quite nice.

Report Check-In

Lovely spot and Ruth is a great host. Slept to the sound of hippos and ellies strolled through camp.

Report Check-In

Great spot next to the Zambezi river. One Hippo visited the camp and we saw lots of Elephants when entered/left the campsite.

Ruth and her staff are very friendly, we had a nice chat. Ablutions are good however showers are steaming hot or cold. Informed Ruth and she said that they are changing the valves soon to sort it. Apparently the monkeys figured out how to use them and now they’re playing with the cold water so much till the point that they destroy the valves 😅

As said below, drive to the park is still 2 hours. Paid $12 pppn. Recommended!

Really lovely campsite with super friendly staff, very peaceful on the Zambezi river and they even filled up the pool especially for us. About 45minutes from Chirundu.

Woods Camp is a lovely place on the Zambezi River. We camped under a huge thorn tree and is basically on the edge of the river! Ruth welcomed us. Ablutions basic but clean. Paid US12pppn and firewood were K50. Electricity at sites.

Nice campsite with clean ablutions, washing area and hot water. You’re right on the river full with hippos. Ruth is lovely and so is all the hardworking staff. They make a fire for you at night. $12 pppn is a little expensive, but still your best option in this area. Please note you’re still 1.5/2 hours away from the entree gate of Lower Zambezi National Park.

Our 3rd visit here as we travel around Africa and still 1 of our favourite campsites. Ruth and the team are just superb and of course the elephants came to visit! We watched them cross the river too! A lovely sunset cruise which I can highly recommend! 12 USD pppn.

Beautiful campsite right on the river. Clean ablutions, warm shower. Note that it takes more than 2 hours (up to 3) to reach the river crossing into Lower Zambezi Ntl park from here, on a very bad road. The most upstream crossing (out of 3) was passable when we visited. But it was too late by then to visit the park. Boat ride (Ruth organized for us) takes an hour to the park entrance. It's not cheap but much recommended, we saw a lot of wildlife.

Stunning campsite directly on the Zambezi, not many places that you get this. Plenty of wildlife around especially some very curious Elephants. We had 2 male lions that were roaring right through the night very close to camp and the birdlife is stunning. Ruth and staff are great!! We paid Zmw200 pppn and kids (11 and 13) camped free. Only downside is the extremely expensive boat ride; we paid Zmw3,200 for the 4 of us!! We took the Leopards Hill road from Lusaka (with a trailer) and it was challenging, but a great adventure. Probably not so much in rainy season :-)

A fabulous campsite right on the Lower Zambezi River with a clear view across to Zimbabwe on the other side. Pitches are spacious and grassy/sand with plenty of shade drom trees, fire pit, electricity points, washing up area with cold water and amazing ablutions with powerful hot water at all times, flushing toilets and super clean. Ruth and her team are extremely lovely and offer boat trips and game drives if required. We had elephant and Hippo visit the camp and watched groups of ele Cross the river frequently. We could hear the lion roar over night and slept with the sound of hippos and the African bush. We did a long day driving to the Lower Zambezi game reserve, 2 hours there and back, but game to see en route and 6 hours driving in the park which is very beautiful. Good elephant and buffalo sightings as well as lots of buck and birds. A really lovely and relaxing place to stay.

Great spot… If coming from Lusaka just make sure you don’t take the Leopard road pass, road is in bad shape, make sure you come along the T2 from Chirundu.

We had a good stay and it’s extremely wild making for a great experience…

Excellent place for a weekend or a few days on the banks of the Zambezi! USD12.50 pppn. Inside the GMA, and so elephants and hippos do wander through, important to remember when visiting the toilets at night :). Clean and very well-managed by Ruth Thompson.

Not much to add to the previous reviews.
The food prepared by Ruth is excellent, Kenzo is super friendly and will take really good care of you.

The tap water is filtered. We had no problem drinking it for 5 days.

They also have set up tents with bedding for 20$pppn.

One of our favourite places to relax and just enjoy your surroundings in 8 months of Africa.

Report Check-In

Amazing campsite!
They have spot to put your own tent, you can also rent their big tent or book a room.
Elephants are coming almost everyday, passing through the campsite. Hippos are coming out of the water during the night to eat some grass. At night you can hear a lot of animal noise such as leopards, hyenas, lions, hippos...
The place is really nice to relax, they also offer some activities like canoe, boat cruise, fishing.
Ruth and the staff are very welcoming. The food is also excellent!!
If you have to choose between all the lodges next to the river I would recommend to go to this one.

Only dowsizes: is 45 km from the NP gate, at least 1:30 hs. But the only closer camp is Mvuu (20 km) at 25 Dollars pp! Price now $10 pp.

Maybe give Ruth, the general manager, a call so she can clean and prepare the pool before you arrive. Phone/whats +269 966940242
