Something not right?

Description

As you start out on Route 2 from 85, there are a few 100 kmh signs. After that there are several 60 kmh signs, then none for a while and then the “fake” sign. In other words, the posted limit is 60 until you get within about 10km to the turn to the bridge where there is an 80kmh sign. There may be a radar trap, but the speed limit seems to be accurate.

Still here today. We drove slowly and everything went well.

Report Check-In

Drove through this area at 12pm and had no problems. Didn’t see any police or speed traps.

Report Check-In

Driving by today, I was expecting some cops. Instead we had a black Nissan Altima who forced us to stop. It was in fact cartel guys who wanted to check our vehicle and cargo. We were already on the line with 911 and they didn’t bother us that much. Just a very scary experience to be followed and force to stop in the middle of nowhere by probably armed guys.

Report Check-In

Drove by here today.. police truck parked in this spot, shortly after the speed sign. Speed limit seems to be 60 here for no reason. We were doing 60 and did not get pulled over.

Watch out for corruption. We paid for it. A man from the Policia Transito stopped us for speeding. He asked us for 6000 pesos. We negotiated for a long time and ended up paying 40 dollars. Come to think of it he showed us no proof of our speeding and no paper for the fine. We warned the Guardia National when we arrived at the border.

On the way to Colombia bridge boarder crossing we got pulled over by a transito police pickup. There is a “fake/modified” road sign stating 60kph witch all normal traffic ignores. With our US plates we got pulled over close after this and they showed us their laser gun. After insisting to go to Laredo and settle this officially at the station they made us stop again shortly after driving in that direction. Suddenly they were willing to let it slip for some lunch money...
