Description

MODERATOR NOTE: No overnight camping allowed, please respect the wishes of the locals

Beautiful grass/sandbed right at the lake. At daytime some locals come to swim and or fish, after very nice sunset it's really quite! Stayed here two times and feels rally save. Enough place for a huge rig or a whole familie camping;)

FREE!!!!

There is a new looking sign saying : NO CAMPING and shows also a Camping car....
We just ignored it...the Police passed by and said nothing... so I think it is just in case they wanted to get rid of someone....

also now has no camping sign but not obvious if you enter from the second road. Slightly strange story, we parked & did not see the sign, asked in the village & people said no prob. At night we ate at la casa de Don David where we spent some time talking to David including telling him where we were. Paid the tab & left, 30 minutes later the police showed up, we had been reported by David! Why could he not have just told us that camping was no longer allowed? Certainly will not be back in his establishment. The police were fine & could not believe what he had done & told us we could stay the night no problem.

it's not permitted to camp here as shown on a sign. We decided to move on but there were more overlanders and I guess there could be no problem....I haven't seen them there in the morning from our other spot.

As described. Very nice locals washing laundry in lake most of day. No shade but swimming in lake makes up for it
Lots of dogs, chickens, pigs and horses around. Good for a night or two. We stayed one as we don’t want to intrude on the local lifestyle.

Dormimos uma noite acompanhados de mais viajantes, fazia muito calor e aproveitamos para nos banhar no lago, água limpa, lugar aparentemente tranquilo e seguro. Recomendamos.

Little soggy and most of the grass was flooded. We could heard howler monkeys in the morning. Good spot.

Beautiful sunset from this peaceful spot. We were the only ones here during the night. Felt very safe. Bathed in the lake in the morning along with some other locals. A nice boy even gave us a caracol that he found! Also a pack of roaming pigs running around. In the morning you can buy fresh tortillas at the end of the road. Next door is La Casa de Don David which serves incredible local pescado blanco and fresh margaritas which I recommend ordering from the lookout deck and getting the drinks zip lines to you via the toucan express!

One of the best spots of our journey!

After night 1 we went to visit Tikal with our van and came back here for night 2. When we tried to enter through the other entry road, a guy told us its not allowed to camp here and he had a spot where we could camp.. right! We decided just to drive to the normal entry road again and camp again for free;)

Across the road is decent wifi and great bread at El Arbol!

We camped here next to the public swimming dock. This is a very large gravel lot where locals fish, swim, bathe, do laundry, and launch boats.

The view is extrordinary, and you can swim right from your front porch. Lots of locals down enjoying the water, but everyone was friendly and welcoming.

It's also a very short walk into town to buy groceries from the local market or to buy a good cappucino from one of the two espresso shops in the village.

We felt very safe. We even got the smile and wave from the local police when they drove by on the second day.

Free.
