Hill overlooking Pátzcuaro and surrounds. Pretty rough rutted cobbled drive up as you're leaving town, it flattens out after. There's a roundabout-cum-carpark at the end of the road; I came in the late afternoon mid-week and there were plenty of cars and a uniformed guy directing parking and keeping an eye on the vehicles.
Choice of trails, either round the hill or half way round and back over the top, or alternatively just a couple of hundred metres of stairs up to the mirador. Worth going just from the view from the carpark over the lake though!
If you have a big rig you're probably best off stopping at the car park. If in a smaller van you can continue down the trail a short way and there are a few places you can pull off - this marked spot is the furthest of those I think. I asked 3 or 4 locals about security (little wary after a break-in near Zitácuaro) and one looked skeptical and said better to park in town as it's isolated up here - the others (including the parking and toilet attendants) all said fine to stay, quiet area and popular with people exercising rather than folk coming up here to party or looking for trouble. Apparently the police patrol at night, but I didn't see any - maybe they stop at the carpark. I had a peaceful night, great views and lots of stars. Good and fresh overnight! Toilets available by the roundabout for $5. Ok Telcel service.

We got there at 7:30pm after some road troubles. turns out the gate closes at 7pm and doesn't open until 7am. The town at the basin is incredibly cute! It was after dark so we ended up just grabbing the cheapest hotel we could find.
Report Check-InBeautiful scenic cobblestone drive up to the mirador, then dirt trail to the gps location. Just driving up to the mirador is 100% worth it! I did not stay overnight but it looks suitable. A few overhanging branches on the dirt section may limit tall vehicles.
There are two possible routes at the base of the hill, take the one on the left, street name Sta Maria, for a much smoother ride.
Report Check-InThanks for sharing! Great place to stay overnight even on a friday evening it was very quite.
