Something not right?

Description

Beautiful spot directly at the river. When driving northbound towards "Zona Hoteleria" turn right just before the bridge (small sign "Rio Nizuc"). There are couple of picnic spots where you can park, too. We went further away from the road to the back. At the very end you can find "Restaurant Rio Nizuc". No one bothered us, birds were singing and it's more quiet than parking at "Playa Delfines", which is 3km away from here.

So the spot is really good, but I got ripped off by corrupted federal police officers real bad there.

Police officers came by 4 times on patrol in one evening. First two times they just waved friendly. Third time at 11 pm they came to us and asked questions but left.

Another "police control" heavily knocked on our van at 1 am and didnt stop for like 15 minutes until I finally pulled down the window and asked what they wanted. They wanted bribe, thats what I thought.
I tried everything I read to deal with situations like that: broken Spanish, asked for a ticket, asked if I can pay at the police station, aked for their badge. Nothing helped. They had obviously fake tickets and told me a fake badge number when I asked for it.
They were really aggressive and told me they would use force if I wouldnt open the doors immediately. They also told me that they would arrest me and tow my car and stuff like that. Also shouted I should open up and get out of my vehicle immediately because they wanted to search it. Its really dark back there and didnt want the situation to escalate.
In the end they asked for 150 USD for parking "at the beach" and not on the parking lot next to it. They also threatened to fine me for something like "resistance to the state power" because I do not cooperate. I am still remembering the disappointed look on his face when I opened my fake wallet with 150 Pesos in it.

Not the nicest start for celebrating Christmas.

Report Check-In

Spent here a lovely day by the rio, but I can’t say the same about night since it was full of fisherman, cars and loud music..police came to check us at 2am just for be sure that everything was ok and then left and told the guys over the street to quit the loud music.

Super spot. Beautiful water and quite. Police knocked on our door at midnight, but we didn’t asnwer and they left.

We’ve returned for the second time. This time we decided to spend the night here. Quiet night is all we can say. We had a couple of fishermen sticking around until about midnight but they seemed to mind their own business.

Beautiful as described by previous overlanders. We’re parking for just a few hours but may return for overnight parking. The water here is gorgeous!

Still as described by previous visitors. We tent-camped here a few nights, always at the last spot before the gate to the restaurant. The spot was big enough for our Toyota 4Runner, 3-person tent, and two chairs. There's another similar spot next to it where you can pull into the spot. Otherwise, there are 4-5 picnic sites (with tables and benches) that you can park next to in an RV or camper. The police patroled the pinic area one night (it was Friday night), checking with us that all was ok, then left. Good spot, especially for free. Some road noise but the sunrise was lovely.
